I’m reading The Psychopath Test and I’ve found SO MANY interesting bits, but I just found a reference to Olivia and it’s blowing my mind.
So, the author is investigating the case of several neurologists receiving strange, high-end produced books by an anonymous source. What could be the reason, who was behind it, etc. In this investigation, he comes across a possible ‘suspect’: Douglas Hofstadter. He talks about Hofstadter’s book (I Am a Strange Loop) that says that in 1993, when his wife died, he consoled himself with the thought that she lived on in his brain.
“I believe that there is a trace of her ‘I’, her interiority, her inner light, however you want to phrase it, that remains inside of me,” he told Scientific American in 2007. (…)
