There is one scene in Vinland Saga that reflects Artoria’s slip into Alter so well… Ambiguity below to avoid spoilers

A main character is forced for sacrifice themselves for a better world, a character that had extreme significance. They didn’t talk to anyone about it. But, it was instantly know and perceived by a vital bystander. It’s like Artoria accepting the shadow as the only way to stay in the world

The character faces their “bloodthirst” head on in this challenge. They know it probably won’t work out for them. But they do it anyways, like Artoria did

The action they take is mass murder, and Artoria turns into an agent for a mass murder

And as the character stands in the blood, amidst the corpses, they yell, jeering, to the guards with an unimaginably powerful aura -

“Step forth, for the king of Briton will personally take your head!!”

It’s despair steeled into maniac power
