Details:
Showa Era covers the first six doctors and all but the last season of Sylvester McCoy. So this would include the horrors of late 80s Doctor Who, but not Fenric.
Heisei Era covers the last McCoy season (26) all the way up to the Whittaker's first series. So stuff like the events of Timeless Children are not included here.
One one hand, the famous Doctor Who Kick (ドクタァァァ キック) is introduced in the Showa Era by Pertwee's Doctor V3. The era also includes the high-octane fury of Jameson's Companion Amazon and the always formidable Baker's Doctor Multicolor. Plenty of timeless classics in here.
On the other hand, although the Heisei Era includes the Great Hiatus, it has perhaps the strongest companion, Companion Decade (Coleman) whose plot activities alone could be said to split the era into two phases ("Limited regenerations" and "Limitless regenerations"). Doctor Kuuga (Eccleston) starts the era with such force, and who could forget the massive crossover event Heisei Doctor vs Showa Doctor: The Great Gallifreyan War feat. Bad Wolf? That one aired in cinemas worldwide!
Ok now to explain the bit for those of you that are Doctor Who viewers.
This is a reference to the Japanese special effects series Kamen Rider, which is about masked heroes who protect humans from anything from Aliens to The Literal Nazi Party.
The practical effects styles of Kamen Rider are really similar to that of Old-School Doctor Who as well.
Both of them have been running for over 50 years now and are INCREDIBLY culturally significant shows for their countries of origin, being referenced in just about everything ever.
Both shows change protagonists and themes with each season, which means theres a lot of easy jumping-on points.
And both shows entered a hiatus in 1989, during the reign of Emperor Showa in Japan. Hence, Showa Era.
THEN!!! They both had an EXTREMELY successful revival in the early 2000s, during the reign of Emperor Akihito, who had declared the period of his reign the “Heisei Era”
Anyway, PLEASE give Kamen Rider a shot.

Kamen Rider OOO: A hermit by the name of Eiji partners with a super ancient gay bird man to protect anyone and everyone he can.
Kamen Rider W: Detective Shotaro and his partner Philip solve mysteries relating to the Gaia Memories, which turn unwitting civilians into monsters.
Kamen Rider Kuuga: Watch this one if you’re more interested in slow-paced, serialized story telling. It follows the man with 2000 skills, Godai, as he’s wrapped up in an ancient civilization’s Death Game. It’s also EXTREMELY gay.
