@oriun
rests my noise on you
i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict š
I remember walking down the street and seeing a sign protesting George W. Bushās war on Iraq, so I think that.
I don't know about a news story, but my first "political" memory was something about the torture memos
my first political memory is photographs from abu ghraib
wild horses on the current river by my mom
making the radical claim "11 year old children should be taught how to make extremely simple food" has resulted in people making arguments like "I wasnt allowed to plug in electronics until I was 16 and I think this is super normal actually" and "children dont know what ratios are so its unfair to expect them to be able to comprehend the idea of adding equal amounts rice and water to a rice cooker" and I gotta say originally I thought maybe I was being too judgy but now I feel very secure in my opinion because what the fuck
Forgot to close a parenthesis and now spirits enter me like a waterslide
I wish irl grinding was as fun as in videogames tbh. Like yeah i need to go to work a thousand times but after that i have enough materials to buy a house. But alas, houses arent real

Lots of drama in our household
cosmetic plastic surgeons do not give a fuck about you. their offices are like assembly lines. they do not care about you. they do not care about your feelings. they only care about how much money they can make off of your insecurities.
this especially includes so-called "gender affirming" cosmetic surgeons. "oh i found this great surgeon who affirms me" no you did not. you found a snakeoil salesman who is going to have you chasing a dragon you will never catch.
i had surgery in 2015. i saw the surgeon like a few times in the year after for follow up, but all of that was included in what i paid him up front. making sure stuff was healing properly, etc
idk, when i saw the guy for an initial consultation, i had a large burn going down my arm from an accident at work. i hadnāt seen anyone about it - literally didnāt even leave work when it happened, didnāt really have the cash to see a doctor, was going to have to take out a loan to get my surgery (insurance told me first do it then weāll reimburse, but it turned out there was a secret āno trans surgeries on this specific employers policyā after the fact)
he took the time to talk to me about it. wasnāt what i was seeing him for, not something he got paid to do, but he looked it over, gave me advice, told me what parts would scarā¦
my hormone provider/PCP recently changed - same clinic just a new guy. we talked about a recent hospital stay/wound care, and about how bad my experience at that hospital was
we had to do a blood draw, and sometimes my veins just feel like being obnoxious, so he couldnāt get all he needed on the first prick. but he *noticed* how uncomfortable i am with medical shit, noticed how much i hate needles. like, i didnāt say anything, but he offered to stop and delay one of the tests for a couple months. he picked up how fucking traumatized i was by my (non trans related) emergency surgery and hospital stay, and thought of a way to minimize my pain and discomfort
idk if iām wording that in a way that can do justice to how comfortable and safe that experience made me feel. but itās part of a pattern - i have noticed that the providers who provide me affirming care are often the most patient, kind and dedicated providers i encounter. the ones who care enough to respect my pronouns are also the ones that will respect my pain and discomfort
and i know that clinic isnāt rolling in the dough. thereās no insurance that pays for trans shit here; they are working with uninsured broke trans people in a hell hole red state. i KNOW with at least my clinic - they are doing it for love and ill fight anyone who says otherwise
idk, you realize how similar your propaganda messaging is to propaganda about abortion clinics? āthey are only doing it for moneyā āthey are making tons and tons of money off thisā āthey are secretly evil to the point where they donāt care about harming others, even to deathā when itās all kinda obviously untrue on its face?
like, put yourself into the shoes of a doctor here. is it *really* a good idea to go into gender care for the money rn considering the christofascists and just regular old fascists you are carrying water for are kinda in power for the indefinite time being?

hehehehehe * sudden moment of clarity that straightens my spine * what is this. who am I. * the clarity fades * hehehehehehe
hereās a picture of a baby cedar waxwing begging for food from a robin. neither of these species are nest parasites, so itās not possible the cedar waxwing was āadoptedā. this is essentially the bird version of tapping a random person on the shoulder at the grocery store and going āMOMā
x
I love that the robinās body language is basically WHAT THE FUCK WHOSE KID IS THIS
Robin is bathing which makeās it even funnier. More like the equivalent of a strange kid barging in while youāre taking a shower and demanding you make them mac n cheese right now
