I am SO FUCKING DONE with the German pre-election for eurovision.

The final is on Saturday. Yesterday they suddenly put out a press statement stating that there will be a "pre-final" in the final. They said not a single fucking word about that in the first 3 shows.

So now, the decision isn't up to the televoting, nah-uh, the jury will decide on 5 acts (out of 9) and then the viewers can vote for/between these 5 acts.

This is not what it sounded like in the 3 shows that have already happened. All they said in those was that the decision in the final is done via televoting/by the public.

And, at least to me, this did not sound like there'd still be a jury-voting involved.

Couple more things that could be helpful to know about the situation as a whole:

this whole pre-election concept is new the way it's done this year. Instead of just broadcasting the "final" there are 4 shows: 1. Pre-show, 2. Pre-show, semi-final and the final

The jury consists of Stefan Raab + two members that stay the same through all shows (Elton & Yvonne Catterfeld) and then a guest-juror who changed in each show

—> Fun fact: suddenly, Elton has a private appointment (I hope he is okay!) on the day of the final and can't participate. He will be replaced by Conchita Wurst (Austria 2014).

To be honest, I do not feel like the opinions of the other 3 jury members matter much. If Stefan Raab wants an act in the next show — they will be there, if he dislikes them — they won't.

In the semi-final From Fall to Spring participated (they already tried their luck last year I think...? Or the year prior): They were SUPER popular with the public – at least from what I saw online. Through the entire evening it became very clear that Raab did not want them in the final, and definitely not in the Eurovision final. He kept stating how they (he) are looking for a song that is ehh suitable to represent Germany and how FFTS's music is not popular outside of Germany (they are a fucking post-hardcore band, where does Raab live that this isn't popular outside of Germany). There were some more things Raab said that made it very obvious that they would not make it to the finals and surprise - they didn't. Right after the show a shit storm broke loose online, flooding the comments with remarks about how disappointed everyone was about FFTS not making the cut and how the jury just doesn't want to send something that isn't mainstream and the usual pop-shit we send each year (2023 with LotL aside, obviously). In short, the public was not happy about this decision.

Like I said, there are 9 acts in the final this Saturday. One of those bands is Feuerschwanz. They are a medieval rock/metal band and somewhat well known (in the scene they are one of the most famous bands!). I've loved this band for close to 8 years by now so I might be biased BUT I'm almost certain that most people who would have voted for FFTS in the final might vote for Feuerschwanz now. It's metal, it's different, it's fun.

I'm not sure what I want to achieve with this post. I'm just really mad that they seemingly changed the rules in the middle of the competition to prevent that the public possibly votes for a band that is not mainstream and "suitable for the (regular) radio(stations?)". To keep a band/an act from winning the pre-election that is not a band/an act that Raab thinks should represent us/is suitable for representing us.

I don't think me posting about this will change anything.

I don't even think a petition would change anything tho I would love to give it a try because I am so mad, disappointed and frustrated.

And I am SO tired of everything regarding eurovision being so fucking rigged.

Summary of Aleksi & Robin on Gogin Kantabaari ✨️

These are some of the things I found interesting/funny/otherwise worthwhile to translate, other finnish people feel free to add anything if I missed anything major 😚

- During covid aleksi and robin spent a lot of time in each others cottages making music together

important addition: gogi asks if they wore masks and they said no because they were in their "own bubble" spending time just the two of them

- Now though they haven't even seen each other for maybe 1,5-2 years - funnily enough on the next day of filming the podcast they were going to make music together after along time

- Gogi asks "what are you Aleksi gonna do now that you're going on a break?" Robin: "writes music for Robin"

- Aleksi's dream vacation is just normal living at home but if he had to go on a holiday it would be to Japan, he really liked it there

- Robin's hobby is paragliding(is that the english translation for it?) and aleksi says robin once texted him a picture when he was flying over Nummela asking "where do you live in here?" and aleksi tried to zoom in the pic and pinpoint lol

