I think I would die for a stranger if they asked me nice enough.
raise your dead girl
raise them high
let all the sky see
and do not let it close it's eye
raise your voice girl
it will try to cover it's ears
do not back down
make them hear
raise yourself girl
from your living grave
they won't want to listen
but we won't allow them to
look away
Tiny silver birds
sit light as feathers
their creases perfect
but their bodies tethered
Prophecy inscribed
on their flimsy paper skin
Delicate wings poised to fly
their imprisonment hasn't yet sunk in
The creator will crush them
knock them silent from the sky
but how could I forget?
they were never able to
fly.
-Gum Wrapper Paper Cranes
Sitting in a circle
around a flashlight
on dirty, unfinished wood floors
swept of loose dust
are seven teenagers
huddled together
heads on shoulders and laps
leaning on backpacks
knees brought close to chests
each wearing as many clothes as possible
because it gets cold at
Night.
They are surrounded by the kind of silence
you only find deep in the forest
the kind that isn't really silence at all.
a prolonged, cold creeling.
But they form a bubble of warmth
they are laughing, talking,
ripping the wrappers off
pop tarts and granola bars and bandaids
unafraid of disturbing the same silence
that will settle slowly, in an hour or so
when they begin to drift off to sleep
one by
one.
a speeding car
is the confessional booth
of the self proclaimed
unworthy
Memories of you
are the crumpled up
receipts
at the bottom of my bag
their ink faded to illegiblity
the shops i got them from
long-closed, or in places
i will never go back to
and yet
still i ask
"what if i need these?"
A rain soaked sweatshirt
is a deeper cold
than others.
Maybe it's because
you can't take it off
it used to make you warm
and you've convinced yourself
it's a good cold.
I am stuck freezing
in my
rain soaked sweatshirt.
i don't think you need to be humanoid
your perfectly fine the way you are
unless you want to be
then we could get you a new body
don't forget about the time.
Plant on my windowsill
I'm sorry I haven't opened the shades
in the two weeks
You are dying without sunlight
because of me
Plant on my windowsill
I'm sorry I haven't gotten up to water you
in two weeks
You are dying without water
because of me
Plant on my windowsill
I'm sorry
We are dying
because of me.
delirious symphony of life
why would you betray my
monster horse
sweet lies
grow upon
the queen of love
like skin
You haven't heard from her in months
if you never heard from her again
would you still be my
best friend?
would you mourn her
or would you mourn me?
We'll all be buried
as something we're not
so just smile
and hope
for a nice
fast
rot
and I
can't wait to write to you
from beyond the grave
but they'll all be long dead
before you answer
anyways
and it makes me want to write a
book full of confessions
cause I dont want my life
to be a big fat lesson
They'd read it when I'm gone
would you read it when I'm gone?
And there I'll be
looking pretty in a coffin
my hair tied back with a
bow.
But am I really dead
when it's her they're burying
when it's all just a fucked up show.
oh
and not even you will know.
Maybe then you'll see my footprints
where I once walked the earth
but maybe you'll just sigh
"she was too young to die"
Yeah, but so was I.
