The development of the Hiraishin was the answer to the problem posed to me as soon as I became a shinobi: the sharingan gave its users remarkable advantages in all the ninja arts. Years of analysing their skills showed me that attempting to counter their power through natural means was fruitless. I would need to bend reality in order to overcome the challenges of fighting a skilled sharingan user. What do you do when no speed is fast enough to go against those cursed eyes? Some give up, some keep fighting even though they know they will die. I decided to redefine speed.
Speed, by definition, is the result of the distance covered in a certain amount of time. If I could find a way to change one of those variables, I could perform techniques that would be impossible to predict, even with a sharingan. Manipulating time and space is a basic principle of fuuinjutsu, so it should be possible. Time, of course, is harder to manipulate, but if I could transport myself to another dimension, and then come back to this one in a different place, that would mean covering more distance under little time; that is, increasing speed.
While the jutsu takes a negligible amount of chakra to be performed, I’ve found it is not as useful outside of battle. Of course, crossing long distances in little time can be desirable for many reasons, but the overuse of the jutsu, in instances such as casually going from one room to another, creates a side effect that is not initially obvious, but nevertheless is able to cause quite some damage to one’s mind: the loss of time.
Using the Hiraishin grants one incredible speed, but that means, necessarily, that time will be reduced in order not to break the laws of physics. Between life and death, the only precious thing all humans have in this world is time; to reduce it carelessly for convenience causes the mind to attempt to keep up the same speed — the same unnatural speed — which leads to, at best, some agitation, but at worst, it could cause one’s mind to collapse within itself because the human body has limitations, and one of them is needing time to process the external stimuli it receives just from existing. As convenient as it would be to go from point A to point B in the blink of an eye, doing so carelessly prevents one from processing not only the external stimuli from the world, but their own thoughts and feelings. Meddling with the laws of nature is risky, but feasible — as long as we keep in mind that it comes with a price.
