INTJ and ENFP fictional pairings? :)
Pride & Prejudice. Darcy and Lizzie. Any version.
Darcy is an INTJ. Rational. Clear-headed. He admits that once you cross him, it’s almost downright impossible for him to change his mind about you later on. Ni/Se has a tendency to be open minded to a point, but then close in on a singular conclusion, and since solid Ni/Se combinations see into people, and sense whether or not they are likely to change, Darcy doesn’t tolerate any illusions about Wickham reforming himself or giving him second chances with the people he cares about. When Wickham runs off with Lydia, Darcy immediately sees the long-term potential fall out, how it will destroy the Bennet family and jeopardize both his hoped-for relationship with Elizabeth and undermine his attempts to restore Mr. Bingley and Jane’s relationship. This is a combination of Ni foresight and Te common sense / practicality, which he turns into Te action to get them married and contain the “damage.” He accomplishes this by paying off Wickham – no muss, no fuss, here’s the money, get married. His major blunder comes from being Te practical about her family being poor when he proposes and essentially says, “Your family’s low and common, but I want to marry you anyway.”
Ironically, I have an INTJ male friend I’ve bickered with about this story, I pointed out when he was annoyed with Elizabeth that she had every right to be insulted with that proposal; he argued from a Te perspective that her family WAS beneath his, this was evident to everyone from the period, so why get so offended when he mentioned it? It’s a plain fact and she overreacted. =P
Lizzie is a far different character. Everything is a joke to her, in true Ne-dom fashion. Instead of talking about her feelings much of the time, she makes jokes and banters to cover them up (when Jane talks seriously about marriage, Lizzie cracks funnies about if she’s truly lucky, she can find another Mr. Collins!) (Fi). She operates on emotions, and on emotional dynamics, more than logic. She cares about Jane’s feelings. She cares about Georgiana’s feelings. She cares about her own feelings, enough to flat out refuse to marry a sensible marital partner (sensible but obnoxious) in Mr. Collins because she decided to flout the conventions of the period for… love! If she can’t find someone to love, no marriage! That’s that. Fortunately, as with all Ne-doms… once given more information about Darcy, she changes her mind completely about him and Wickham – they reverse positions in her mind. Quick perception shift.
Darcy may be obnoxious in her mind, but her lower Te can’t deny his reasoning (just get offended by it, then concede he has a point with some of it) and so she comes around to him enough to flout all conventions, ignore his aunt’s threats, and marry him because she loves him. And, as Ne would chuckle, it may have something to do with his enormous house and tons of cash. ;)
