This old pup went on a 10 mile run while his dad biked. He loves running more than just about anything, but it's getting hard on his old bones. We have to limit what he does now, because he sure won't do it himself. He came home and promptly curled up in my lap and stayed there the rest of the night. <3

I think it’s been too long since I’ve shared my perfect boys with you all!
Okay, let me explain this photo. This is not my child. I was at the rock gym on the bouldering walls for a bit last night. I was tired and sore already. I decided to go a couple more routes, but easy peasy ones I wouldn’t struggle through too much.
So I walked over to this route (the yellow one) and this little girl ran up and started climbing. She was great, nimble, fearless and she got right up there. As she was climbing her dad came over. Obviously a very fit and likely very experienced climber (I’d seen some of the routes he’d been on) I joked with him, “your daughter makes me feel pretty crap about myself” he smiled, obviously very proud of her. But he said, quite seriously, “all the kids in here make all of us feel “bad” about ourselves, but look how happy they are. They also remind us why we climb.

Yes, I am!
I am not sure how to respond to this but I guess I will share two thoughts with you.
Running is a very individual sport - unless you are in the elite of the elite, the only person most of us are competing with is ourselves. In my expierence, most runners know this, making me suspect you are not in the community.
Running at my weight is not easy. What do you weigh anon? 150? 160? I invite you to join me any time, strap on an extra 190 lbs and race me. I am pretty confident that pound for pound I could take most people, including you.

This makes me happy, thank you for your response to (insert vulgar adjectives here) anon. I often need the reminder that what we do, we do with a bit more weight on us, and most people couldn’t do what we do with the extra weight. I applaud you vigorously!!!! @fatmaninalittlesuit
I have been sick for about 6 weeks. Some terrible cold/flu/something that has been going around here. I’ve been down and out, but I’m better now. Only a lingering cough to keep me up at night.
I’m back at the rock gym, FINALLY, and excited to get going again.
Big news is Sunday my Accomplice leaves for a 350 mile snow bike race across part of the Iditarod Trail. He’ll be gone 3-5 days, depending on the conditions. I’d guess 4, with the snow we’ve had.
We just realized this will be the first time that we haven’t at least talked in the years we’ve been together. When one of us travels we talk, or at minimum text (at the beginning of our relationship) every single day. Mostly I’ll be watching his little gps tracker on the race course and hope he’s as near the front of the pack as he wants to be.
Also, home computer shot... and work, not nearly at the computer like I used to be. Makes tumblr hard. :(
In have some catching up to do, but for now, here is pure cute.
I was out of town last week. My puppy did some dog show things. And he was an absolute ROCK STAR. He’s pictured here with his Aunt Crystal who did all the showing with him. He won all the things he could win, pretty much. This is not normal for a puppy that’s only 6.5 months old. Here are some awards he got - Best Puppy in Show, Best Puppy in Specialty, Best of Winners, Winners Dog, and so many more ribbons. This might not mean much to non-dog show people (hell, I barely understand it all) But suffice it to say, it was a big damn week for him :) ) I can’t wait to have him home to cuddle on the couch and be a proper couch dog again :)
okay, I know this is stupid. But I’ve been super on point with eating this week, even while sick. But I made the mistake of looking up calories for dayquil/nyquil. And it’s nearly 100kcal per dose. As in, taking recommended doses and I’m getting an extra meal + worth of calories. And I feel like I’ll die without it. Maybe I’ll try just taking tylenol tomorrow. But damn, the liquid helps me throat so much more.
Jan Check in - Book Reading.
Jan, Day 11. I’ve finished 3 books this year, thus far. This will be my first year ever tracking the books I read. So I figured I’d put something here.
First was The Girl with all the Gifts by M.R. Carey.
It took a while for me to “get into it” and if I’d had to rate it on a scale of 1-5 it would have been a solid 3. Not much Character development, but a fresh new twist on the whole Zombie-pocolypse theme, which I enjoyed. But then the last 100 pages shifted all that for me, I couldn’t put it down and the ending was MUCH better than I’d imagined it could be. Solid 4 stars.
Next up, I’ve been watching The 100 on Netflix and really enjoying the series. Then I had a bright light pop up in my head... probably book based, right? Yup. Based off a YA series by Kass Morgan. I love me my YA books, so what the heck.
I’ve finished books 1 and 2 and heading off to read 3 & 4 next.
Short, quick reads. If you’ve seen the series, the characters are different, to a point, and that’s part of what sucks me in. “how are they going to do this, or why did they change that, and omg... that makes sense now” Normally that sort of stuff bothers me, comparing film to book. But not this time, they are both fun and well written, if a little over dramatic. Typical teenage fickleness and loves to end all loves... but that’s part and parcel to reading YA novels.
Solid 4 stars on both books. I hope the next two hold up. I’ll probably finish both of them before I finish the netflix series.

A little better this morning, every day is a little better. But this flu has beaten me down. Trying to decide if I’ll be well enough after work for Rock Gym visit... but then when I review my breakfast choices... I think, maybe I’ll give it another day. Tomorrow though, tomorrow, back to the gym.

nothing you ever read, watch, or participate in will be ideologically pure and without its problems. your quest to consume the most unproblematic material will be, in the end, fruitless. your enjoyment of anything will be sapped away, leaving you a husk starved for media.
it is okay to enjoy things that have problems to them, so long as you do it critically and with an open mind, and take care to consider others.
