People on this website will reblog positivity posts about Indigenous peoples and our religions and supporting our spirituality
until they find out that some of us practiced cannibalism and human sacrifice and then suddenly no one can read and everyone has places to be
Iâm speaking from the perspective of an indigenous Nahua who was born and raised in southern MĂ©xico. Iâm very familiar with the cannibalism and sacrifice practiced by my people, and know that countless other Indigenous peoples have practiced both
Colonizers boil down the incredible achievements and scientific discoveries of Mesoamerica into ~human sacrifice~ and then have the gall to lecture me about the morality of human sacrifice???
Dismissing an entire civilizations achievements because their religion included sacrifice is absolutely peak colonial mindset. You are projecting your modern western colonial morality on something you cannot, possibly comprehend and think you are being helpful and respectful and you are not
I could write a book on my ancestorâs culture of sacrifice. Please understand that the way you likely learned it in school was racist and colonialist and taught from the perspective of white people. Please understand that trying to argue about it with indigenous people or using it as a gotcha to âprove that weâre bad actuallyâ is incredibly disrespectful and ignorant.
And while we donât practice human sacrifice or cannibalism anymore, the history of it is incredibly sacred and important to us. I will absolutely defend my ancestorâs practice of cannibalism to the death from non native people
instead of being racist about it, maybe you can try picking up a history book written by an Indigenous person for once in your life
If you canât respect the ~scary~ indigenous cultures, then you have 0 respect for Indigenous peoples at all
reading a paper on quality of life among 45-to-70-year-olds with Down syndrome:
âIndividuals expressed a desire to be allowed to go to bed when they wanted to.â
Imagine.
I lived in a room and board that failed the burrito test. (âIf youâre not allowed to get up in the middle of the night to microwave a burrito, you live in an institution.â) No one stopped me from going to bed, but they did tell me I had to have my lights out by 10, and that I had to be out of the house by 10 the next morning. When I complained to my outpatient program that I needed more help than I was getting, they threatened me with board and care, where my cell phone would be taken away and I would lose contact with the outside world. My case manager sounded so damn smug, like he had caught me out, when he said, âif youâre really as helpless as you say, then you need to be in a board and care.â Like my only options were struggling to do things I couldnât do, or surrendering my life to an institution.
When I tried to talk about these things with other people, they always rationalized it away. (I told my dad once that my caseworker was reading my e-mails as I wrote them, demonstrating extreme disrespect for my privacy, and he said, âWell, sheâs probably making sure you donât use the internet to goof off.â I was 22 years old.)
People tend to mock the idea that telling an adult when to go to bed, when to eat, etc., is a human rights violation, even though they would find it outrageous and absurd if anyone came into their lives to do the same thing to them.
And this is what people seem to think when they tell disabled activists weâre just not disabled enough to understand that some people really do need to be locked up and deprived of all autonomy.
Hey can we queers please remember that the rural queer experience has unique challenges thanks
Coming out is different when you know if you come out to one person you risk the whole town knowing. Coming out is different when religion is entwined in your entire community. Being queer is different when you can't trust that your doctor or therapist will stay confidential. Being queer is different when conversion therapy is subtle and normalized. Transitioning is different when there aren't gender clinics or gender therapists for 50 miles. School is different when other kids are put at risk by being seen with you. Can we stop acting like there aren't queer people living in rural areas and start supporting them

does anyone else kind of.. enjoy spoilers ?? like they're sort of a relief because then I know whether or not something is worth investing in watching or reading or not
I'm not gonna be disappointed if it doesn't turn out how I want plus I'm not going to fast forward and skip through large parts of it to find out what happens, which I'm embarrassed that I do I just don't have the patience
Is that just a me thing or do other people do that too? Is that an adhd thing?
I just do way better watching things if I already know the entire synopsis and can predict kinda when things will happen like landmarks in a movie that help me through
Please tell me this is an actual thing and not just me
ok so recently i wanted to read a book to my niece, who just turned 7, that I thought sheâd like. but it had some scary parts in it, that might be too much for her. sheâs tough, but sheâs sensitive too, like any kid her age.
so what did i do? I spoilered it. I said âhey this kid runs into some monsters that are gonna try to eat him, and then they chase him and itâs very suspenseful. You think that would be too scary?â
She considered it. âDo they eat him in the end?â she asked.
