It's terrible to see them like this. Not because they are injured — though that fact tears at Ava's heart like the jaws of some great beast — but because they look at her through glassy eyes, silently begging for a comfort she cannot give. She wants to go to Lark, to hold them close, tend to their wounds, let them lean on her as they walk limping back home.

But she can't.

Not like this, when she can still taste their blood on the back of her tongue. The thing that won them this battle, that let her protect them, even if it cost Ava years of her carefully perfected self-control. Now she knows how it tastes, sweet and earthy and powerful, taunting her from within Lark's veins.

And despite how she craves to go to them, to check on them, she turns. Begins addressing the newcomers now stepping out of an agency van, guiding them to take away their foe.

Even if it feels like a betrayal.

It's strange to see her as a saviour. Of myself, yes, but also of our people. All our lives, it's been me in that place; behind the shield, in front of the blade, standing up and fighting until my very last breath, protecting and serving. morgan and nat will be having a baby soon

lark needs to get their shit together because apparently theyre at "not getting along" with their daughter and Also pissed at ava. ava got jealous of lark and nat because apparently she desires the LT, they got into a fight, ava calmed down and apologised, but lark's still pissed

bobby is in love with starling, who's just sitting there like a fuckin emoji 🧍‍♂️ and clearly doesn't notice

farah and merlina are having a rough patch (merlina is currently at "trying to make it work" while farah's vibing without a clue)

rebecca is a better mother than in canon (she doesn't know the detectives are her kids tho)

haley is lonely so i will be adding verda's family and tina

roberta and robert both live in the white walls room so they kinda look like theyre going insane whenever i visit them

Writing is about building a connection between writer and reader. And that's something AI will never be able to do. I recently read one of my earliest fan works that's published. It's indulgent and sweet but clumsy and overwrought. It chases the same romantic high I felt the first time I'd played the game that inspired it. I wrote it for myself, because I'd always written for myself. In twenty years of writing as an adult, I'd never before had a reader. And while it's clear from the writing that I hadn't once considered the reader, people noticed it. Fan fiction had changed something. And so my writing began to grow. I wasn't only writing for myself anymore. I had people who were curious about what I had to say. And what did I have to say anyway? What could I say? How could I connect with the person at the other end of my story intentionally? It completely transformed the way I wrote. For the better. Forever. For those out there trading their own perfectly imperfect human voice for that of a machine, I would encourage you to search for connection through your own words, your own point of view, your own ideas. Find out what you have to say and find a way to say it that tickles you. Let them connect with you, not some corporation's idea of what the median romantasy reader wants. What is fan fiction for if not for reaching through those words right into the heart of another person and giving it a good squeeze? And in return, they'll know the shape of your hand, the feel of it. Write that AU. Write that fix it. Write that rare pair. Write that missing take. Write it badly. Write it excellently. Write it yourself.
