My shitty tech opinion is that they should make wireless headphones with fucken SD cards in them already.
Why the fuck am I buying kiddo an mp3 player from Kmart so we can stick an SD card in there to Bluetooth to his speakers (so he can stay off his phone when he is trying to sleep) instead of just putting the SD card IN the speakers?
Why does a second device need to be involved? You can get 1tb micro SD cards. That's 200k songs! let me put the music in the headphones!!!!!
read a study recently that anonymously surveyed young straight and bisexual men in the US and canada (large sample size as i recall) and found that over 95% of them admitted to coercing women into having sex with them when they didn't want to
the average man had used nine different strategies to coerce women to have sex with him
i was already pretty pessimistic about men but. wow
Pet peeve:
Linguists who claim that no words are truly "untranslatable", then launches into a 5000 word explanation of a concept that doesn't exist in the target language.
Look, I get that sometimes you need to modify existing concepts with an adjective/adverb or preposition, so I'll give you a few world. But it you need more than five words to "translate" a foreign one, you haven't translated it, you have explained or defined it, and the word is untranslatable.
For example, using some of the most common language examples from Swedish to English: the swedish word "mångata" is easily translated as "moonlight shining on still-ish water". "Fika", on the other and, could just be translated as "coffee break", but then you'd lose 98% of the context: it doesn't have to have coffee, it could be a lighter meal, like a snack, it doesn't have to be a break, it can happen at home, it's usually a very communal activity, but it doesn't have to be, but it if it is, it kind of requires you to sit down together, however briefly. The archetype has baked goods, like pastries or open face sandwiches, but I have friends who refer to their mid-morning rice cakes as fika because she can't have gluten. You see the issue. That wasn't a translation.
Thank u for coming to my TED talk.
much has been written about the idea of the Madonna-whore complex, but in the interest of maximum clarity for a new generation, i think we should rename it to Disposable Sex Object vs. Fuckable Household Appliance Complex
I love this text post so I drew it
the queer community NEEDS to care about those of us that are living in deeply conservative areas
they did not get to choose where they grew up and they are living under the harshest oppression
we cant punish them for where they live, we need to be working to help them as well
and that includes building online communities and resources that they can access and where they can feel safe
Okay, I am an asexual lesbian currently living in Russia. I've been inhibiting queer English-speaking online spaces for more than 7 years and boy does it feel incredibly weird sometimes. Our queer community is HUGE and incredibly diverse, we have our own culture and history spanning centuries, but to the outside world we're practically non-existent. Due to the current laws we can't even talk about our identities and experiences, tumblr is the only place where I feel relatively safe, only because nobody gives a shit about tumblr.
The experiences of queer people in conservative spaces are wildly misunderstood by people who have not lived in them. Little queer communities are often formed naturally, because queer people tend to gravitate towards each other almost instinctively, united by the shared sense of alienation and loneliness. That has been my experience, but I've been incredibly lucky to be surrounded by fellow queer people for almost my entire life.
I lucked out with my parents as well. My mom, step-dad and my father are all accepting and supportive. I feel like the assumed reality of most "queer people in conservative spaces" is that their families are the problem, or at least a huge part of it. That has not been the case for most of my friends. Sure, some of them have awful abusive parents, some are still in the closet, some had issues that have been sorted out by now, but A LOT of Russian parents are supportive of their queer kids. The bigger problem is the law never being on our side, the living in a state of neverending fear and stress, the constant looking over your shoulder.
I knew a girl in my year in high school who had two moms. I don't know what their situation was, but I know there are are a lot of same-sex parents in Russia, even though it is incredibly illegal and they are always at a huge risk of losing their child.
I know a few trans people as well, a couple of them have transitioned, although I genuinely have no idea how they even accomplished that. Their very existence is at a constant risk. They don't get talked about very often even by our own community.
And of course a lot of people, including myself, desperately want to move somewhere safer. Looking at photos of irl pride events genuinely makes me cry every single time. But of course it's not physically possible for everyone to move wherever they want to. You know how migration policies are like. The class inequality in this country is genuinely insane, the vast majority of people are somewhere between "dirt poor" and "struggling lower middle class". In a country where being queer is like this👌close to being fully illegal, of course queer folks specifically are at a huge risk of unemployment and homelessness. My parents knew a gay man who was fired explicitly because his employer found out about his sexuality. More recently my friend told me about a fight her gay coworker had with his boss, during which a friend of said boss shouted out "what were you thinking, hiring a f*g in the first place?!" He's a nail tech, by the way.
So what we're left with at the end of the day are a lot of queer folks, who don't have the opportunity to move, who are at a constant risk irl, who are prohibited to exist online by their own government. It makes me sick.
And I understand why nobody wants to talk about it or to hear me talking about it. We're The Bad Place. The oppressive imperialist force in so many ways. I get it, that makes me feel sick too. But the queer voices need to be heard. Just like the queer voices of the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the American South, the rest of the Eastern Europe and so on and so forth deserve and need to be heard.
French lawmakers back police shootings law dubbed 'licence to kill' by critics
Jul. 8
Proposed law would presume police acted lawfully in shootings
Lower house of parliament backs law, upper house still to vote
Interior minister says law will protect police facing danger
Critics say proposal would give police impunity for killings
Killings by police with firearms have been rising in France
The number of fatal shootings by police in France is among the highest in Europe and rising. The agencies that carry out investigations of police in France, the IGPN and IGGN, recorded 69 people killed by police or gendarmerie officers in 2024, compared with 49 in 2023 and 50 in 2022. Proponents of the law, including interior minister Laurent Nunez, say it is an important measure to protect police officers who work in dangerous conditions. Critics say it will lead to more killings and deny justice to victims' families. Marie-Laure Geoffray of Amnesty International said that the law would slow down investigations into police violence and that the burden of proof would fall on the families of victims. Defending the law, Nunez told parliament "it does not lead to penal irresponsibility — at any moment, if the circumstances are reunited, any prosecutor can reverse this presumption".

I miss the days when, no matter how slow your internet was, if you paused any video and let it buffer long enough, you could watch it uninterrupted
If you use Firefox, you can go to the about:config page, search for "media.mediasource.enabled" and double click on it to set it to false. After you restart Firefox, all youtube videos will load entirely even when paused! This also affects other streaming websites :)
There's more to do actually, now
go to About:config find media.mediasource.enabled and toggle it to false find media.cache_readahead_limit and change it to 9999 find media.cache_resume_threshold and change it to 9999
additionally if you'd prefer mp4 to webm
also in about:config, find: media.encoder.webm.enabled media.mediasource.webm.audio.enabled media.mediasource.webm.enabled media.webm.enabled and toggle them all to false
note! this will limit video to 1080p
and use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dont-accept-webp/ to kill WebP Fuck Google
We jailbreaking browsers now lmao
