I love watching Star Trek episodes that are clearly reacting to politics/current events of the 1960s. They have a phenomenon I like to call "Star Trek Anxiety". They really got worried about problems that ended up not amounting to anything.
Example, last night I watched The Mark of Gideon, which I believe is a reaction to the overpopulation/baby boom.
I had fun, imagining being able to go back in time and tell them about the birth rate collapse. Cause i KNOW that would terrify them more than overpopulation.
They'd trap Kirk on some planet to single-handedly F*** all the women and repopulate the planet. And you'd better believe there would be biblical "undertones". Hell the girl alien would probably be called Eve.
I mean this with absolute sincerity, every single baby I've ever met has been smarter than A.I.
I'm sorry sir but no a "shrimp" did not in fact fry this rice. you're lumping crustaceans together in a very unhelpful and bigoted manner. our chef is a giant freshwater crayfish.
Sad that Phillip didn’t make a cameo in the newest knives out movie. BUT, lo, an angel spoke to me, and said “Benoit should have a new famous hollywood star boyfriend in every movie.” And they never explain it.
So now we need to start brainstorming boyfriends for benoit blanc. Idk why but i’m thinking Matt Damon could be funny.
I had a dream last night that they invented a new dating app, and the gimmick was that instead of matching with a person, you matched with a community. Once you got to know that community they would set you up with someone they thought was a good match.
The only issue was that Gen Z ruined it by creating increasingly niche communities, like one called "we're all crabs" where the whole group roleplayed being crabs. So no dating was actually happening. And then the app got taken down because someone made a group called "OJ Simpson Fan Club" and it got too popular.
Sometimes i see posts where people say “i could never have kids because i’d be so unserious with them, i’d take them to the park and feed ducks” and im like … YES, thats EXACTLY what you should do with kids??? I kinda think helicopter/tiger parenting ruined us because now we think parents are supposed to constantly be working their kids to death, or not letting them have fun.
But let me ask you this - when you were a kid, would you have liked it if adults took you to the park to feed ducks? You can do that, for the next generation.
(Now im not saying there arent other valid reasons the person may have for not wanting kids, but i do encourage you to look and see if your parents/parenting advice has given you an unhappy view of what it means to be a parent.)
cemeteries aren't creepy they're actually devoted to memory and rest and love and humanity
Help why did i misread cemeteries as “conservatives” and thought this was some ULTRA LEVEL SHITPOSTING to get conservatives riled up
Look at this weird leaf I found
There are twice as many stars as usual.
"Your love language is what you were deprived of as a child" actually no you're allowed to want, prefer and like things without everything tracing back to some dormant unprocessed trauma. You can just say you want to bounce on it without having to explain how as a child you always wanted - but never got - a trampoline.
I will always be a big believer in doing the inner work but the thing is, it is just that - WORK. Sometimes you put in your 8 hours and you have to step away and just be silly or, worse, admit that you’ll make mistakes because you are a human and thats okay. You cannot pathologize process program your way out of everything.
I have a hot take. I think the loneliness epidemic can be entirely blamed on the fact that we all have very weak boundaries. As society continues to erode around us, i think most of us are in the freeze response right now.
But seriously - with the rise of the cellphone, bosses started assuming they could reach you outside of working hours. With social media, now your entire life is on display for the whole world to see.
Add cancel culture to that, and you get people who are afraid to speak their minds, because suddenly your thoughts aren’t private. Or worse, someone will post something of you without permission.
Then the pandemic comes along, our whole world gets turned upside down, only to be basically gaslit (no matter what political side you’re on) by the politicians and businesses expecting us to all move on as if nothing happened?
I think people are so socially anxious and drained because we arent even used to an existence where we can say no. So it makes sense that even something as small as going to a bar with a friend is too much - how can you navigate a tricky social situation if you arent even sure what your own boundaries are? It’s a scary position to be in.
I say this with a lot of empathy, because i grew up in an abusive household where i wasnt allowed to have boundaries. The only way to get better is to practice, and sadly, yes, that means making mistakes. It means not everyone will like you. But thats okay, because you dont like everyone. And the more you’re able to say no, the more authentically you’re able to be yourself. Even if it hurts in the short term.

Monty Python works because every single one of them writes like they have ADHD except Graham Chapman. So he'd be standing there utterly confused while the four of 'em were going off about the velocity of a laden swallow.
I’ve literally been priced out of all my favorite snacks. Recession indicator.
i love this website i just feel at home here you know
I wish i had your math nerd satisfaction about numbers. But i’m so bad at math. It only started making sense in art school, when i learned that i have synesthesia for letters. For me letters and words are colorful, but numbers are like black scrawly jumbles. I literally cant see them in my head.
Anyway here’s some very satisfying words.

Loquacious

anyone else wish they would get roped into a freaky friday body swap situation just for the hope that the other person will go "oh jesus fuck how do you live like this" and instantly validate your feelings of being Strange and Built Wrong.
Yes but mine is so that men could experience what its like to be ignored, while i would go on the biggest, evilest power trip in my life.
But also i’m 90% sure that my hearing is worse than everyone elses, but not bad enough to be clinically diagnosed with anything. So i’m curious about that.
What the Star Trek fandom really needs isn’t more alternate universe/timeline movies - we need a movie that is the Wrath of Khan, but its SOLELY from engineering’s perspective.
I loved how they expanded on engineering’s job in that movie. They were feral, incredibly loyal, Scotty got to be a dad™️
You just KNOW that while Kirk and Spock were dealing with Khan one of the boys was like “i can rig together an incredibly unstable weapon using some of the warp core and a phaser” and Scotty had to be like “STOP THAT NOW LAD”
