For some reason I don’t headcanon characters with mental disorders or gender identities nearly as much as sexuality, but if I had to think of some here’s a few that give off that vibe:

I think it’s hilarious that during Kazuma’s amnesiac era under Barok, not only is he Barok’s designated wine cleaner, but also there’s animations of Kazuma using his saber to uncork the bottle AND dodge when Barok throws his chalice. The implication here being that either Barok took the time to teach Kazuma to do this or that Barok does it so much that amnesiac Kazuma just does it??? I love their complicated and awkward yet silly dynamic.

I love how The Summer Hikaru Died uses unconventional symbols. I mean, “Hikaru” and those chest scenes and Yoshiki’s bangs are the obvious ones, but there’s more. The use of bugs is incredible, both because Yoshiki canonically loves bugs and because bugs are misunderstood and seen as gross. The moth that dies after flying around the light in episode one? Brilliant. The summer and autumn dragon flies showing how similar the two Hikaru’s are on the outside while being fundamentally different? There’s also a part where a locust is bursting out of the shell and dies and then comes back in episode 3 I thought represented Yoshiki as the locust being caught between his feelings for “Hikaru” and the danger he’s been warned he’s in, which in itself is also metaphorical. The recurring motif of sunflowers throughout this episode is also a nice touch, especially when it shows them wilting during Yoshiki’s psychotic break. The shaved ice in episode 5 and their conversation about it and how it ties to “Hikaru” vs Hikaru? Even the raw chicken and the stupid tree is symbolic!

I swear you cannot play TGAA without liking either Kazuma, Sholmes, or Barok. Kazuma has taken up more of my brain cells than I’d like to admit and I’ve only watched a streamer play it. I usually refrain from saying “glow up,” but who knew getting rid of the headband could make him look like…that. I cannot get over how fine he is. I’m not okay right now.

Why do a surprising amount of my favorite ships give off a similar vibe as AshEiji? I can’t put my finger on it.

I love the separation trope an inordinate amount and I’ve seen some pretty creative ways people get separated from their loved ones, but the cliffhanger from Link Click really made me consider how interesting of a dynamic Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi would have.

It’s like their bond goes beyond time, or their love breaks time, and I think that’s a unique and beautiful way to be separated. It’s like they break time so much that they have all these alternate versions of themselves or things get all staticky but they’d still do anything to see at least one version of themselves. They know how it’s gonna all end, but they’d risk it all for each other again. That’s like a whole new type of angst genre?

Everyone should stop kink-shaming Tadashi. Everyone likes what they likes and if it works for them, then whatever. There’s a difference between being kinky and legitimately thinking you’re a dog. Also, Tadashi is such an under-appreciated character so I need more Tadashi content.

Leopika Symbolism

Not enough people mention this, but the symbolism/parallels in Leorio in Kurapika's relationship is incredible. So you know how both of their backstories are really depressing, with how they both lost their best friends and people that they care about and felt helpless? How their main goal was inspired by their survivor's guilt?

We learn in Phantom Rouge that Kurapika left his village to find a doctor for Pairo's eyesight. Early on in HxH, we learn that Leorio tried to find a doctor for his best friend who was fatally ill.

It's just so poetic that Kurapika ended up finding a doctor in the end; it wasn't the way he intended, nor at the right time, but it was what he needed. Someone who could stop his self-destructive tendencies by healing him physically and emotionally. Kurapika found the doctor he needed, and Leorio found a new best friend (and possibly more) that this time, he had the chance to save. Leorio and Kurapika may have lost their best friends, but their journey led them to each other. And I think that's really beautiful.