- Aleksi in turn says that he's s a very non-extreme person

Next they play a preconception game where they have claims and they gotta say who out of the three of them is most like what the claim says

- Aleksi says Robin is a "yapper" Robin says he has a 'childlike question age thing' going on where he's just curious about things

- Aleksi says he himself is most likely to record his own farts, because he uses random noises when making music and uses pitch and etc. to make it fit the music

and fun fact from aleksi: he won't reveal what ice hockey team in finland but one's goal horn sound is tommi making this humming sound that aleksi changed a bit with adding echo and crackle

- Aleksi thinks Robin is one to never have a bad day. Both of them say that if they have a bad day they usually go quiet and maybe in their own head swear at themselves, neither one is likely to flip out openly. Sometimes for example when touring and there's some situation where aleksi grows frustrated or something he might raise his voice or like snap, and the other band members might have moments like that too but everyone always apologizes right after so it never gets that serious.

- Back in the day aleksi was good at giving very thoughtful gifts but nowadays he doesn't have enough time so he might be in a 24h store during Christmas night trying to find a gift for someone. Aleksi buys expensive Christmas gifts to himself 'as a treat' cause when someone asks what he needs/wants, he can't just ask someone for a really expensive gift.

- Aleksi feels that he's lucky getting to make music in both finnish and english, making songs in finnish for finnish artist too

- Robin will be releasing an album in english next year

- Aleksi says playing bigger shows in finland and then going and playing smaller venues for example in the US keeps the band grounded. It's also important to always cover all grounds (finland, Europe, usa) because touring abroad is expensive. (The band has talked about it before too that they for example make decent money from finnish shows that they save for when they tour the US and need to rent busses etc)

- Aleksi couldn't image not living in finland, he has had dreams about living in the Los Angeles for example but at the end of the day he likes to return home to finland after touring the world

- When BC was in the US in 2022 they had a session making music with someone and bc of time zones they were watching Linnan Juhlat (the program that's aired in independence day of the finnish president hosting the party where they handshake all the guests) and it was just playing in the background and the person with them had been like "wtf are yall watching"

- idk how well I can translate these things but aleksi couldn't attend abiristeily or wanhojen tanssit cause he was busy studying music and he feels a bit bummed to miss those

for context abiristeily is a student party cruise and wanhojen tanssit is a dance you have on the second year of the finnish upper secondary school where the students wear dresses and suits and perform dances to their families and other students

The Gävle goat is getting a lot of attention around here, but I would like to make a case for a couple of other Swedish Christmas goats: The Kävlinge "Horny Goats".

It has been a Christmas tradition in the town of Kävlinge since 2015 to put up a pair of goats in a traffic circle. And for just as long, there has been a somewhat more inofficial tradition that someone will move those two goats into a mating position, giving them the nickname "kåtbockarna" (literally "the horny goats", a Swedish term similar to the English "horndog").

One year an unknown person even put up three smaller goats around the two large ones, to indicate that they've had children.

This year, however, the goats have been positioned in a somewhat less intimate position, simply kissing eachother:

Swedish television news did a short feature where they interviewed citizens of Kävlinge about this latest change, and most of them expressed disappointment, apparently preferring the "horny" version.

Considering that "bock" usually refers to males of the species, this means that Kävlinge has had a public display of gay sex each Christmas for several years, enthusiastically supported by its citizens. I think that's a Christmas tradition well worth celebrating.

They are super sweet people and their live shows are great too (I've seen them twice, once as the opening act and once on their first headline tour earlier this year 🥰)

I'm surprised to see quite a few songs from the EPIC Saga that low on the list bc I listened to 7/9 on loop for a WAY too long time oops buuut in comparison I'm not surprised that this and like 3 more are down there because there are songs that I simply love so much in each saga, and for the Hermes Circe Saga it's definitely "wouldn't you like" 👟🪽
