14. Pregnancy/Birth get ready bc im gonna cry!!!!!!!!!

Elide doesn’t want a child. She knows that she’s not going to be around as long as Lorcan will be and she knows that their child would outlast her as well. 

Lorcan, of course, respects her wishes and is taking a tonic.

But the tonic is not 100% guaranteed.

One day Elide realizes she is overdue for a bleeding. She consults a healer and learns that she’s a few weeks pregnant. 

Lorcan finds her a few hours later in their bed, her face deep in thought. As he approaches her, a new scent hits him. New, but familiar. His eyes widen. 

“Are you–”“Yes.”

He sits down next to her. “What do you want to do?” 

She looks to him with tears in her eyes. “I want to keep it,” she whispers with a small smile.

“Really?” She nods, sure of her decision. A grin breaks out on Lorcan’s face. He kisses her lips and slowly trails down to her stomach, pressing a kiss to her lower abdomen and whispering something. 

“What did you say to them?” 

“It’s a secret,” he whispers on her lips. That night he worships her for the goddess she is. She had never felt so beautiful. 

Lorcan decides a few months in that he wants to become mortal. One day he goes to a priestess and ends up going through with it. He tells Elide later that night.

“What?!”

“I want to grow old with you. I want to grow as our child grows. And when I’m a grandparent, I want to look like one.” Elide smiles with tears in her eyes. “You’re such an idiot,” she laughs softly. 

When it’s time to give birth, the only people in the room are the midwife, Elide, Lorcan, and Manon of course.

Manon coaches Elide through the whole thing while Lorcan simply holds her hand and strokes her hair. 

When their little girl is born, Lorcan sobs and Elide makes fun of how much of a softie he is. But when she holds their girl in her arms, she starts to cry a bit, too.

“What’s her name?” Manon asks.

“Marion,” Elide whispers.

Egyptian mythology | Sekhmet

In Egyptian mythology, Sekhmet spelled Sakhmet, Sekhet, or Sakhet, is a warrior goddess as well as goddess of healing. She is depicted as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to the Egyptians. It was said that her breath formed the desert. She was seen as the protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare.

Sekhmet also is a Solar deity, sometimes called the daughter of the sun god Ra and often associated with the goddesses Hathor and Bast. She bears the Solar disk and the uraeus which associates her with Wadjet and royalty. With these associations she can be construed as being a divine arbiter of the goddess Ma'at (Justice, or Order) in the Judgment Hall of Osiris, associating her with the Wadjet (later the Eye of Ra), and connecting her with Tefnut as well.

To pacify Sekhmet, festivals were celebrated at the end of battle, so that the destruction would come to an end. During an annual festival held at the beginning of the year, a festival of intoxication, the Egyptians danced and played music to soothe the wildness of the goddess and drank great quantities of wine ritually to imitate the extreme drunkenness that stopped the wrath of the goddess—when she almost destroyed humanity.
