It's been a few days of darker thoughts and heavier moods. He should be ok- there's no real reason! His brain just feels like it's trapped in fog and his skin feels like its pulled too tightly over his bones and he constantly feels like he could cry and-
"One more period." Ilya looks up. Shane's standing in front of his cubby, a worried frown on his face.
"Yes. I'll score a goal for you if I get reward after." The words feel like they have the wrong shape even as he pairs them with an attempt at a flirty wink.
Shane ignores him and steps closer, lifting a hand to run through Ilay's sweat damp curls.
"Twenty more minutes," as he speaks his other hand cups Ilay's cheek, who leans into the touch. "and then we will take a quick shower, say no to any interviews and go home right after."
The deep breath he took leaves him with a vulnerable shaky sound. He closes his eyes against it all.
"Where Ayna will be so happy to see us and we will go lay down in our bed with her."
A small but real smile tries to lift the corner of Ilya's mouth and he opens his eyes again.
"Probably slept all evening already." Shane makes an agreeing noise. Anya always sleeps like a log after the dog sitter walked her and a gazillion other dogs for two hours.
Shane moves the hand in Ilya's hair to his shoulder and gently jostles him. "Probably still sleep warm." Because he knows that's Ilya's favourite Anya state.
Ilya huffs out an almost smile and nods.
"Twenty more minutes, yes?" Shane asks. Mimicking Ilya's sentence structure subconciously.
Ilya nods and repeats it back. "Twenty more minutes."
Shane bends down and bumps their noses together. "Yeah?" He lowers his voice and adds "You can always fake diarrhea."
A very tired but honest grin stretches over Ilya's face. "Sexy."
Shane's eyes smile but he waits for confirmation, again.
He scans Ilya's face a moment longer but seems to decide to believe him and nods once. He seals it with a quick kiss - a very rare thing in the locker room - before sitting down beside him.
"The guys will figure out you have desperate unrequited crush on me soon."
Shane snorts and mumbles "Fuck you" with a smile as he grabs some tape and his stick.
After a few minutes Ilya moves to press his leg into Shane's. "Thank you."
Shane just nods, grabbing Ilya's stick next. Of course he knows how he likes it retaped.