âNo,â I said.
âThen no,â she said. And then, when we were about to hit the Big Reveal that this person who had helped him was secretly actually a man-eating monster, she lit up and was like âIS THIS WHEN IT HAPPENSâ and I was like âSHH yes!â and she was like âAHH YEAHâ and loved it.
I donât think spoilers are just for kids, though. Iâm now so Tired of conventional mediaâs endless race for The More Shocking Ending that I refuse to watch shit when I donât know how itâs going to end. Itâs not that I donât have the emotional resilience to handle unexpected things (well, sometimes I donât, honestly, and have no shame about that), itâs that if the unexpected thing is the âfuck you if you liked these characters ha ha ha!â plot twist, I just donât have the time to invest in your fictional world. If you canât respect me as an audience then I have other shit to do with my time.
Even my own writing-- I dithered a bit in my latest series, which was going to hinge on a dead character being revealed to really be alive. I did my best to avoid spoilers as I was writing the thing, but now Iâve posted it and I figured, the thing to do is just to-- tag it for the reveal. Itâs not worth trying to be coy or people wonât know whether they want to read your shit.
Most of my friends HATE spoilers (which is hard for me because I don't understand that), and sometimes they do this thing where they don't understand that I... don't, so they refuse to tell me things I want to know when I ask. Which is frustrating, because they know, and I want to know, and they want me to watch the thing, and I don't want to watch the thing unless I know, but they don't want to tell me. So I never watch the thing because I don't know what will happen. It's equally frustrating to try to get those same people to watch anything because they don't want me to tell them anything, so I have no idea how to explain why they should watch something.
99.999% of the time, I like spoilers (and the rest of the time it won't hurt me). I live to be told stories and I am the sort of person who will watch something I like 27,000 times BECAUSE I know what happens. Telling me what will happen is one of the best (and one of the ONLY) ways to entice me to watch new things.

continues to be uncomfortable every time pro-shippers frame discourse as "smart and sane" people vs "crazy and delusional" people
Gets uncomfortable when any discourse revolves around "normal" people and "deviants" "freaks" or anything else that implies normal is an inherent good.
(Seriously, by the time you're arguing about it on the internet you aren't normal anymore.)
I mean, itâs also uncomfortable when antis call us degenerates and freaks (knowing full well a lot of us are disabled, neurodivergent and/or queer) and push 15 year olds into suicide over fanfiction, but what do I know?
for real tho the people who want to police everybody elseâs fandom activities are the ones pulling this garbage and trying to use these topics and identities as leverage, thatâs literally the go to insult for discrediting the people they disagree with
like if yall are concerned with the ableism in these arguments thereâs a pretty clear trend in who does it most
i got dogpiled on twitter by pro-shippers the other day for asking someone not to mock delusional people. ableism is rampant among pro-shippers and it needs to be addressed.
^^
Ableism, especially against autistic and psychotic people, is a serious issue amount pro-shippers. Antis do it too, but as I'm a pro-shipper, I'm focused on calling out my own community.
I'm a psychotic pro-shipper who experiences delusions and it sucks to constantly get thrown under the bus by other pro-shippers, especially when they're implying that antis are delusional and therefore a danger to themselves and others OR that being delusional means that people can't actually participate in fandom safely.
I've said it before but I need sane pro-shippers to know that every single time you all call antis delusional or psychos or "clinically insane" or whatever else, psychotic pro-shippers see that and know that you aren't safe to be around and that pro-ship communities are just as hostile to us as anti communities are.
asians: pls care about racism against us
tumblr:
like literally the fact that this has 9 notes (and most other posts abt asian american rep iâve seen, rbed, or written have similar amounts), is proving my point. every time i reblog or post anything about racism agains asians, i can literally see everyone scrolling past it. not even given a performative like. are yâall consciously ignoring it or are you truly just that desensitized to racism against asians?
