It's not just to have a "do over" that doesn't involve the original cast, it's to cut them out of the royalties. Literally the entire point is to make sure all the money made by Harry Potter goes to transphobes or people willing to work with transphobes.
If you watch it, you are supporting bigotry, hate, and oppression. That's just objective reality. All for a story that you probably have already seen in movie and book form.
#the last point is especially true since the old cast receives royalties for anything with their likeness on it#meaning the original trio still gets money for every mug with their 14 year old faces on it#if they stop making those and replace them with the new cast which they will the old cast gets cut off completely#which is again exactly what rowling wants because she cannot stand those 'ungrateful brats' as she would likely put it#and as she has last say in anything that gets made in harry potter paraphernalia this might also explain the decrease in faces on products

I hate Rowling so much.
Likewise, the new all-star audio books featuring people like Keira Knightley, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Gomez, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and more, only seem to have happened because Stephen Fry - who did all the original audio books - said he thought she radicalised and "was a lost cause" (x)
Just in case anyone has any doubts as to where the money is directly going

in the whole greenland conversation i feel like there's not nearly enough acknowledgement of the fact that greenland is already suffering under imperial rule. seeing wayyyyy too much tacit validation of denmark's possession of greenland on socials today. look into reproductive abuse against greenland inuit women by the danish state. US acquisition of greenland would be bad but the status quo is not good. this is not a matter of sovereignty, i only wish it were a matter of sovereignty, it's just a bunch of imperial powers playing RISK with indigenous people's lives again
Adobe is going to spy on your projects. This is insane.
For general graphics: use GIMP For vector graphics: use Inkscape For drawing and illustration: use Krita For print and web publishing and design: use Penpot For PDF authoring: use LibreOffice For PDF reading and form filling: use Okular
All are free, open source and cross-platform. None use AI.

ITS WORTH THE LEARNING CURVE
every day british actors wake up and think to themselves fuckkkkk i HAVE to help the incredibly bigoted woman make more money so she can funnel it into killing trans people i have to do it bro if i don't do it i will die
In case y'all needed proof that continuing to engage with HP and fucking over trans folks is in fact a CHOICE, Daniel Radcliffe has refused to even have a cameo, despite being repeatedly asked.
For those that don't speak British, this is about as close as he can get to officially, publicly saying, "for FUCK'S sake, get that thing away from me and stop associating me with it, I do not want my name attached to that bigotry."
Daniel consistently redirects the topic away from Jo and toward the Trevor Project, an organization he has been heavily involved with for almost 20 years. He puts his money where his mouth is and uses his platform and his reach to amplify queer voices and queer struggles. He explicitly supports trans people, and is choosing to walk away from a very large and very easy paycheck, because he values trans lives over anything he could get from HP.
Emma and Rupert also won't go near this reboot. Jo has stated the reason she's doing it is BECAUSE the three of them refuse to support her vile hatred.
Every actor who puts their name on this, on any level, deserves to own the choice they're making with their whole chest. If they decide the paycheck is worth being ten toes down on transphobia? They're adults. They chose. And they deserve to be treated accordingly. Actions speak louder than words.
And if you give it a moment of attention or a single penny, you deserve to face the consequences of that choice too.

