VERY thrilled to be performing in My House's TIFF Jazz series next week! I'm playing in a bunch of fantastic shows including a tribute to HERBIE HANCOCK on Tue, a tribute to PRESTIGE ERA MILES DAVIS on Wed, and Brownman Ali's fiery latin jazz group ARECIBO on Fri!
Can't wait to share the stage again with Brown as well as the Nick Maclean Quartet rhythm section Bennett Young and Jacob Wutzke (back home from NYC!) for both tribute nights as well as the mighty Joaquin Nunez Hidalgo and Marc Decho for Arecibo. This year features Artist-In-Residence BROWNMAN ALI as the series' Artistic Director. Herbie Hancock, legendary pianist and composer, revolutionized jazz through his work with Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet and as a pioneer of post-bop, funk, and synth-driven jazz. Hailed as “one of the greatest interpreters of Miles Davis' work in Canada” (Hamilton Spectator), multi award-winning trumpet iconoclast Brownman Ali leads a tribute to a pivotal chapters in Miles'history. From 1951 to 1956, Miles would record a string of groundbreaking albums for Prestige Records, including Cookin’, Relaxin’, Workin’, and Steamin’ -- music that blended bebop virtuosity with a cool, lyrical sensibility that reshaped modern jazz.
