Letās go o o o o o o o o o o
Itās important to understand, the Satanic Temple is an activist group.
They donāt worship Satan - they donāt actually believe in Satan. They call themselves Satanists because Satan is the antagonist in Christian theology.
They are actively trying to promote the separation of church and state, and prevent the US from becoming a theocracy. And their method is genius: theyāre fighting religion with religion.
Essentially, they go up against religious-based legislation by petitioning for their own religion to also be represented, since separation of church and state means all religions must be equally represented by the government, or none are. If only one is, then itās getting special privileges and thatās not allowed.
For real, I think thereās multiple places where town councils used to have some local religious leader open their public meetings with a prayer, until the local Satanic Temple volunteered. They generally sue when turned down, and then when the court tells the town you let the satanists pray or you stop having prayers at government meetings⦠they stop having prayers at government meetings.
And I have to say, as a Christian who doesnāt want the church within ten city blocks of the government, I admire their activism.
As a Christian who really would love for the church to not be the corrupt government that itās become, I think that Satanists are ironically doing Godās work
I agree with the message but?! this is tone deaf coming from one of the elitist, most prestigious fashion events in the world. you are rich to even be invited, an event where the ticket is literally $30,000ā¦. Iām gonna eat YOU
None of you people understand the actual reality of how much the ultra-rich hoard. Aoc is not even a blip on the radar of rich. Aoc grew up poor in the bronx and continued to work as a bartender while she was on the campaing trail.
Is she wealthier than the average person? Yeah. No shit sherlock. But does she qualifyā¦as RICH?? My famā¦my guyā¦.my budā¦..the answer is simply No.
Aoc wants to tax the 1%. The people who can afford to buy space programs, influence elections and send countries to war.
She is not referring toā¦likeā¦.lil nas x here. Shes referring to jeff fucking bezos.
Please learn the difference between BEING WEALTHY (aoc) and being RICH (bezos, gates, etc)
Also this is just a classic case of the left trying to eat itself.
Some of you really need to ask why youāre trying to drag one of the most progressive American politicians for this. I mean for one, if any of us could afford to go we would, letās not pretend lol. But secondly, damned if she does damned if she doesnāt right? If AOC attended and didnāt have a political statement, sheād be dragged. If she attended and did, sheād be dragged. If it came out that she had the opportunity to use her platform to make a statement at the event and she refused, sheād be dragged.
Some of you really think youāre achieving something by helping the right dunk on progressive figures for literally nothing, when AOC is the one who bothered to run for her position and put in the work and is sticking her neck out. Tumblr and Twitters love of dragging progressives who actually do the work is embarrassing. You all know rightists donāt care if you cancel them so you spend your time picking at the actions of the most progressive voices doing the work, from behind your screen.
AOC actually thought she was going to die when the Capital was stormed because sheās the figurehead of progressive politics, and you think youāre better than her because she went out and did something fun for once?
Politicians are often invited to the Met Gala. As AOC herself said, āBEFORE anybody starts wilding out - NYC elected officials are regularly invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing our cityās cultural institutions that serve the public. I was one of several in attendance.ā Anna Wintour will often invite people to the Met Gala who she thinks will make it look good, and who donāt have to pay for their ticket. AOC also made sure her hair, makeup, and dress were all done by BIPOC/women/LGBT folks. Yāall are so quick to hate on anyone, you donāt even stop to check your facts, or how many of the sources criticizing AOC are legit blogs. This is how yāall get swayed by trollbots without even knowing it. And you def donāt check yourselves and how eager you are to tear down a WOC in a position of power.
i made a 2-part uquiz calledĀ Which Shakespeare character are you? and it has 50 possible results.Ā Ā The first quiz puts you into one of 5 groups and links you to the group quiz that has 10 different characters each. Tag your results. :)
the funniest part of this is seeing people in the tags who want to get hamlet and get something from a play theyāve never read and theyāre like UMM IM EMO??? i HAVE to be HAMLET idk who Edmund even is and Iām like⦠sweetieā¦. youāre Edmundā¦.
all of your dnd character are now adventuring together as a single group. whatās that party lookin like and how fucked are they

So apparently, over the summer, Quibi (the shortest-lasting streaming service ever lmao) did a quarantine project called āHome Movie: The Princess Brideā where a bunch of celebrities recreated The Princess Bride in tiny chunks at home.
