did you know red snapper can live for over 100 years…. whatre they DOING down there
I hope this doesn’t work the same way for centaurs.
Thanks! I hate it
Going fishing:
genuinely blows my fucking mind that anyone thinks that elon musk is smart in like, any capacity, let alone “the smartest man on the planet” like….. that man? the send-a-the-car-into-a-space man? the “im gonna build a stupid lil mini sub to rescue these kids instead of just letting divers do it” man? the “im not gonna have industry standard caution taping in my tesla factories because i dont like the color yellow, causing many injuries” man? that fucking man? i hate techie bros worshipping this man like hes some real life iron man shit
hes all the smugness and bad politics of iron man with none of the engineering ability
the man is a fucking idiot trust fund kiddie
the fact that pro-monarchy arguments have degenerated, over the past few centuries, from “the king rules by divine right and is accountable to nobody but god”, to “uhm the royals generate a lot of income from tourism” will never stop being extremely funny to me
the monarchs… bad. but the castles? oh, the castles are positively lush with rats… 👅

This comic is very polite this is how life should be
There’s a hidden level of brilliance in this moment:
Chef Boyardee is known today for his cheap out-of-the-can pasta, but in his native Italy he was a renowned expert chef. He was reduced to the face of microwaveable eateries after his death.
Sound like anyone else from this movie?
Chef Ettore Boiardi, known today as Chef Hector Boyardee, was a key player in keeping poverty struck families fed for a low price, before he ever came out with the canned pasta line. He would jar his sauce in milk bottles and provide bags of dry noodles for families in Cleveland, Ohio’s Little Italy sector. It was during the Depression, and pasta could be made in large portions at a low cost. This was the start of his venture.
After years of success, he eventually opened his canning facility, opened his restaurant “Il Giardino d’Italia” in New York, and helped feed the Allies during the war. Everyone always glazes over this part of his life, especially the Cleveland part. He lived here. He DIED here. He’s BURIED HERE. My mother took care of him at the nursing home she worked for in her early 20′s when he was ailing and spoke of nothing but the kindness he and his family radiated when they were there. Chef Boiardi was an immigrant with a dream and was always there to help those in need, because he knew what it was like to be in that position. Never let that go.
I had thought he was a fictionalized mascot, like Aunt Jemima or Betty Crocker, but this is really interesting.
“Proud of his Italian heritage, Boiardi sold his products under the brand name Chef Boy-Ar-Dee so that his American customers could pronounce his name properly.“
And if you have a name that isn’t “standard” in America, that is a Mood.
Oh my God! 😭 You dropped this queen 👑
To think I thought I knew what ethereal beauty was before now. Laughable.
I don’t think I have ever seen anyone as stunning as her
God.SHE'S SO BEAUTYFUL.
we know plankton and krabs have been playing poker together for 15 years
we also know this episode aired before the episode where pearl turned 16
while the non-continuity & non-chronological order of the series means that assuming that pearl was 15 in welcome to the chum bucket is a fool’s gamble - it’s reasonable enough that if there is an episode about her turning 16, her character was likely conceptualized as being 15 years old prior to that point. but either she was 15 or she was 16 in welcome to the chum bucket … and either way, that’s about as long as pearl’s been alive.
we also know that pearl is krabs’ biological daughter … through a combination of facts … and were given reason to believe that something happened to the mother of his child shortly after pearl’s birth that made him depressed. she’s not around anymore and no longer apart of their lives in any way shape or form.
we also know plankton and krabs were childhood best friends, going on to have an on-again-off-again friendship for years prior to spongebob getting a job at the krusty krab … and the two are shown to occasionally have moments where they truly, genuinely care about each other deep down, despite the rivalry …
conclusion: plankton might have started playing poker with krabs to cheer him up after the death of his wife
oh thank god i thought you were going to say plankton was pearls mom

One of my favorite subtle details in Into the Spider-Verse is that Miles' dad works for the PDNY rather than NYPD.

a singular scuit. just one.
an edible cracker with just one side. mathematically impossible and yet here I am monching on it.
‘scuit’ comes from the french word for ‘bake’, ‘cuire’ as bastardized by adoption by the brittish and a few hundred years ‘biscuit’ meant ‘twice-baked’, originally meaning items like hardtack which were double baked to dry them as a preservative measure long before things like sugar and butter were introduced. if you see a historical doccument use the word ‘biscuit’ do not be fooled to think ‘being a pirate mustve been pretty cool, they ate nothing but cookies’ - they were made of misery to last long enough to be used in museum displays or as paving stones
‘triscuit’ is toasted after the normal biscuit process, thrice baked thus the monoscuit is a cookie thats soft and chewy because it was only baked once, not twice
behold the monoscuit/scuit
Why is this called a biscuit:
when brittish colonists settled in the americas they no longer had to preserve biscuits for storage or sea voyages so instead baked them once and left them soft, often with buttermilk or whey to convert cheap staples/byproducts into filling items to bulk out the meal to make a small amount of greasy meat feed a whole family. considering hardtack biscuits were typically eaten by dipping them in grease or gravy untill they became soft enough to eat without breaking a tooth this was a pretty short leap of ‘just dont make them rock hard if im not baking for the army’ but didnt drop the name because its been used for centuries and people forgot its french for ‘twice baked’ back in the tudor era, biscuit was just a lump of cooked dough that wasnt leavened bread as far as they cared thus the buttermilk biscuit and the hardtack biscuit existed at the same time. ‘cookies’ then came to america via german and dutch immigrants as tiny cakes made with butter, sugar/molasses, and eggs before ‘tea biscuits’ as england knew them due to the new availability of cheap sugar- which is why ‘biscuit’ and ‘cookie’ are separate items in america but the same item in the UK the evolution of the biscuit has forks on its family tree
god i love history
What the actual fuck? I need this story
once upon a time in 1400s-1500s germany there was a guy named Georgius Sabellicus who described himself as “Master Georgius Sabellicus, Faustus Junior, Fountainhead of Necromancers.” this pretentious fucker got himself a doctorate and was referred to as “Doctor Faustus” or “Doctor Faustus, that eminent necromancer” whenever he came up in civil records of his time. he became world famous–or whatever was considered ‘world famous’ in 1510–for his ability to foretell the future. after he died, rumours sprang up that he had gained his powers from satan. eventually, those myths gave rise to the “Faust Chapbook,” a deeply christian story about a man, Johann Faust, who turned from god to satan and was served in his life by a demon named Mephistopheles. this legend was beautifully dramatised by Christopher Marlowe circa 1592 with his play “The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus,” and again by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1808 with his play “Faust.” both versions preserved and expanded upon the character Mephistopheles, resulting in the name entering popular culture in association with magic and tricks.
in 1939, famed poet T.S. Eliot wrote “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.” one of his poems opened with this banger of a line: “You ought to know Mr. Mistoffelees! The Original Conjuring Cat.”
in 1977, Andrew Lloyd Webber began writing a musical adaptation of Eliot’s book. this musical, “Cats,” hit broadway in 1882. The Jellicle cat Mr. Mistoffelees, still a powerful magician, featured prominently.
in 2019, well, the movie adaptation of “Cats” was released.
