sometimes I look at a fruit or vegetable and see how optimized it is and I'm just filled with love. ppl have the idea that edible plants are "organic" or have just sprung from the earth in their form but that's not true!! they were selectively bred for thousands of years by generations upon generations of people. that is love. that is faith. when you bite into a fruit you are eating the generations of labor instilled in it to make it just right for you
this is how much our ancestors loved us. this is all their struggles and all their hopes. this is how much our ancestors loved being alive
There once was a man trying to make a point about the kitchen. "The sink!" He said "the sink is the single most important thing in the kitchen! It washes, it provides drinking water! It helps you prepare all of your meals and cleans your dishes for you after! The sink is the most important!"
"However," said a stranger coming through the crowd "you are forgetting about the countertop. It holds everything in the kitchen together. You prepare your food and serve your food ON the countertop. Even your prescious sink would have no where to be if it weren't for the countertop!"
The man was stunned. He wasn't prepared for a counterargument
I wrote this joke in a sleep deprived rage and its one of the best pieces of writing I have ever produced
its funny when edgy dudes are like “humans are unnatural. we are the only species that will consume so many resources that the land can not sustain us and still continue to reproduce. name one other species that does that” because like, off the top of my head? deer.
like … entire ECOSYSTEMS sometimes follow a boom/crash cycle where the prey species reproduce like mad and predators flourish in response until the plant food supplies are overconsumed and everybody fucking starves for a couple years and then the prey populations start growing in response to abundant foodstuffs and it happens all over again?
this winter featured what’s called an “irruption” of many migratory songbird species, in which they expand vastly beyond their normal territory in search of food, because last summer was a boom year (the pandemic interfered with pest control which led to more insects, which meant insect-eating birds had more food and thus raised more broods of offspring successfully, and then the winter weather fucked with their normal food supply so they had to travel further in search of food so birdwatchers across country found birds they’d never seen before queuing up at their feeders); this is common enough that there’s a word for it
pioneer farmers in 1800′s North America were repeatedly devastated by hordes of grasshoppers which swarmed across the Midwest eating everything green in sight, yes, exactly as described in the Little House books, and they were a persistent menace until coordinated human effort led to the extinction of that species of grasshopper
many parts of the country are dealing with incursions of feral hogs, which reproduce quickly, wreck crops, and present a danger to humans
ANYTHING pretty much will expand beyond the range of its ecological niche given the opportunity to do so, by which I mean abundant food, need-fulfilling habitat, and a comparative lack of predation pressure, although admittedly some species would take some specialized efforts to build them a habitat where they can outcompete everything to the point of fucking it up for everything else in that habitat
any invasive species is basically the result of this having happened by itself, usually with the species in question being completely unobjectionable in its original habitat, but disastrously overpowered in its new one. and then there’s places where the ecosystem as a whole just sort of rolls with it because there’s multiple species all with no off switch and they keep each other in line but if one escapes to where the others aren’t you might have a problem
humans are just really adaptive creatures with opposable thumbs and the ability to plot out absurdities like “what if we piped an entire river down the coast a few hundred miles” and “let’s make ourselves new skins for when our existing skin doesn’t do the job well enough” and a habit of moving to where the environment wasn’t expecting that

