Finally can talk about episode 9 like a free mannnn!!
the thing about media literacy is that understanding why the author chose to specify that the curtains are blue is the same skill set as understanding that the way the author characterizes all black characters as angry or all chinese characters as meek and silent is racist. it is the same skill set as being able to identify when a news source is biased or when someone is feeding you propaganda. the ability to ask "why did this person choose to present this premise in this specific way?" is a critical skill in a world full of misinformation. why are the curtains blue? maybe it's a characterization detail. maybe it's extraneous worldbuilding. why is this character written as being right all the time? maybe you're intended to disagree with them. maybe it doesn't matter. maybe you should still ask why.
I think mostly what young fandom types (and I guess younger people in general) who are very very invested in the idea that “20 is still basically a minor” need to understand is that the feeling of “I’m just a child pretending to be an adult, and everyone else around me is a REAL adult” is DEEPLY universal (and won’t stop, ever, by the way, sorry!) and also is not, like, praxis.
Believe me, I get it, but the self-infantilization needs to stop, especially when you’re trying to engage in conversations about actual children and the harms they can face. Yes, it is scary to wake up and realize you’re 22 and you still feel like you’re 15, but it happens to all of us. You’re an adult. You have to deal with it.
Like I'm nearing 40 and I don't feel significantly different as a person than I did at 20, other than being less depressed.
I know I'm different bc i respond in different ways to things now, but there's not a sense of "ah yes I am become adult" that's for fuckin sure. It's normal. It's okay. So stop infantilizing yourselves about it.
And stop infantilizing others about it, too. Yes, you're realizing at 25 that you still don't feel like an adult, but you cannot use that feeling to let yourself think of people who are younger than you as "even less of an adult than I am" when they are, in fact, adults. And you have to be very, very careful not to let that feeling convince you that it's okay for young adults to have fewer rights.
There's no age at which you magically stop being worried that you're not doing it right or well enough. Every single person alive is the oldest they've ever been and we are ALL winging it. Being scared of getting it wrong doesn't mean that you shouldn't be allowed to get it wrong.
It is universal, and it doesn't end.
i come from the 8tracks generation where you weren't allowed to just dump three and a half twee indie folk/tswift records into a fanmix and call it done. on 8tracks you had 8+ handpicked songs in rigid chronological order and an accompanying mission statement and thesis defence detailing exactly why each one applied to your derek x stiles coffee shop au AND cover/track-list art hodgepodged from stolen pinterest/tumblr aesthetic photography, and all of this was done under constant threat of death because it was the DMCA wild west and the site was in a constant state of gradual collapse.
They should block chatgpt on uni WiFi the way they used to block coolmathgames
they should make chatgpt automatically redirect to coolmathgames so you can actually fucking learn something
For everyone of us US Folks that are going to have to live through the next four years of hell, I just want to remind you that it's perfectly understandable to invest in any and every one of your offline interests going forward. Doomscrolling the next four years of our lives isn't going to help us at all, especially with TikTok essentially becoming a right-wing leaning platform overnight and Meta doing whatever they can to fall in line with Trump. Invest in yourself and your people (friends, family) by investing in your own offline interests and hobbies. Create that small little comfort zone and world that'll help you and your people get through the next four years. Buy your favorite movies (physically!), buy more books (physically!), rebuy those childhood consoles or video games you no longer have, build up a stock of LEGOs to build or collect whatever it is that'll help bring you a sense of joy and escapism. Do whatever it is you need to do to in order to create an offline world or ecosystem that makes you and your people feel a sense of safety.
I just read that Donald Trump and his circus took down a website called reproductiverights.gov
This was a website to help women learn about their reproductive rights in the US and to find health care.
This is absolutely disgusting so I’ll share in this post some resources in case you need them:
Links to websites of groups that study or provide information about contraception and birth control.
Browse resources for accessing abortion care: find providers, get information and advice, access abortion funds, legal advocacy and more.
Plan C is an information resource for self-managed, at-home abortion with pills. Learn how people in the U.S. are accessing abortion pill op
The National Abortion Federation (NAF) is the professional association of abortion providers in North America. We believe that women should
Call our legal Helpline if you or someone you know has been arrested or is being investigated for an abortion or pregnancy loss.

Hot take that might get me canceled but people who want adaptations to be word for word/shot for shot like the source material are incredibly boring. I’m sorry but it what world does that even make sense??? You cannot adapt a book and expect everything to be exactly the same. The PJO tv series for example: I understand having certain frustrations with the show, it’s definitely not perfect and deserves some criticism. But it was never going to be exactly like the books, things had to change and be excluded for it to work in a tv series format.
And with the HTTYD movie, wanting a live action adaptation that is just the animated movie but with real people is boring. Why would y’all even want that?? It’s like the Lion King “live action” movie all over again.
Y’all need to get a grip and understand that adaptations will never be a carbon copy of the source material. If you wanna experience the original work REREAD/REWATCH IT.
I honestly feel like the proliferation of LED headlights was the canary in the coalmine for the general attitude we see in the political climate these days and i'm not even remotely kidding
Very much in line with the attitude of "this choice will marginally improve the way I move through the world and make everyone else's experience SIGNIFICANTLY worse, but I don't really care, based simply on the fact that I am allowed to do it and there's nothing they can or will do to stop me" ya feel me?
like i really need people to understand that you don't have to be in fandom. if you hate the harmless ways people in fandom have fun - and make no mistake, you cannot and will not ever be able to stop them - then you can just leave! no one's forcing you to stay there! if you hate shipping and you hate cosplay and you hate dumb memes and silly AUs and you hate all those things that exist in every single fandom and have existed for years, then you can just choose to not be there. no one's forcing you to stay in fandom, you can just find the people who like the thing the same way you do and only interact with them and ignore the rest of the fandom. but people will ship, people will make memes, people will cosplay, people will draw their male blorbos in maid dresses, people will create silly lighthearted coffee shop AUs where their toxic faves are uwu cuties, people will do stuff that you will find deeply cringe, and make no mistake, no matter how much you might dislike it, they're not doing anything wrong. the world doesn't revolve around you and fandoms don't exist to solely cater to you. so if you hate it so much, just remove yourself from the equation and let other people have fun in peace.

actually i think graduates of a university should have access to the library databases forever and ever amen
seeing americans post about their election with such disregard and apathy is going to give me an aneurysm actually girl just give that vote to me then i'll do it. since you're so fucking complicated
americans be like aughhh its impossible to choose between the convicted felon and the woman
Americans be like: it's impossible to vote against the guy who wants to deregulate all environmental protections for industry and wants to turn America into a fascist state, because what if my buddies think it means that I think Netanyahu is a good guy?
Just a quick not friendly reminder: someone who has apologized for past mistakes, made amends for past actions, and clearly no longer holds past beliefs, is a far better person than one who digs up old dirt and uses a person's past that no longer exists against them.
turning feminism from a radical social movement with the capacity to create real change into a fun quirky fandom that you can buy merch for at urban outfitters is one of the worst crimes of late stage capitalism/21st century western individualism. the current state of feminism is damning evidence that there’s no way to kill an activist movement more effectively than commodifying it.
the scariest scene for me in the show is when annabeth is aggressive toward the police officer. i was so afraid for her life. because she doesn't know to be wary. because she and her dad never had that conversation. hand downs. scariest scene.
I think you should legally disclose if something is ai just like how you legally have to disclose if something is an ad