It feels like youāre burning to the ground as the rest of world continues to breathe.
I'll be honest about the fact that I didn't like Barbarianānot because it was bad, I just didn't enjoy many of its choices.
But there were aspects I found interesting and obviously have been thinking about, so I can't say it wasn't effective. Mostly I've been thinking about how aspects remind me of Parasite.
Spoilers for both movies below.
Both movies deal with an imbalance of power (class disparity and gender disparity) and show how someone even well meaning and "nice" can abuse that power (the rich Park family is fairly polite and shown sympathetically, and Keith makes some well meaning but inappropriate remarks to Tess).
Both make use of literal different levels in homes to illustrate the descending nature of the characters. In Parasite, the Park family lives at the top in their mansion, the Kim family not quite underground in their half-basement and below them all is the man in the bunker. This is obviously a commentary on their place in society/the economy and how they are viewed in their roles.
In Barbarian the levels represent the men in the film. Keith is mostly fine, just slightly oblivious to how this situation is for Tess. And even once she seems to accept he's not a threat, he still dismisses her legitimate fear after she's seen the basement. She's clearly horrified but he refuses to accept that it's justified and it costs him his life and Tess her freedom.
Keith is the airbnb, the cute little house. Under it is AJ. he's the basement with the horrible room and bed and bucket. AJ is a rapist and therefore a monster in his own right, but in a way that's fairly socially acceptable. He can assault a woman but still feel convinced he's a good person, and rant to his friends about it because people will tolerate rapists like AJ.
The basement, which is terrible enough on its own, leads to the tunnels. The tunnels are Frank, the ultimate monster. A monster so terrible even AJ is disgusted. The monster underneath it all. All these men are represented by the different levels within the house.
The structure of the film in Barbarian mirrors this as well. It's very unusual for a film to introduce major characters so late, and it does this with both AJ and Frank. And I realized it's because it's introducing the men level by level.
At first we meet Keith, in act 1. He's fairly innocuous. The gateway man, if you will. He doesn't make it to act 2.
Act 2 introduces AJ, in his own story. We see him living his own personal nightmare (well deserved) before joining the central story. In act 3 were introduced to Frank. Again, we see his own story for a bit. We watch him shop, watch him stalk that woman. Here the story all ties together, on the final level with Frank. All of this has been his doing.
The final similarity I found is the name. On first viewing you might think the Kim family are the parasites, feeding off the Parks familys money. But maybe it's the other way around, and it's the Park family feeding off their labour. Maybe the Parasite is the guy in the bunker. Maybe not.
With Barbarian there's less debate, as by the end of the film we known for sure Frank is the barbarian (although honestly AJ kind of is too) but at first it may seem to refer to the woman in the tunnels. Certainly she seems monstrous at first, and is extremely violent. But by the end we understand she's just another victim of Frank. The real barbarian isn't a woman made into a monster it's the men who see women as commodities to use.
people saying that barbie is anti-men is so funny to me because did ken not have an entire arc where he learned that he could be his own person??? and not just an extension of barbie???
Even saying āIām so sorry, I completely forgotā sounds marginally better than ā Iām so sorry, I didnāt completely forget, I actually completely remembered. I thought about it the whole time and it stressed me out so much my brain built an insurmountable wall around it.ā
I think people are missing the point of the story. It's not about a plot line, it's far more speculative fiction more than anything else. Marcos is just the avatar of which we voyeuristically view this world.
By reading we are participating in the cycle of consumption/cannibalism, which is the point of the book.
There aren't any 100% good people in this story save for Jasmine and possibly MC's father, both of which are non participants of this society because of their state of mind.
The people in this world consume other people's bodies, time, and energy because not only does their society dictate it, it is heavily encouraged and enforced.
Like all atrocities, which are innately human, by the way, everyone is at some level a participant and what was happening was banal to them.
And they are rewarded for their mindless/or taboo consumption . And it's fitting that the infertile couple is the most evil of all in this. Marcos played the long con for the sake of having a baby because he felt he deserved . The woman was, in his eyes, just a means to an end. And his wife went along with it no questions asked because she got what she wanted.
Exploitation was the only way anyone could gain anything in this society and the one irl and its tragic. And we are all part of it.
Im honestly so proud of midnight mass for making a show abt vampires that has the Morally Sound Main Character end themselves right after learning heās been turned into a monster. No killing his loved ones or running away knowing heāll kill someone else, Riley just immediately decided heād rather not, and ended it, and while that doesnāt make for a long show, it does make a really good story
Yep i always hear about this angsts and its always "i will live forever killing people how horrible " without like even floating the idea that thry just kill thr monster (them)
Josh Hartnett didnāt die for this erasure smfh
Remember in 1993 when Jurassic Park was likeā¦the end all, be all of special effects?
not gonna lie that still looks intimately real
Iām still somewhat convinced that someone sold their soul to create the special effects in Jurassic Park because that shit is over 20 years old and it still really,Ā reallyĀ holds up, better than the stuff in a lot of current movies, even.
Fucking witchcraft, man.Ā
fucking look at this shit though
Literally see this post flying around with a few different responses added to the bottom each time so Iāll say it for this one myself:
THEY ACTUALLY BUILT A GIANT MASSIVELY DETAILED FUCKING ANIMATRONIC T-REX FOR ALL OF THIS THATāS WHY THE EFFECTS ARE SO GOOD. CAUSE IT AINāT CGI. AND IT AINāT GUY IN A COSTUME. ITāS A BIG FUCKING ROBOT DINOSAUR. AND EVERY PART IS DESIGNED TO MOVE. IT COST LIKE HALF THE BUDGET OF THE FILM.
amazing
And they had the film it in small increments, especially in the outdoor scenes, because the rain fall kept soaking into the āskinā of the rex and would slow down and mess up its movements. So they would stop filming and have a crew out there drying off this massive, fake dinosaur, and then theyād start filming again until it was too wet. Repeat until the end of the scene.
They used animatronics and detailed costumes for most if not all of the dinosaurs in the first movie.
The triceratops for instance, was also animatronic.
And the raptors were dudes in suits. I shit you not.
One of my favorite anecdotes Iāve read on tumblr is how the t-rex robot from Jurassic park would malfunction while it was drying out. How did it malfunction, you might wonder?
Motherfucker randomly started moving.
So apparently if you were on the jp set you would sometimes hear people screaming bloody murder even though they were all well aware that it was a giant animatronic puppet and wouldnāt actually, you know, eat them.
(link to said post about malfunctioning t-rex)
Did not know this, had to reblog for awesome movie history insights.
So, I knew about the animatronics bit but I did not know the raptors were guys in suits and the malfunctioning t-rex sounds terrifying.
And i just googled malfunctioning t-rex and was not disappointed. Apparently in order to put the skin on over the steel frame a guy had to crawl inside the t-rex while it was turned on and glue the skin down. And if somebody turned the t-rex off or the power went out the guy in the t-rex stood a very real chance of getting mangled and killed by the hydraulics.
So of course, the power goes out.
And this guy is still in there gluing the skin down.
Apparently the way to survive getting sheered to death by huge sheets of metal while youāre inside a giant t-rex robot is to curl into a ball and hope for the best.
And this guy hoped for the best and got it.
Some other people on stage pried open the t-rex jaws and glue guy crawled out of its mouth and was totally okay.
This is getting better and better.
I think they only had like 6 minutes of CGI
Iām just waiting for the T-Rex to come to life and leave its stand.
@spinosaurus-the-fisher is this the kind of content you love?
Realism comes at a cost, it seems.
i mean ok but why has nobody posted this:
Itās a three piece raptor suit.
Old movies had the best special effects
The thing about this that gets my special effects nerd going is the fact that EVERY single dinosaur was sculpted by artists based on the current existent archeological evidence of the time.

