You can always tell when it’s a man writing a description because they focus oddly on the breasts. There will always be something about breasts and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read historical or fantasy fiction and they talk about “her breasts hanging freely under her tunic” or what the fuck ever and it’s like…women don’t do that? We don’t describe ourselves by saying “I have blonde hair and blue eyes and my breasts hang freely under my tunic”. I kind of feel like we should counter by awkwardly mentioning all male character’s balls in their description. It’s kind of in the same vein.

I’m telling you elephants are chill motherfuckers. They fucking love being helpful. They once defended a man with heatstroke from a truck that came to rescue him. They knew he was sick, laying against a tree for shade. They were watching over him and petting him, and they threatened to charge the vehicle for coming towards him. Another person passed out, and elephants cried over her and buried her body in a traditional elephant funeral. (Piling branches on her). And were quite spooked when she got up later. And an elephant was helping workers to put logs in holes for a wall. On one hole, the elephant absolutely refused to set the log in, despite being punished and goaded. Turns out there was a sleeping dog in the hole.

There are so many good elephants stories. They will even help zookeepers wash other elephants– literally, a zookeeper can be like “[Name 1], please wash [Name 2]” and he will go wash that elephant correctly. Listen guys. Not only are elephants people, but they’re largely better people than us. I’m 10000% serious.

Here’s the thing.

Pronouns do not equal gender, no. A cisgender girl can still use he/him and a cisgender guy can still use she/her. And it happens all the time.

“But how can I be misgendering someone if gender doesn’t equal pronouns?”

Because those pronouns are what that person wants to be called in relation to their gender. If a nonbinary person wants to be called “she” and you call her “they” simply because she’s nonbinary, that’s still misgendering.

“Then calling people ‘they’ when you don’t know their pronouns is also misgendering!”

Simply put, no. If you don’t know someone’s gender or pronouns, you can’t really misgender them. Yes, even if someone you knew years ago is trans and you don’t know they’re trans. However, if they correct you and you continue, you are now misgendering them.

“But those pronouns are too hard, I’ll never be able to use them!”

That’s how I used to feel about neopronouns, too. Then I found this handy website that basically teaches you how to use any pronouns you plug into it. You can even make up your own with this tool! Now I’m able to use fae/faer pronouns correctly and my partner is happy.