May I add:
Dont fetishize asians.
Dont make coronavirus jokes about asians. (Yes, itâs still happening, and itâs still a problem.)
Dont like?? Stereotype asians? Not every asian youâre going to meet is good at math or lives on a diet of rice, thatâs just rude as hell and wrong
Exactly. Speak up for everyone.
Keep the same energy for racism against all asians as we do with other races. That includes more than just east asians. Asia is more than China, Japan and Korea.
And I see y'all, youâre really selective about the shit y'all reblog from me. This should have more than one reblog.
There has been a sharp increase of AAPI hate crimes ever since the pandemic (especially in the Bay Area if you live in the United States). If youâre going to be an advocate for Asians, please donât forget to include Southeast Asians, South Asians, Western Asians, Central Asians, and our Pacific Islander cousins in your activism. As well as mixed Asians, too, especially if theyâre not white passing
i just saw someone completely seriously, without a hint of irony, refer to it as âQ-slur Eyeâ and my intestines started melting like so many Salvador DalĂ clocks
Iâve seen âdonât call the show Qu**r Eye if youâre a cishet and canât reclaim the q-slurâ so nothing surprises me anymore.
âDonât normalize this word that people fought really hard to normalize! Let it keep its oppressive power because I donât understand queer historyâ
God I literally fucking hate this rhetoric. Itâs exclusionary, gatekeepy, TERFy, and supports a totally revisionist queer history that erases so many marginalized people, especially people who are marginalized on multiple axes.
âLET IT KEEP ITS OPPRESSIVE POWER BECAUSE I DONâT UNDERSTAND QUEER HISTORYâ
Wow that really sums it up.
I lived through the âtake back the word queerâ movement, so let me further sum it up
The entire point was to strip the word of the power to hurt us. We embraced it by refusing to be offended by it. We were saying âyou canât hurt us with that word, we now feel empowered when we hear it.âÂ
During this time I saw an interview with a gay man whoâd been arrested while wearing a âWeâre Here, Weâre Queer, Get Used To Itâ t-shirt. He was put into a holding cell with other detainees who tried to verbally abuse him. They started out by calling him queer but after seeing his t-shirt, and him not reacting to that word, they started stumbling over their words trying to find a name to call him. They finally settled on repeatedly calling him a âsissyâ which, by the late 90s, had become a very out-dated slur toward queer men and was a laughable effort by these hyper-masculine and sexist bullies
When they tried to call him a queer it had no power because embracing the word, no matter who said it, had taken away that power
tl;dr We took back the word Queer with the intent of it no longer having the power to hurt us, but people now calling it the Q-slur are giving power back to the people who hate us Â
^^^^^^^^^^
Someone who hasnât heard we reclaimed it already: So youâre some kinda fucking queer?
Me, annoyed and asexual: Excuse you, I am a Nonfucking Queer.

Small Town Grocery Store Stories: LGBTQ+ friendly edition
Me: minding my own damn business in the grocery store
One of my students and a few of his teammates enter the dairy aisle.Â
My student is holding hands with one of his teammates.Â
My student: Oh hey, Professor X!
Me, who has both my student and his girlfriend in my class: âŠHello
My student, looking at his hand-holding partner: Oh! Donât worry. My girlfriend knows. Not that Iâm cheating! Iâm not cheating. Iâm not gay.
Hand Holding boy: Not that being gay is a bad thing! Itâs a good thing!
My student: Right! But no, listen. We arenât together, we just hold hands in public sometimes.
Hand Holding Boy: Especially on Friday nights. And weekends. And at away games.
My student: Because sometimes people will say shit and then we can punch them! And if the fight started because someone was being homophobic, coach wonât get mad at us.
Hand Holding Boy: Always nice to punch a homophobe. And [gesturing to another boy in the group]Â maybe theyâll think twice about saying something to [other boyâs name]Â if he ever gets a boyfriend and wants to hold his hand for real. The Gay One, resigned but smiling: Iâve decided itâs sweet and not really fucking weird.
This is what âboys will be boysâ is meant to be
This is the best thing Iâve seen in a while.
