Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
A Series of Unfortunate Events is a children's book series that was created because the author hated how children's books talk down to their audience and set out to prove that kids are actually very intelligent
12 steps program sucks big time. It sucks even more that addicts of any kind are being pushed into that program. "Realize and embrace there's a Higher power." Fuck no? Go fuck yourself.
Science all the way for me. I refuse to listen to any other nonsense.
I don’t know nothing (in terms of experience) about 12 steps program, and I’m sure it helps a lot of people. /end disclaimer
But me? Never.
I am the highest power in my life, okay (i mean it in a non-narcissistic way). There’s no destiny, universe, cat, dog, or god. Nothing. Me and my free will. That’s it.
So, yeah. *high-five* on that matter.
So fun fact the 12 step program (NA and AA) has been WIDLEY dismissed by psychology as a whole.
Part of this is because of the religious nature that this post talks about, but because the program has only a 5 - 10% success rate across the over 1.5 million members worldwide. Other than for religious reasons, the 12 step program emphasises that people are powerless to the whims of their addiction, which isn't just blatantly untrue, it's harmful. As someone who has "the addiction gene" and has been an alcoholic, it's really important that I acknowledge that addiction isn't any different to any other mental or physiological condition that I have. Sure, you should try to overcome addiction, as a depressed person should avoid self-harm, and someone with chronic pain should avoid impact sports; that is to say, you should avoid perpetuating the negative symptoms of whatever you are suffering from, but it is not some deep dark evil that you have to fight. Your illnesses, diseases, and conditions are very much a part of you, and as such, you are very capable of bettering yourself and managing the symptoms. The 12 step program to the contrary would have you believe that your illnesses, diseases, and conditions are a demonic entity that is taking hold of your soul and that if you want to get to Heaven, you must repent!!
Additionally, my personal issues with these programs centres on something important: ABSTINENCE DOESN'T FUCKING WORK. "Do nothing!" DOESN'T DO ANYTHING. You know what the best method for getting clean off heroin is? Doing heroin. I'm not joking (though I definitely am nitpicking this example). Doctors used to be able to prescribe heroin addicts with small doses of heroin so that they could ween off of the drug. The reason for this is not just patient comfort in lessening withdrawal symptoms (which could be said for the case of alcohol and prescription pain killers, though the specific person's circumstances may be more severe than others), but because heroin is a drug that makes you genuinely physically ill when you are addicted and don't take it. I've heard some recovering addicts describe this as a burning of the flesh and a mental state that makes you feel like you are actively passing away – though, take this with a grain of salt, I don't have a massive sample size. In this circumstance, I'm sure that you can understand why telling an addict to just 'uhh....fkn stop doin drugs bro haha' is damaging, unhelpful, and potentially very dangerous! Furthermore, the guilt surrounding relapse when every psychologist would tell you that relapse is just a fkn part of recovery that might happen (or might not happen) depending on your general ~everything~ is downright cruel! Guilt is an awful emotion to experience. Why would you base a whole therapy group around it????
Ugh. Anyway. Sorry for ranting. I hate the 12 step program it's bullshit.
Thinking about the whole "there is no platonic explanation for this" thing and how it doesn't account for intense platonic situationships and anyways I think we should start saying "there is no casual explanation for this" bc really what we're talking about is the way the characters in question are Obsessed with each other
what was it about your first hero dose of shrooms that helped you process so much trauma, embolden you to deepen your relationships, have the motivation to write and learn new languages, etc? is it a "if i can face my worst fears while my brain produces the worst of my imagination, i can do anything" kind of thing?
So part of it is that psylocibin increases neuroplasticity by activating your serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This basically allows you to form new connections and helps you break out of certain older patterns of thinking. Think of it like your mind is used to thinking of things a certain way and has run a groove into the dirt that you're now kind of "stuck" in, and then psychedelics t-bone you out of the groove and onto a new path. This can be immensely helpful for people with depression or PTSD who find themselves returning to the same thought cycles again and again.
The transcendence I discussed before on my post about Herzog's excerpt on ecstatic truths and the Greek "ekstatikos" as a descriptor for "stepping out of oneself" is also part of the process. The kind of out of body experience that tends to follow can be deeply disturbing as a process of depersonalization or it can allow you to look back at yourself as a whole without being saddled by the actual feeling of being yourself, and you can notice a lot of baggage and behaviors and thoughts that you may not have never noticed while actually experiencing them.
