The confession wasnt planned
One day Neil and Todd had gotten into an argument about how Todd needs to take charge in his life and do what hes passionate about and how he needs to take more care of himself.
The argument had gotten heated and they were going back and forth, Todd finally shouts "Why do you care so much about me!?"
To which, Neil, without thinking, shouts in return: "Because i love you, Todd!"
The seconds that follow are complete silence.
Neil stands in shocked horror at the words that had just come out of his mouth, regret seeping through as he watches Todd turn his head away.
Todd doesnt know how to react so he turns his head to hide the blush he can feel creeping across his face. Sure he had feelings for Neil, but he didnt think the boy felt them in return.
After the silence lasts a few seconds longer its broken by Neils voice, its a sad whisper. "Im sorry" he knew he wasnt supposed to feel that way, especially not towards a boy. And he wouldnt have been shocked if Todd began to ignore him, or even tell someone and get him expelled.
Instead, upon hearing those words, Todd turns back, the most genuine smile Neil had ever seen on him.
"I didnt think you felt the same."
And the two realized that they had nothing to worry about. They felt the same. They accepted eachother.
Todd doesnt tell anyone, but however, after they discuss what they plan to do, Neil *immidiately* runs to tell Charlie the news.