And like there was no permanent cast, all these celebrities seem to have gotten a scene or part of a scene to do (iām not sure exactly, I did not ever watch Quibi and thus havenāt seen this yet), and then they just⦠recreated it as best they could. At home. Under quarantine.
So like, you had Jennifer Garner in a blanket cape playing Princess Buttercup AND the Booing Old Woman with a crowd comprised entirely of stuffed animals:
Or Taika Waititi paying Westley off a badly-drawn Inigo on a piece of cardboard held in front of someoneās face:
And itās all just delightful.
But my absolute favorite part of this thing that Iāve sadly never seen but assume is probably absolutely hilarious and a treasure and I want to find it some day and watch the whole thing⦠is that Carey Elwes is in it.
As Prince Fucking Humperdink.

One of the weirder things to be created during the decade that was 2020!
I think you mean one of the BEST things to be created during the decade that was 2020!
I love how the only person playing their original part is Fred SavageĀ
WHY IS THIS NOT MORE POPULAR?!?!?! WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS?!?!?!
Damn they can't follow basic instructions š Why are they dancing like this is a Maroon 5 song??
i have been laughing so hard at this. like⦠???? what are they doing????
This was nonsense from start to finish lmskdkdkkgk
So apparently this is very much intentional. Black creators on TikTok have indeed gone on strike. And whether people realize it or not, this is the result.
If your head isn't in the ground, you know that Black creativity is often rebranded with a white face. That Black people tend to come up with the dances to these popular songs. But you wouldn't know that based on who actually gains something from it. Wanting credit, actually getting it? Gets you labeled entitled or mean and is like pulling teeth.
And don't even get me started on the way Black people on TikTok are swept under the rug or how these "not" racist fans get their panties in a bunch when people point out their white faves culpability in the mess.
But anyway, Black TikTok apparently noticed this trend of appropriation and theft and got fed up. So some of them banded together and promised not to create a dance to Thot Shit.
We'll see where this goes but I'm proud that they're standing up for themselves. Enough is enough. Black TikTok creatives are the backbone of that app. Credit and support them.
Please ppl with tik tok add more of theseššš i need the laugh

a lot of you hate historians and archaeologists, and i think thatās a problem
look, i fully recognize that there are reasons to be skeptical of history and archaeology. i am very on board with criticizing academia as an oppressive institution, and the way that researchers take their bigotry and bias with them to their work. i also recognize that academia does a pretty bad job of communicating what it does to the public, and thatās a part of why peopleās hostility to it is able to flourish.
but i am disturbed by the pervasive narrative in online leftist spaces that people who research the human past are ignorant and bigoted, and i think we need to do more to combat that narrative.
historiansĀ being homophobicĀ hasĀ become aĀ wholeĀ meme,Ā and it feels likeĀ people are just using historians as a homophobia scapegoat, when in reality the humanities are overwhelmingly left-leaning. people also keep blaming historians for erasing the homoeroticism ofĀ fictional literary characters, which is just⦠not what historians do. homophobic biases and erasures in the interpretation of history over the past few hundred years are a very real thingĀ thatās important to learn about, but scholars have radically shifted away from that approach in recent generations, and these memes are not helping people outside the field to understand history and reception. instead, a lot of people are coming away with the impression thatā¦
(source⦠really? nobody?)
this threadĀ gets bonus points for the comments claiming that modern historians argue about whether achilles was a top or a bottom using homophobic stereotypes, which i can only guess is a misunderstanding of the erastes/eromenos model (a relationship schema in classical greece; i think people have debated whether achilles and patroclus represent an early version of it). also a commenter claims that the movie troy invented the idea of achilles and patroclus being cousins when no, they were also cousins in lots of ancient sources.
