Somewhere to stick: Grumblings about writing, including my neglected WIP Skyrim fic, Doom Driven. Increasingly random reblogs of things I find interesting, funny and/or important. So far I'm keeping my interest in RWBY largely to my sideblog, deadbeatbirdmom. I've also written some RWBY fics.

I am allegedly a raven, and I blame a silly Tumblr poll. Skaal is a nickname some of my mutuals have given me, although Skaaln't as one has dubbed me is more accurate (I'm 'not of the skaal' after all!). Both amuse me, and I'm fine with either.

No thanks to suspected endometriosis I'm in pain most of the time. I'm aware this gives me a short fuse, and makes me about as prickly as a grumpy hedgehog curled up into a spiky ball.

I don't want to take it out on anyone. That means I try to be increasingly careful about what I post and reblog. If it's something that makes me angry, I try to avoid it. The same goes for what makes me sad. There's a reason I rarely reblog serious things. Please give me cute cat pics and videos, I need the distraction.

I should probably minimise my time on this hellsite. Some things on here I could do without seeing at all. But there's my precious mutuals, those cat pics and videos, and the fanart of my blorbos...

Life isn't fair, the world is cruel, but that's all the more reason to try to be kind.

It's a lot healthier to go for a daily walk than to sign up for a gym membership you won't be using because you hate that kind of exercise. It's a lot healthier to eat a frozen meal than to skip a meal because you were too tired to cook something healthy. It's a lot healthier to take a quick shower than to procrastinate an elaborate routine for days. Don't aim so high that you won't be hitting anything!

fairly reliably when someone is mean and weird to you on Tumblr, you can look on their blog and all their recent posts will be about how unhappy they are in their interpersonal relationships and/or how frustrated they are that their creative venture hasn't found success. and it's like ohhhhh okay, I get it. you're clawing at other people because you're actively drowning. my sympathies, that sucks, but I'm not a lifeguard so carry on.

There are lots of reasons why fandom is "quieter" now than it used to be. Some theories are more compelling to me than others, and they all have a different scale of impact. We'll never know for sure, of course, but I like to think about it. Thus, this poll.

Hello, UK peeps - especially those of you in England. The shitty Government is trying to cut the huge NHS waiting list numbers in England not by improving secondary care resourcing, but by making it harder for patients to get a referral to consultants and other secondary care services. Except in the case of urgent referrals where cancer is suspected, GPs must now write to consultants and other secondary care providers asking for advice and guidance on the patient's care. They have always had the discretion to do this, but now it's mandatory. This means that it's likely a proportion of patients will simply be bounced back to their GPs for their care to be managed in the community, and no further investigation will be undertaken. It undermines the role of GPs as clinicians and will increase their workload at a time when they're already overworked and under-resourced. But perhaps even more worrying is that those people who already find it difficult to access timely and effective medical care - e.g. people from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled people, women and girls, LGBTQIA+ people, people living in deprived areas - are going to have yet another obstacle put in their way.

Reminder that "transwoman" without the space is a transmisogynistic dogwhistle as it's used almost exclusively by hate groups like the "gender critical" movement.

The implication of removing the space is that being trans isn't just one way a woman can be, like being tall or being brunette, but that women who are trans require a whole other noun.

Trans women, tall women, brunette women. Leave the space in; trans is an adjective and trans women are women.

I think there’s really a conversation to be had about people harassing others to the point of breaking under the guise of being “morally good” and “protecting others”. I’ve never felt protected or safe seeing people like that. I think “oh, if I step even a little out of line I’m next”.
