He’s on a bangka. Ibarra hears people yelling from behind. His heartbeat is pounding, and he looks beside him to see another man with him on the boat. He is surprised to see a familiar face, although older and covered in dirt and sweat. Elias.
“Iniligtas na ako ng Diyos sa lalong malaking panganib,” Elias tells him reassuringly.
Ibarra notices that he can’t will his body to move of his own accord, or to ask questions.
He nods. He slowly guides Elias down in the river, holding his hand to keep him steady, even though he doesn’t understand why he is doing it yet. Elias ducks his head underneath the water, and releases Ibarra’s hand. Ibarra lets go reluctantly, grasping his companion’s fingers as he fully submerges himself in the river.
Ibarra figures out that he’s hiding, and that they’re trying to stay away from danger. Why were those people after them?
He quickly flattens himself in the bangka, staying as still as possible and breathing shallowly.  The people yelling draw nearer, and he forces himself not to flinch when he hears gunshots. He doesn’t need to look over the bangka to figure out what happened. He still cannot move his body, no matter how badly he wants to check on Elias. He finds himself holding back tears.
He’ll come back, right?Â
Ibarra wakes up crying. He abruptly sits up, and he feels hot tears run down his face. He digs his palms in his eyes, willing himself to stop. It doesn’t work, and he ends up crying harder. He feels silly for letting the dream affect him so much, but it just seemed so real.
The sheets beside him shift.
“Ibarra? Bakit? What’s wrong?” Elias asks, worry evident in his voice.
“Bad dream.”
“Ah.”
Elias moves closer to him, hugging him from behind and tucking his face in Ibarra’s neck.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
Ibarra takes a deep breath and talks about his dream. Tears still cascade down his cheeks. Elias gets him a few tissues from the table beside the bed, and gently wipes them away until he completely stops crying.
“That must have been scary,” Elias mumbles against his neck.
“It was.”
“You’re safe. It’s okay, I’m here,” Elias says, hugging his boyfriend even tighter.
Ibarra says something unintelligible.
“... What was that?”
“Please, never let go. Don’t leave me,” Ibarra whispers.
“Of course I won’t. I never will.”
Ibarra almost tears up again, because Elias says it confidently, like it’s a fact. Ibarra believes him.
