It had been a week since the start of the blackouts across the Democratic State of Grand Bavia and the Kingdom of Evroncia. All 8 planets across the 2 interstellar nations had lost all power, except for independent energy sources, long phased out from public use. The first few days of the crisis had seen little recognition until videos slipped out and went viral across the galaxy.
Early videos showed riots in both Evroncia and Bavia, buildings burning and people running in the streets in a panic. While the crisis across the sector was the same response witnessed by the galaxy was very different.
On Bavia, martial law was declared in an instant. President Jeri signing his second Presidential Decree. the Bavian Interstellar Intelligence Service and Ministry of Defence were instantly on the streets, protecting government buildings from harm. This was resisted at first, then Jeri signed his third decree, emptying the nation’s coffers to buy food from the Galactic Market to then be distributed by the Ministry of Defence. This changed the Bavian perception of the soldier from one of a fighting force to a one of assistance. It was the first time in one hundred years that a Bavian leader used to military in a humanitarian crisis during martial law. With such measures, unrest decreased, but riots still occasionally break out.
In the Kingdom however, the situation escalated much quickly than expected. Within three days of the crisis, three royal residences were burnt down. Two days after that, the Evroncian Parliament, built over one thousand five hundred years ago, was burnt down. The Royal Guard tried to put out the fire but it was no use; images of the burnt down parliament went viral across the sector, in particular an image of an Evroncian division dropping their rifles and running towards the burning parliament. The location of King Yonwa V continues the be the highest secret in the land. The Prime Minister Lesa of the Revolutionary Party had too not been seen since the crisis, last seen on the faraway Colony of Poncaro’s Retreat.
Suddenly, exactly seven days and twenty one hours after the crisis began, the lights on the Bavian capital returned. President Jeri’s face instantly appeared on all holo-visions turned on as he said one small statement.
“People of the Democratic State, people of the Kingdom of Evroncia.
We do not know why this has happened, but we know what it has cost. Our stability. Whoever has done this has done it to destabilise my provisional government and your Kingdom. We cannot afford division, we need unity. That is why I am formally declaring a State of Emergency here in Grand Bavia and on behalf of His Majesty King Yonwa in the Kingdom also. We will find these perpetrators, no matter the cost.”
While the people of Grand Bavia watched his speech, Evroncia continued to burn, a series of civil unrest not seen in a millennium.
