Frankly, as a school librarian, I don't know why it's not standard practice to ask your mini patrons what kinds of books they'd like the library to get.

I can guesstimate pretty well based on what they take out, but I'll never be better at knowing what they'd be interested in than they are.

As I often tell them, they're the experts on what they like.

Some of the stuff my students have asked for I was like "Of course I'm already getting that" (e.g. the newest Dog Man books) but some stuff was entirely out of left field that I'd never have thought to get (e.g. books on Shakespeare and his plays, very specific book requests, etc).

I made it clear to the students that their requests aren't a guarantee that I can get those books for the library, but that I'd do my best. From the bigs to the littles, they all were totally understanding about that.

A lot of people think formatting is just “making the book look nice”

It’s more than that.

It affects:

1. Readability

2. Professionalism

3. And even how people judge your work

Bad formatting can ruin a good book.

I told the reader earlier that I'd try to make a list of FDR books that I have and would recommend, so here it is. By no means is this a complete list (and it's not in any sort of order other than roughly alphabetical), but it's a starting point if you're seeking books about Franklin D. Roosevelt:

Hey Tumblr followers (or anyone else who comes across this post), what are your favorite fantasy books? I'm looking for a new story to get emotionally invested in

As some of my longer-term followers might remember, I used to like Harry Potter a lot, before, you know

I finished reading the Lord of the Rings books when I was 26 and loved them. I did feel like my ideal fantasy series would have more women characters, though. (Eowyn is bae)

I liked the Percy Jackson books, especially due to the combination of fantasy elements with Nostalgic 2000s NYC Boy Content, because I am a guy from NYC from roughly the same generation as Percy is assumed to be. Though there are moments where I don't find him to be a super relatable protagonist or totally agree with his moral decisions

And then of course when I was 12-13 years old I had an intense fixation on the Eragon books, or at least the three of them that had come out by then. When I re-read them as an adult, I noticed that all the criticisms of it being super derivative were 100% correct, and also Eragon and Roran are kind of sociopaths. But I still couldn't help but have a certain nostalgia for the classic fantasy adventurecore "map of a magical kingdom on the first page" vibes

I definitely like stories that touch on moral themes in a thoughtful way, although as you can probably tell, I'm not into the overly grimdark stuff. I like it when at least one of the main characters can be somewhat relatable, and doesn't start the story as a master assassin or something.

I already wrote down some of the other well-known fantasy titles on my to-read list, but I'm still curious if any of you folks have specific thoughts. And feel free to ask me follow-up questions about my tastes if you want