thereāsĀ this postĀ about roman dodecahedra (link includes explanation of why the original post is misleading).
thereās thisĀ threadĀ about how some thin gold spirals from ancient denmark look exactly like materials used in gold embroidery to this day but archaeologists are stupid and donāt know that because they dont talk to embroiderers enough. in fact, the articleĀ says they were most likely used for decorating clothing, whether as a fringe, braided into hair, or embroidered. so the archaeologists in the article basically agree with the post, theyre just less certain about it, because an artifact looking similar to a modern device doesnāt necessarily mean they have identical uses.
this threadĀ has a lot of people interpreting academic nuance as erasure. the museum label literally says that this kind of statue typically depicts a married couple, giving you the factual evidence so you can interpret it. it would be false to say āthese two women are marriedā because there was no gay marriage in ancient egypt. (interpreting nuance as erasure or ignorance is a running theme here, and it points to a disconnect, a public ignorance of how history is studied, that we can very much remedy)
lots of otherĀ conspiracy theory-ishĀ stuff about ancient egypt is common in social justice communities, which egyptologists on this siteĀ have done a good job of debunking
oh, and thisĀ kind of thing has been going around. the problem with it is that there are loads of marginalized academics who research things related to their own lives, and lived experience and rigorous research are different forms of expertise that are both valuable.
so why does this matter?
none of these are isolated incidents. for everything iāve linked here, there are examples i havent linked. anti-intellectualism, especially against the humanities, is rampant lately across the political spectrum, and itās very dangerous. itās not the same as wanting to see and understand evidence for yourself, itās not the same as criticizing institutions of academic research. itās the assumption that scholars are out to get you and the perception that there is no knowledge to be gained from thorough study. that mindset is closely connected to the denial of (political, scientific, and yes historical) facts that weāve been seeing all around us in recent years.
on a personal note, so many marginalized scholars are trying to survive the dumpster fire of academia because we care that much about making sure the stories that are too often unheard donātĀ get left out of history⦠and when thatās the entire focus of my life right now, itās disheartening to see how many of my political allies are just going to assume the worst about the entire field
This siteās particular brand of anti-intellectualism is a weird hybrid of āfuck STEM, itās all just serving capitalists and wasting resources on things that either donāt matter or would be dangerous to understand, we should all just study humanitiesā and āfuck humanities academics, theyāre all stuffy old white cishet men who canāt contemplate the existence of minoritiesā, and if you put those two attitudes together what you end up with is a complete vilification of any kind of education beyond the bare minimum, which is quite clearly dangerous and fucking stupid.
As a quick add on, vilifying the Humanities is exactly what the far right wants to do, and popularizing anti-intellectualism only helps the people who are slowly destroying our chances to improve academic spaces. In quite a few countries History has become increasingly less taught in universities, and researchers are few and far between due to lack of funding. That means the little money there is will go to more popular areas, such as military history, economic history, political. But the two PhD students trying to reinterpret an old manuscript under a queer lens? Yeah, the chances of them getting any help are null. If Academia is broken, the way to fix it is by supporting studies rather than demonising entire professions. If the historians are gone, there will be neither erasure nor acknowledgement, only silence.
Great point. Iām not mad at people criticizing academia or even really historians. What worries me is that, at a time when the humanities is tragically shrinking, too many people direct their criticism toward a stereotype of entire academic fields rather than using it to uplift the people (in said fields, or trying to enter said fields) who are doing good, progressive, diverse history and are working to right the wrongs of other (especially previous) scholars, and have written interesting, accessible, public-facing things.
The death of humanities means the death of society. Philosophy, history, the arts, theater, they're critical. It's how we gain introspection, how we're able to understand ourselves and understand others. It's what bridges the gap between cultures and societies, where we can find common ground with people of different backgrounds. Our ancestors were drawing on walls of caves before they even made advanced tools.
