Valerie: You smell like vanilla.
Jocelyn: Thanks! I use it to disguise the smell of death and decay!
Do you think Jocelyn only loves you because you're a vampire?
"I..."
"I mean..."
"Does she? She hasn't talked to me in a while, she didn't try seeing me again after Audrey was defeated. Maybe you're right, maybe she found a cuter vampire or something. I'm a mess, wouldn't be hard to believe."
@not-a-halfbreed
"No, that's-that's not true."
"I love you, Valerie, because you're kind. You're loving. You're persistent. I hurt you and you still let me back in with open arms. You have this cute little freckle right on your cheek. When you heard about how my dad feels about us, you didn't waste a second. You went straight to him and fought for us."
"Val, I love you because you're you. You just happen to have a set of fangs."
"I didn't come to find you after Audrey was defeated because the daughter of Hades and the daughter of Pain and Panic wouldn't let me. I was... am... still healing from something that happened on the Isle. They didn't want me to get hurt by pushing myself too far before I recovered."
not-a-halfbreedâ:
Jocelyn pulled away, laughing. âYou remember! Oh, God, you remember!â She hugged her tighter, then let her go. âSorry, Iâm still getting used to hugs.â She smiled and brushed some hair out of her face.
âI know itâs not going to be. But thatâs what makes it worth while, right? Going through hell to save your friends?â
âNow I do, anyways.â Vanessa smiles shakily, still sniffling and trying not to cry, hugging her again, nodding understandingly. âItâs okay. Iâm glad to see you right now.â
She sighs and smiles a bit at that last part. âI guess youâre right about that. Which meansâŠÂ youâll need someone on the inside for whatever youâre all going to do about her.â
She smooths out her clothes. âWhen things started to go south, she⊠she zapped me into this. Told me what she always did but⊠with the scepter, she means it this time. Sheâs forcing me to be her handmaiden.â
Jocelyn blinked. "She..." She felt anger bubbling up inside her, but she managed to stifle it, calming herself. "I'm so sorry. But we - the VKs - we have a plan. Well, part of a plan. Almost a plan. But we have something."
She put her hands on Vanessa's shoulders. "I missed you. A lot."
not-a-halfbreedâ:
Jocelyn felt a pang in her heart. Vanessa was crying. She reached out and wiped a stray tear from her cheek, then she forgot her inhibitions and hugged her.
âI donât know what she did to you,â she whispered, âbut Iâm here for you. Because you were my first friend. Youâre sweet, and youâre kind, and when you see someone in love you donât stop until theyâre ready to accept that itâs what theyâre feeling. You make me smile, even when Iâm not doing okay because Iâm having flashbacks. You mean everything to me.â Jocelyn squeezed her tight. âIâm sorry I wasnât here when she was hurting you. But she canât anymore. I wonât let her.â
Vanessa pauses when the other wipes away her tear, and squeaks in surprise when she hugs her, slowly reaching up to return it.
Thereâs something growing more familiar about this girl, sheâd admit that. Vanessa listens, confused⊠but she does listen, smiling slightly when she feels the other hug her tighter⊠starting to rememberâŠ
Vanessa slowly hugs her back tighter, sniffling just a bit. âThatâs not gonna be as easy as it sounds, Jocelyn.â
Jocelyn pulled away, laughing. "You remember! Oh, God, you remember!" She hugged her tighter, then let her go. "Sorry, I'm still getting used to hugs." She smiled and brushed some hair out of her face.

Closed Starter: True Friends (Jocelyn/Vanessa)
Jocelyn bid Harley and Par goodbye not long after they landed in Auradon. She had to find Vanessa and Valerie - or one of them, at least. One of them would be enough to help beat Audrey.
The halfling sprinted through the school (finally her speed was of good use), looking desperately for someone, anyone, she knew, stopping short when she saw Vanessa.
âVanessa!â Jocelyn shouted, running over. âI-I know you donât remember me, but weâre friends. Good friends. And-and Audrey cursed everyone and she sent all the villain kids back to the Isle but we havenât been there in a year, weâve been here in Auradon with all of you.â She took a breath, not realizing she hadnât breathed since she started talking.

Vanessa wipes tears from her eyes when she hears someone yell her name and looks up, startled and confused.
The confusion doesnât go away when the other starts talking and trying to explain herself. Clearing her throat, Vanessa slowly shakes her head. âI⊠Iâm sorry, I think you have me confused with someone else.â
Even though she can easily believe that Audrey did⊠whatever this girl is talking about. After everything thatâs happened recently.
Jocelyn felt a pang in her heart. Vanessa was crying. She reached out and wiped a stray tear from her cheek, then she forgot her inhibitions and hugged her.

