British Academic Painting - A Legend of Saint Patrick (1877) by Briton Riviere - Oil on Canvas
On March 17 is an important day; a national and religious day for Irish people called St PatrickâS Day. In honor of the Saint Patrick who introduced Christianity in Ireland and accomplished many miracles; like banishing all snakes from the country.
But more than that it is a wonderful occasion for Irish people to celebrate their culture. And as I have ,through my fatherâs side, ancestors that were Irish; I am always happy to celebrate this wonderful day.Â
Happy Saint Patrickâs Day to everyone worldwide!!!
Tonalist American Landscape Drawing: âWinter Scene in Moonlightâ (1869) by Henry Farrer (1844-1903) -Â Watercolor and gouache on white wove paper (via The Met)
A photo of another tomb my parents saw at the Montparnasse cemetary. Serge Reggianiâs. A man who was a close friend and colleague of Jean Marais. A very important actor who worked on many classics of cinema and theatre; like Luchino Viscontiâs âThe Leopardâ and a new distribution of Jean Cocteau âLes Parents Terriblesâ during World War 2 and where, as Jean explained in a TV interview, Serge got into fistfights with collaborators who came to disrupt the play as it was accused of being an immoral show.
Also touching to see Stephan being buried there. So sad to hear that he killed himself back in the 1980s; at the age of 35.
A moment of thought for Stephan and Serge. Both important figures of French culture. Â
During their June 2015 trip in France, my Family visited the Montparnasse cemetery. There they took various photos of artists I love. Like Serge Gainsbourgâs tomb, resting with his parents Olga and Joseph. A tomb which had lots of fans giving an homage and a minute of silence to Serge.
A moment of thought for this great French poet and musician who passed away in March 1991. 27 years ago.
Je tâaime Serge.
Description de la chapelle du chasteau de Versailles, et des ouvrages de sculpture et de peinture (via The Met)
For all fans of âVersailles no Baraâ or the corset drama show âVersaillesâ, this historical book here, published in 1711 by AndrĂ© Felibien, is a very good dive into the history of this French Castle and of how people wrote about it at the time. Wish there could be a full scan of it, so readers could enjoy its pages.

Walt Disney Animation Studios' Steamboat Willie
So exciting to see #WaltDisney studios offering on their @youtube page Steamboat Willie, the first animated short film with sound. And the first Mickey Mouse classic. The beginning of a legendary career for that immortal mouse.
February 28 2018 Update: In reply to someoneâs message I received today, I did some research and found out that there are indeed other cartoons who have introduced, before Disney, sound like the âSong Car-a Tuneâ series by the Fleischer Brothers, or their short âCome Take a Trip in My AirBusâ (1925), and even the cartoon âDinner Timeâ. So although history makes Steamboat Willie not the first animated film with sound, it is nevertheless the first synchronized animated cartoon displayed in a wide public release and the one that launched Mickey Mouseâs career and Walt Disneyâs animation industry. Thank you to the person who wrote to me and sent me an info precision. I really appreciate it. Very kind of you.Â
Franco-Belgian Comic Book Painting - Chevalier Ardent & Gwendoline by François Cranenhals (1926-2004) - Watercolour on Paper
Superb watercolour the Belgian comic book artist François Craenhals did for his granddaughter Anne Tilleux. The characters are Gwendolynâs and Ardent from his medieval series Chevalier Ardent; series published mostly in the Journal Tintin from the 1960s till 1980s.Â

American Far West Painting - I Shall Never Forget the Sight (1918) by Newell Convers Wyeth (1882-1945) - Oil on Canvas
A photo I took in November of this superb artwork by N. C. Wyeth at the âWesternâ exhibition of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. As always, Wyeth is a supreme painter and illustrator. Capable of capturing the Far West period and the epicness of the landscape and of its people.
Rococo French painting - Mezzetin (1718-1720) by Antoine Watteau (1684-1721) - Oil on Canvas (via The Met)
Although done years before the Rococo movement ever started, Watteauâs painting displays much of the gallantry and frivolity in that art movement. Especially in the delicate colours of the current. As for this work, one can clearly identify the theatricality of the setting and subject; which is the Mezzetin, a comedia dellâarte character. Interestingly, Catherine the Great was one of the owners of that painting..Â
French film poster - lâĂternel Retour (1943) directed by by Jean Delannoy and written by Jean Cocteau.
Lot of fascination for this Jean Delannoy - Jean Cocteau production. The film that made Jean Marais and Madeleine Sologneâs worldwide stars; the supreme cinematographic rendition of Tristan and Isoldeâs myth.Â
Canadian Painting - Captive Scout (1881) by Henry Sandham (1842-1910) - Oil on Canvas
Photo I took last November of this amazing painting displayed at the Western Exhibition of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. As I found out through my reserach, Mr. Sandham was from Montreal and also founded the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