I know it's tangentially related to this topic but it's still related and important to understanding why we have to accept that historians, archeologists, and anthropologists have to abide by certain guidelines like not placing our modern labels on history or our western labels on other cultures because that's the crux of the issue so many people have with humanities.
I have never reblogged something so fast in my life

since microplastics have now been found in plACENTASĀ allow me to reiterate:Ā
faux fur is plastic
pleather literally has plastic in the name
synthetic wool is plastic
stop implying that plastic is good for anything.
āVeganā fabrics? Yeah that shit is just plastic rebranded
not supporting the fur industry - but remember, vintage furs from thrift stores do not contribute to killing animals and are actually better for the environment than faux fur.
You can also buy fur new if you want. That is not a crime unless you are buying endangered animal furs. Itās also not really worse for the environment or the animals than buying regular meat or eggs from the grocery store, because all those animals are factory farmed, whether for fur, meat, or eggs. Factory farming isnāt solely a problem with fur, and anyway if you want to stop it then youāre better off calling or writing your politicians and getting involved with the larger movement that is trying to end big agra monopolies than only shopping at āpureā retailers. You canāt change the world with your pocketbook, thatās a lie capitalism fed us.
The best furs to buy for warmth are coyote and raccoon, anyway, not mink and such. Sheepskin is also good. Stuff like mink, ermine, and sable arenāt actually very useful in terms of keeping you warm. Vintage bear and beaver are also pretty warm. Rabbit is useless, it sheds and goes bare quickly and isnāt very warm at all. Soft though.
Wool is the only fibre in the world that keeps you warm even when the wool is wet, and silk is among the best baselayers for warmth. Linen is the coolest fibre in the world, better than cotton, has been used for centuries and is a lot less costly in effort and water to produceācotton is only cheaper artificially.
Down is the warmest and most breathable stuffing for blankets and pillows and it lasts a really long time. Cotton or wool stuffing is available also, but it doesnāt get the loft that down does, nor is it as warm (cotton isnāt warm at all). Remember that stuffing is also made of plastic!
Leather is great stuff, if you take care of it properly. It needs regular care and maintaining, but it will last a really long time if you do, and just get softer and softer over the years. And yes, you can clean it! You use something called saddle soap to clean it with. Patent leather has a plastic coating and may not even be leather these days, unfortunately. Deerskin is very nice, very soft but not very warm.
Thereās a movement I first heard about in the historical costuming community, from Pinsent Tailoring: Slow Fashion. Itās a response to fast fashion, and the goals are to have a wardrobe that is more about longevity and quality of the clothing, and also about the clothing being made so that in a hundred years, all that would be left are the metal/horn/bone/shell/wood buttons. Itās very hard to do that with modern shoe soles, but if the heel or insole of your shoe is the only plastic you leave, youāre still doing better than an outfit from Target or something. Making your own clothes is actually not extremely difficult, you can start with extremely simple things, including the Bisexual Shirt (poet shirt), a pair of comfy pajama-style pants, and so on.
Make friends with your local vultures, costume historians, and leatherworkers (which are all, sometimes, also cosplayers)! Theyāre going to have oodles of resources for where to find natural materials.
Also, support Indigenous businesses!
It was always friggin weird to me that real fur became so controversial and socially offensive among people who still eat meat, like PETA activism actually successfully changed our entire culture and tricked people into thinking that wearing an animalās skin is Exceptionally Wrong, except I guess cow leather because thatās not from like, a fox, which is like, a dog, and therefore special or something
Remember! You can buy fur and leather products from some indigenous peoples and by doing so, you will support a disadvantaged community and you can practically ensure that the products are ethically sourced and that almost none of the animal killed for your product goes to waste. It is always better to buy real fur and leather than faux or "vegan" alternatives but buying from your local tribe is going to be a great way to ethically purchase these types of products. Some even have online stores and will ship to you!