Solo: Nothing is Fine
TRIGGER WARNING: PHYSICAL VIOLENCE/ABUSE
Jocelyn sat up abruptly, looking around. No no no no... She ran for the tv, eyes wide and wet with tears as she listened to the announcement.

"You should all know you brought this upon yourselves. All you VKs have ever done was take and destroy everything you came across-- well, no more. Iâm taking what I deserved. Youâre back where you belong and nobody here remembers you. This time, youâre not leaving. Things will finally go back to normal around here. Itâs what you deserve. Youâve taken everything from me. Well, not anymore. Gracie dear, sorry, but since youâre not a true AK, I canât erase your memories, but cheer up. On the bright side, youâre there with your precious VK."
"No... No, no, no!" Jocelyn shouted.
"Now, now," a voice said from the door, "you should know that I don't allow yelling in this house unless I'm the one doing it."
Jocelyn's heart dropped. She felt overwhelmed with fear just from hearing his voice. She slowly turned to look at her father, gulping. He was holding his whip, twirling it between his hands.
"Daddy, please..."
"Shut up."
Jocelyn silently prayed to whoever, whatever, was above. And then she tried to make a run for it.
She had to get to the front door. She didn't know if she would make it out alive if she didn't get there now. Her heart raced as she reached out and grabbed the door knob-
Jesse ran up behind her and grabbed a handful of her hair. Pain rushed through her head, a scream making its way up her throat. He threw her to the ground.
"Go to the room."
Jocelyn knew better than to argue. She also knew that she probably wouldn't make it back out of the room... but she resigned herself to her fate. She slowly walked to the room, standing still while Jesse chained her arms to the wall.
Then she took a deep breath, waiting for the first lashing.
It didn't take him long to settle back into his old rhythm, because once he'd hit her once, he just didn't stop.
Jocelyn sobbed, screaming each time the whip hit her skin. She took shallow, shaky breaths. But she felt something rising up inside her. Was it sorrow? From knowing she'd never see Valerie or Vanessa again? Knowing they didn't remember her? Knowing they never would?
"VALERIE!" she screamed as the whip hit her again, tears streaming down her cheeks. But Valerie didn't come.
"VANESSA!"
She'd barely finished screaming for her friend - her first real friend, who didn't care about where she was from or who she was related to, the person who showed her it was okay to fall in love, to care about other people - when the door flew off the hinges and into the room. Jesse froze in shock, the whip hanging limp in his hand.
"Who are you?" he asked.
The stranger didn't respond. She simply stepped up to him, and decked him in the jaw.
Jocelyn could barely see her. All she could really see was a blurry female figure.
"Van... nessa?" she asked weakly.
The girl kicked Jesse against the wall, knocking him out. Then the chains came undone. Jocelyn fell against the stranger.
"Hey, hey, look at me," the stranger said. Not Vanessa. Her voice was different. But Jocelyn tried to comply. "You're going to be fine. Come on." She picked up the halfbreed like a child, holding her gently so she wouldn't aggravate the wounds on her back. "You're going to be okay."
The last thing Jocelyn saw before she passed out was multicolored hair.
Open Starter: But I'm Going Back in My Style
Everything was different. But the more things changed, the more they stayed the same.
Vanessa was glad to be back doing what she did love, the romance column needed her and she was happy to help. But... after Hamilton, after what happened to her, she needed to get away.
And she was still scared it would happen again.
Shaking her head to clear it, she closes her locker and jumps, seeing someone behind the door. "Erm. Hello."
Jocelyn couldn't stop thinking about what her father had said. Sister. She had a sister. But he mentioned vengeance, so she couldn't still be alive.
And then, the halfling picked up a familiar scent. Vanessa's perfume!
She turned, spotting the human standing at her locker, then raced over. "Hi!"
Solo: Happy Birthday
Jocelyn knew it was a bad idea from the start.

She knew her father wasn't happy. She knew he didn't like her being with Valerie. She knew he didn't want her to be good.
But here she was, standing outside the visitation room. Jocelyn took a deep breath and walked inside.
Jesse sat on the other side of the table. He didn't even bother to look up at her from his magazine. No doubt he'd convinced one of the female guards to slip it to him.
Jocelyn sat down quietly, trying to think of what to say. She had had a plan, but walking into the room made it all disappear.
"Do you want something?" Jesse finally said, breaking Jocelyn's thoughts.
Jocelyn gulped. "Yes..." she said. "I... It's my birthday, Daddy."
Jesse simply blinked. "And?"
"And... I wanted to see you," she mumbled.
"What have I told you about that stupid mumbling?!" Jesse shouted.
Jocelyn flinched, closing her eyes, preparing for impact, but getting nothing. Right. He was handcuffed after the incident with Valerie. He couldn't reach her. She cleared her throat. "I'm sorry. I just wanted to see you, Daddy."
Jesse smirked. "Is that so?" He leaned forward. "Well I don't want to see you. You're an abomination." He stood up, holding his hands out to the guard next to him. "Take me back."
Jocelyn looked down, her eyes hot with tears. She swallowed thickly as she tried not to let any escape, but she failed. Tears flowed down the vampire's cheeks.
Jesse just laughed. "You aren't even a real vampire. You cry. You feel. Hell, you're half human." He spat at her, causing the guard to pull on his cuffs. "You can never avenge your sister, you stupid halfbreed."
Jocelyn froze. Sister? She looked up, but he was already gone. She wiped her eyes and stood to leave, but the guard at the door stopped her with a smile.
"Happy birthday," he said.
Jocelyn just nodded a thanks, and left.