Even better than that, this movie ADVANCED our best understanding of dinosaurs at the time. Ā They were blowing out a budget bigger than anything Hollywood had ever seen, and along with employing almost the last hurrah of incredible physical FX, they had a bank of those newfangled digital SFX computers. Ā Nobodyād ever really created convincing dinosaurs in a movie before. Ā Itād all been stop-motion animation, and even when the models were exquisitely crafted, you could just tell there was something OFF about them. Ā Spielberg wanted THE BEST DINOSAURS EVER, and he figured on using the cutting edge of digital modeling and animation technology to build them for him.
So they got hold of some of the best paleontologists they could find and said,Ā āWe want you guys to take this tech that your labs could pretty much never afford and use it to build us the most realistic, accurate dinosaur models the world has ever seen.ā
The paleontologists knew an opportunity when it bit them in the ass. Ā They plugged in everything they knew about dinosaurs, all the skeletons and their best guesses about soft tissue and all that. Ā And when theyād created those dinosaur models, they had the computer start moving them as they realistically would with anatomy like that. Ā One guy took a look at those walking t-rexes and velociraptors (really utahraptors, but whatevs, fam), and he said,Ā āWait a minute, Iāve seen movement like that before.ā
He called up film of a chicken walking. Ā Everyone in the room said,Ā āHoly shit.ā
Prior to 1989, the idea that birds were descended from dinosaurs existedāwe knew about archaeopteryx, we knew there was some minor connection thereābut the idea that DINOSAURS LIVE IN THE MODERN WORLD AND THEY ARE CALLED BIRDS was not pre-eminent. Ā Jurassic Park changed our scientific understanding of dinosaurs.
That paleontologistsād be Kevin Padian. Who is awesome.

This post just gets better and better with time
That being said, Jurassic Park was still a landmark film for CGI. Previously, Universal had used CGI for Terminator, specifically that one that was all liquid metally and could shapeshift, so we knew CGI could make these really smooth surfaces like plastic, but we had no idea if we could use it on anything else. Jurassic Park was one of the first times CGI was really used for something else, and it marked the start of a fantastic new development for making films like this.
This scene was the big one. All these Gallimimus were implemented in through CGI. In reality, Alan, Lex, and Tim were just running through an empty field. And this seems ho-hum now, but you have to remember that this was one of the first times CGI was ever used.
Still, the giant animatronic T. rex was really cool.
āSometimes I think āI need to think before I speakā and then other times I think āI shouldnāt leave the house or interact with people ever.āā
