Echo Review - 'Can't Help Singing'
Can't Help Singing, P&P Singers,
Layard Theatre, Canford School, 6th July 2013
11:18am Sunday 7th July 2013 in Echo Reviews By Lyn Richell
WHENEVER you go to a Poole and Parkstone Singers concert you know you are in for a super evening of wonderful singing.
We were entertained by songs from shows, classical and humorous pieces, too many to mention by name but some of my favourites were The King and I Medley, Where’er You Walk, Life on Mars, Shine, Evita Medley, If Ever I Would Leave You and As Long As I Have Music.
Michelle (soloist) in Badinerie by JS Bach arranged by Ward Swingle was outstanding. Sing a Song of Sixpence by Handel arranged by Michael Diack, was such fun but my all time favourites were Joyce the Librarian by Richard Stilgoe and Peter Skellern sung by Steve and Simon and the closing number Swinging With The Saints.
All in all this was an evening of high calibre entertainment and one not to be missed.
The pianist, Mary Potter, never once overshadowed the singers but played her heart out.
Jean Chambers (The Boss) must have been delighted with the performances from every one of them as were the audience.

'Can't Help Singing' simply 'outstanding'
Well, they can't help singing and we just can't help but listen as the wonderful P and P singers once again grace us with a knock out performance at the Layard Theatre, Canford School.
This years concert was an automatic success and managing to sell even more seats than last year, the review is, if it's even possible just as good if not better than 2012's 'Musical Moments.'
Linda Kirkman writes
"I have been heaping superlatives onto the Singers since they were formed fifteen years ago and old habits die hard, so please forgive me if this review is written around a central theme of ‘outstanding’, because that is most certainly what this concert proved to be."
She continues
"It is a source of constant amazement to me that 'the boss' Jean Chambers, finds such wonderful arrangements for the songs and comes up with such an incredibly varied programme"
Going on to describe the types of songs the Singer's have become so well known for performing, Kirkman says that mixing in
"nearly forty beautifully animated performers who are clearly listening to each other and as a consequence sound like one glorious voice whether singing show songs, classics or pop"
is the secret ingredient that really makes for a concert that is truly outstanding in every way.
Well done Singers, you've done P and P proud!
One more week
to go until our infamous Singer's concert at the Layard Theatre, Canford.
Conducted by Jean Chambers with pianist Mary Potter, the Singers return this July to the Layard with an array of musical treats ranging from Bach to Take That and Handel to David Bowie. There are medleys from 'The King and I,' 'Evita' and so many more.
Like a wide variety of songs? Then you'll love this! Come to 'Can't Help Singing' and indulge with us in a magnificent musical feast.
