My unasked for life advice is to make the weird art that would've gotten you sent to the guidance counselor. That stuff? That's soul stuff right there.
For a long time I thought I was making art for myself, when really I was making it as though some authority figure, stranger on the internet, dear friend, potential romantic partner, or generally cool person would look at it and disown me, myself. But this is exactly how you betray yourself.
No one else ever has to see it. But the process, the act of making it, there is something healing in that. You have to tell the Truth about your life, at least to yourself.
You already know how to make it. It has been made in you, been waiting this whole time. All you have to do is answer the Question.

all the food classification discourse is phenotype-based and no more sophisticated than ancient greek zoology.
"pizza is a flat bread with toppings baked on"?
let me guess: you define a man as a featherless biped, don't you plato?
no, we need the taxonomical model. food evolves and adapts and descends. it fills niches that cause it to diverge from its ancestors and converge with other, unrelated species. unlike most animals, food is capable of horizontal gene transfer, making taxonomical divisions less linear.
american pizza (Focaccius rotunda) is descended from an italian baked flatbread dish. deep dish pizza (F. r. patina) is a subspecies of american pizza which evolved in the american midwest. it is taxonomically unrelated to common species of casserole in the area (and casserole is not a taxonomic category but a polyphleytic grouping, much like fish and crabs)
"sushi is a burrito" yeah and a bat is a bird.
hotdog is actually genetically in the ramen clade for reasons scientists don't understand yet
Deep dish pizza is so similar to casseroles because both occupy the same niche and so pizza had to adapt to its environment to compensate for the extreme cold.
URGENT!
Today I learned that the Trump Administration has announced plans to effectively destroy large parts of Big Bend National Park, and the neighboring Big Bend Ranch State Park, in order to build a "Smart Wall." Customs and Border Patrol says it will be "comprised of a steel bollard wall or waterborne barrier, along with roads, detection technology, cameras and lighting and in some cases a secondary wall – creating an enforcement zone.”
This plan is both unnecessary and absurd- CBP is already all over the place (you cannot leave the area without going through at least one border patrol checkpoint) and building this monstrosity would require slamming down miles of roads through pristine desert and bringing in hundreds of laborers and heavy machines to construct an eyesore that will threaten Big Bend's fragile ecosystem for generations to come.
The Big Bend is not only worth protecting for its scenic beauty, but for the unique plant and animal life that can only be found here, its indigenous archaeological sites, its irreplaceable fossils, its deep dark skies, its locals who steward the land and rely on it for a living, and as a symbol of cooperation and peace between the US and Mexico.
It doesn't have to be this way- if you feel compelled, please sign this petition: https://www.change.org/.../stop-the-construction-of-the...

If I had a nickel for every time a poorly understood, world ending technology was recklessly created because "someone else is just going to get to it first" at the expense of the safety of communities and the environment all while stroking the messianic egos of the powerful with the promise of reshaping the global political and economic order in their image...I would have two nickels, which is not a lot, but it's still absolutely fucking stupid this keeps happening.

Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say don’t pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying “oh I shouldn’t get too many books out at once” but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject you’re interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesn’t matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever they’re due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments don’t want to fund more books if they’re not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you can’t read them all!
