How It Feels
Annual Firefall event in Yosemite National Park.
I was drunk out of my ass last night and the light from the lamppost hitting the trees made me cry at like 3am and I woke up with almost 20 pics like this one
i like how cutely insulting this is
LOVE when a rapper ends a line with kind of a weird phrase and i’m like okay what’s the plan here, and then they reveal that they were playing 6d linguistics chess to set up the perfect rhyme for “rodya raskolnikov” or “the treaty of nanking” or something like that. and i lose my entire mind
there’s no specific reason i enjoy my favourite themes in media
the thing about art is that sometimes you'll be moved to tears by stuff that is not very good

Okay I have things I should be seeing to but I couldn't help myself. In case you, like me, have not read all of these stories and would like to be amongst the lucky 10,000 today:
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison
The King in Yellow by Robert W Chambers*
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson**
The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe
The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs
The Most Dangerous Game by Richard O'Connell
The Nameless City by HP Lovecraft
The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula K LeGuin
There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
The Veldt by Ray Bradbury
Honorable Mention from the comments/reblogs:
All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury
*note: this is actually a collection of short stories and clocks in at about 72k words
**Originally published in the New Yorker in 1948; interestingly, the New Yorker still has this story archived on their website BEHIND A PAYWALL. CAN YOU IMAGINE.
The Tell-Tale Heart, chiefly because my 6th grade teacher, a frustrated former theater major, did a dramatic reading (different voices and everything) so effective that it really put a damper on the Halloween party. just imagine a classroom full of traumatized children exchanging candy in near silence

evangelicals being like "god made men to do This and be like This and women to do That and be like That that's just how it is" and it's just a picture of a white man and woman following traditional gender norms makes me so insane like you boring fascist fucks. god made 2 million species of beetles. god made whales, ducks, humans, and 1500 other species capable of same sex behavior. god made fish and amphibians that change sexes. god made more than 30 different intersex variations in human beings. god, in his infinite curiosity. wake up!!! fuck!!
"god wants women to have perfect no-makeup makeup looks and stay at home not talking back and upholding capitalism" god??? that guy who made lizards that shoot blood out of their eyes?? that guy who made salmon do whatever the fuck that is?? are you fucking crazy???
the finale of great comet is one of my fav closing songs in a musical ever, but it was v funny to hear it for the first time and think wow, dave malloy is a genius!* and then look up the lyrics and see they’re taken almost word for word from war & peace. even “where to now/where can i go now” at the beginning of the song, which for me perfectly captures that feeling of having a life changing experience and feeling awed, unmoored, a small part of something vast.
dostoevsky heads stay winning 🥰
*he still is imo. the unsettling chord modulation at the end, like an alien presence, God working in mysterious ways