And finally, yes, part of it is exactly that. And this goes into one of the things I've talked about re: confronting your id or your shadow or whatever the fuck you wanna call it: larger trips direct your brain towards new territories, which includes places you've been avoiding going to. Trips can be really challenging in that respect, because it kind of drags your brain through the mud and makes you confront a lot of things you don't like thinking about (hence why bad trips feel like a nightmare for a lot of people, it's literally a mosaic of things you normally try to suppress or escape). A bad trip can stick with you for a long time if you weren't prepared for it, but for people who generally knew the vague shape of what to expect and were ready to try and cope with it, bad trips can often be the catalyst for longer term well-being.
For me, I had about 18 hours of nightmares involving some of my absolute worst memories (and I have been through a lot), grappling with my self-image, all while 1) twitching and jerking uncontrollably on the bathroom floor like I was having a seizure and 2) I cannot stress enough, 100% convinced I was going to die. Like without a shadow of a doubt. I was fighting to keep my fingers still enough to write a note to my loved ones. It was horrifying and afterwards so goddamn liberating that the feeling of euphoria (a common side effect) lasted for like, an unbroken month. And the things that stuck with me for a long time was 1) the traumatic memories that I always avoided just felt very... mundane to me? They were awful, but I felt no particular emotion about them beyond a vague sense of regret in the same way that I'd feel remembering a time I stubbed my toe real bad. No real pain associated anymore, just... that happened. 2) A loss of significant anxiety wrt interpersonal relationships. I love talking to strangers now. I love traveling alone, I love just doing shit for the plot. It kind of amazes to me to think any of those things ever made me nervous before. 3) Letting go of a lot of ego constructions like "I am someone who can't do X." Based on what? Why was I so convinced of a negative? What that was was really "I am someone who is scared of being perceived as bad as a X" which was stupid and pointless. (This is what led me to finally try learning Cantonese, and I WAS bad at it, and I had SO MUCH FUN with it, and my teacher really liked me even as he didn't like my pronunciation.)
That being said: Please note this is not for everybody, it can very very easily trigger psychotic episodes, it should not be used by people with heart conditions as it elevates heart rate and blood pressure, and it is not unheard of for people to try harming others or themselves during these.
[images ID: three images of a comic titled "one must imagine sisyphus happy" by druid-for-hire. it is a visual narrative beginning with someone with wrist pain (depicted by bright orange nerves) working at a drafting table. the reader is shown the same wrist as the person uses it for many everyday tasks such as carrying a grocery basket, pushing elevator buttons, typing, and doing dishes, until the pain dissolves all the panels into chaos. the person then performs several physical therapy exercises until the pain subsides. they sit back down at a desk with their laptop, sigh, and begin typing. a small spark of pain reappears. end id]
a fun little piece i made during the semester and submitted into our school comic anthology! (which you can buy at the Static Fish table at MoCCAFest in NYC ;] ). it's about artists and injury

if you have to rely on specific scripts or turns of phrase to socialise that's totally fine, but you must NOT reveal them to your friends while slightly drunk. it's like showing how the magic trick works, you can't do it in front of them afterwards
i like dogs a lot but i can never remember the differences between breeds (apart from the few types i've actually owned/interacted with). but i know people looove their dogs and love talking about their dogs, so whenever im talking to a dog owner i'll ask what breed it is, and no matter what breed they say i'll say "oh! i've heard they have a really nice nature :D" and they always go YESSS THEY'RE GREAT and start gushing about their dog and we have a nice conversation and i build social credit with this person. anyway i told my friends about this script a few weeks ago when slightly drunk and now every time we're in public together and a dog goes past they turn to me and ask "does that one have a nice nature?" im in a hell of my own making
I have properly trained my mother on how to recognise the MCR members so far she’s got looks like a corpse, awesome hair, tattoos and doing a silly pose.

are non brits aware of count binface.
to give some entirely bizarre context, nigel farage (extreme cunt) has stepped down from his position as MP for clacton (due to a scandal where he received £5 million from a crypto billionaire that could have been laundered) only to run again so that he can prove people like him. and the only person running against him is count binface. who has been a staple of british politics for many years. and now the british press is forced to interview him seriously while he sits there with his binface.
sorry. correction. laurence fox is also there
There are now 10 named candidates in this riding, including Rob Pownall, who is an anti-fox hunting independent and also usually dresses up as a fox in protests.
Edit: forgot to mention that Luke Worley, also standing as an independent, is the only one of the candidates actually from Clacton.
The guy who dresses up as a fox has now withdrawn his nomination, condemning the by-election as a farce.