This is something we as radicals don’t talk about much but which has come up a lot in my experience:
You deserve mutual aid. You’re not too privileged for it, you’re not stealing it from people who need it more - you have a right to use community resources just as much as anyone else
I’ve seen food rot, clothes and books be forgotten in storage, because the people volunteering at or supporting these projects don’t think the resources are for them. Then those same volunteers will go out and put money they don’t have into the capitalist system to buy the resources they could’ve gotten for free
You’re thinking like a charity. You’re drawing a line between the people giving resources and the people taking them, which inevitably leads to a feeling of separation and eventually superiority, unconsciously seeing yourself as a savior coming in and helping the less fortunate. That alienates the people you’re helping from you, and results in neither side fully recognizing the other as human and the same as them
There’s a reason we say “solidarity not charity”. There’s a reason mutual aid is called mutual. Because by lifting each other up, we all become stronger. In solidarity and mutual aid, there is no separation between giver and receiver, because everyone involved is benefited by it
But that doesn’t happen if the resources aren’t used! Get out of the capitalist scarcity mindset - give freely and take freely, because by being lifted up you help us all
This is important! When I first started doing the food distributions, I’d feel really weird about taking a leftover box of produce or an extra meal home. Then my volunteers started feeling weird about taking theirs and very quickly we developed a culture of “who really deserves/needs this food”? I realized what was happening and started taking a little bit home myself, and then everyone got much more comfortable with me and people who were originally just standing in the line to get food began volunteering and doing other things to help out.
This one thing that like clicked for me since doing mutual aid is that capitalism’s overproduction is so deep. The Food Bank in my city, in order to maintain its grants at certain financial volume, ends up giving families soo much food it’s like they handed out boxes that came direct from Costco.
10 cans of peaches, 2 5lb cans of crushed tomatoes, 6 loaves of bread, a whole box of tuna packets, 8 mangoes, 6 1lb bags of rice, 10lbs of frozen chicken tenders or fajita meat. And it’s like wtf? They gave this to a family of 4??? They can’t even fit some if that in their fridges/freezers half the time so it gets donated to us.
I had my neighbors stop me before last distro to hand me all those items, plus other things. This one of many small examples, that pounded in my skull, that if I want/need it, I’m taking it.
One of my partners hit me with some wisdom a few months back, “Are you trying to build a community that you dont get to be a part of?” And that shit just echoes in my brain these days.
“Are you trying to build a community that you dont get to be a part of?”
Sharp cheddar, with its high attack and speed is ideal for a more aggressive playstyle, while dull cheddar prioritizes defense and utility, and don't be afraid to experiment with other builds, though I would leave specialized builds like gruyere for when you're more familiar with the game mechanics.
i absolutely adore how this makes absolutely no fucking sense thank you king give me nothing
~ My favorite build is swiss, high elemental defense but low physical defence with a decent attack. It works well for most encounters. ~

VACCINATE YA KIDS FFS
The other thing about measles is that it resets your body’s memory of other diseases. So all those times you’ve gotten sick? Your body’s memory cells no longer remember those illnesses, so even if you get the same type of illness again your body will react like it’s the first time you’ve been sick.
It’s so much worse than “just a disease”.
Measles does WHAT
Holy fuck
What the fuck what the fuck what the fUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK
antivaxxers also sabotaged the human lyme disease vaccine. they literally conspired online in usenet boards to go out and participate in the vaccine trials, and they all proceeded to complain of arthritis, the only symptom of lyme disease they were apparently aware of. this caused media hysteria about the vaccine. if you remember the flu vaccine hysteria around the swine flu epidemic, it was kind of like that. despite double-blind trials being unable to support their claims and instead displaying that the vaccine was safe and effective, the damage was done, and the vaccine was shelved in the USA. you can get a lyme disease vaccine in Europe, but Europe has a different strain of the bacteria that causes lyme disease.
Lyme disease can become very serious, it can infect the nervous system and cause neurological problems especially in young children who are often bitten on the head or the neck, undiagnosed it can cause chronic health issues that mimic other diseases. Without safe prophylactic measures beyond trying to minimize contact w ticks, this has driven people who have had lyme disease, have chronic effects from mass-disseminated lyme disease infection, or people who believe they have chronic lyme disease to go to quack doctors and undergo unsafe, unapproved medical treatment in an attempt to stop suffering.
This would not be happening on the scale that it is if antivaxxers didn’t straight up execute a supervillain plot to sabotage the lyme disease vaccine bc this happened the same year andrew wakefield published his fraudulent research on the MMR vaccine

these people are fucking dangerous beyond compare
Anti-vaxxers are a plague upon humanity. I work at a daycare, and we are REQUIRED by LAW to have those kids vaccinated, but somehow some parents find ways around these requirements and end up giving these preventable diseases to everyone else. I was given the mumps by one of these kids whose parents either didn’t care enough to get the kid vaccinated or fell for that Jenny McCarthy bullshit. The mumps is a miserable illness and I am damn lucky that it was a fairly minor case. But minor or not it is still beyond painful to swallow and my entire right cheek swelled up to double it’s size. It was awful. I had to go to the ER on fucking Thanksgiving Day because some parents decided they knew better than every doctor practicing medicine who urges people to vaccinate their kids. VACCINATE. YOUR. KIDS.
Anti-vaxxers would rather have dead children than vaccinate them because they believe lies. That’s what it comes down to: dead children.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
Reminder: Antivaxxers would rather have dead children than autistic children.
This whole thing started with a fear of their kids turning out… like us.
Please stop erasing us from this narrative.
truth.
they are dangerous because they are deadly AND because they are ablist. even if they never prevented a single child from being vaccinated, they would still be dangerous.
Never forget that rich white asshats decided it would be better to have dead kids than a child who was visibly different. Because I believe they don’t actually care about their child’s comfort and safety - it’s worse than that. They don’t want to deal with a real person in their home, or to be perceived as having a strange child they can’t train into perfect normalcy. The fear of potential neighbourly disapproval is stronger than their desire for a safe, healthy child.
