when i forget to log into ao3 and i have to click proceed to see an adult fic, i actually get a kick out of it. like i am an old timey queen and my bard is apologetic: “gentle lady, dicks doth touch in this next ballad. would you prefer another?” and i give him a gesture of command like, “nay, you may proceed, minstrel. bring forth the tale of dicks”
This post is so old I almost forgot why I think “proceed with the tale of dicks” every time I click on it now
imagine how i felt the other day when i tried to get into ao3 on a new device and blithely thought, “ha, i think i saw a tumblr post about this once.”
some bouncing off the walls bullshit happening here
this one is very important to me
i can trust my heart to lead me back to myself. there is no such thing as too lost or too far or too late
i know we're not supposed to say this but i literally love being alone and going on the computer

project hail mary + book quotes 3/?
PROJECT HAIL MARY (2026) dir. Phil Lord & Christopher Miller // PROJECT HAIL MARY (2021) by Andy Weir
One of my favorite things about loving someone or developing a closeness or fondness towards someone is also loving and developing a fondness for the things they care about. When you learn to see the world in a new way, or you learn to appreciate the things you’ve previously overlooked, or they become your excuse to get into an interest you always thought was cool but thought you didn’t have time for. When a connection makes your world bigger and warmer and fuller and more beautiful.
this is from "research as a leisure activity" by celine nguyen, publs. on stubstack in 2024. it's a very good read
unfortunately i can never hate on a "power of friendship" narrative no matter how corny because the thing is it's literally real

made you some graphics to help you remember
I’m not a classicist, but I suspect one of the reasons so many of the Greek gods are portrayed so unflatteringly was less because they were seen as villains than because they represented their domains. Of course Zeus sometimes misuses his power, that’s what a king does. Of course Artemis’s wrath is wild and painful, that’s what nature can be. Of course Hades snatched away a young girl from her mother’s arms, that’s what death does. This is one of the reasons callout posts for some gods comparing them negatively to ‘nicer’ gods are kind of missing the point.
as someone who is partially a classicist, this is a better analysis of Greek mythology as a whole than 99.95% of the takes I’ve seen on here (and a substantial number of the takes I’ve seen in ~academia~)
This is what I’ve been tryna say! For example, of course Apollon can be terribly wrathful, he’s the harsh Mediterranean Sun
(classical studies bachelor) it’s also worth noting that more seasonally unstable regions like mesopotamia (unpredictable flooding) have very human, very flawed gods, while very stable regions like egypt (seasonal flooding, rarely unforseen) had very inhuman, almost perfect gods.
it’s natural events being associated with the gods and attributed to those gods’ temperaments. happy gods = calm riverways, angry gods = waterlogged floodpains. so, conversely, the gods’ “humanity” (or lack thereof) is determined by their region’s seasonality.
anyway they should invent a global food system that doesnt rely on slave labour