Valerie nodded, trying to form the first sentence, âAfterâŠafter our last meeting I went to the rehab center and started a fight with your dad. AndâŠI punched him.â
Jocelyn blinked. Valerie... Oh god oh god oh god. She immediately reached out and began checking her for injuries, more concerned than ever. "Val, you should have told me!" When she was satisfied that Valerie was unharmed, she threw herself at her, wrapping her arms around her neck. "I'm so glad you're okay... He could have hurt you, Val..."
âWait, donât-â, she failed to stop her. The redhead reluctantly followed her inside before closing the door. She didnât think Jocelyn would leave without an explanation so she sat down, barely hoding back her tears.
âYou werenât supposed to see this,â she said. âYou wonât like youâll hear.â
Jocelyn sat next to Valerie. She reached out and took the girl's hand in hers. "Hey. Talk to me, Val. What's going on?" She was, honestly, afraid of what Valerie would say; she did say she wouldn't like it. But that didn't matter. What mattered was that Val was upset. "Whatever it is, you'll get through this. We both will... Together."
Closed Starter: Just Talk (Jocelyn/Valerie)
Jocelynâs hand hovered in front of the door. She was afraid. After⊠After Valerie had seen her scars, they hadnât spoken. Jocelyn was too scared to talk to her about it. But she knew that she had to eventually.
So there she stood, shaking in fear. The vampire eventually took a deep breath. Now or never. She knocked, forcing a small smile when it opened.
âHey⊠Can we⊠talk?â Jocelyn asked quietly. âAbout what you saw?â
@dontlxseyourfire
Valerie jumped up from her bed at the sound of her voice. Itâs been a few days since her confrontation with Jesse Black in the rehab center-prompted by the sight of Jocelynâs scars- and sheâs been isolated in her room ever since.Â
Of course, she felt awful about seemingly avoiding her girlfriend but she didnât want to be seenâŠthe way she was right now. Angry, broken and surrounded by burned notebooks. Apparantly she had pirokinesis, the ability to control fire. It showed up right after her last meeting with the vampire.Â
She sighed and hesitantly opened the door, just enough for Jocelyn to talk to her but not enough for her to see the disaster in her room.Â
âHi,â she replied, trying to smile. âYeah, totally. Wanna go to the park? I heard they have amazing, uh..trees there. The sun doesnât do us a lot of good, yâknow? I mean, you look gorgeous anyway, of course. Even with the scars, uh, I mean what scars? Forget the scars. Youâre fine-â, she started rambling, her voice getting more high pitched with every word.
Jocelyn tilted her head more and more as the redhead talked, furrowing her brows. "Val... Is something wrong? You're acting strange... Wait. Is that smoke?" She pushed on the door and took a step back in surprise. The reason for her visit was completely forgotten in that moment. She looked at Valerie with worry. "Are you okay? What's going on?"

"Hey. You. This is important. Did you EVER meet each other?" - @not-a-halfbreed
âYes and no. Mostly no. I donât know who everybody was. Grace, Eva and I met up just a few minutes ago. Wait, this is about this thing with the villain notes, right? Wait, was that you?â
@not-a-halfbreed
not-a-halfbreedâ:
âYeah. Yeah, that was me. She tried to recruit me, back before I chose good. But thatâs not important. Whatâs important is I donât know what sheâs doing anymore. She found out I had defected and has made my life hell since. You need to get together and figure out how youâre going to bring her down. Find Ruby. And anyone else you think could be useful.â
âWeâre on it. Evaâs catching Grace up on all of⊠that right now. I was going to get someone to help. Ruby, Fitzherbert right? Iâve got it. And⊠thank you. In spite of what sheâs done to you since⊠weâll fix this. I swear.â
"That's her. And it'll all be worth it in the end when something is done about her. But I should be the one thanking you. You're actually doing something about it. I'm hiding behind notes and anonymity."
