gosh, isn't it interesting that this symptom is specific to men for some unknowable reason? listening and learning
why is this symptom specific to men. think
#‘I HAVE BIG FEELINGS’ is only allowed for toddlers#you are an adult. use your words. stop making excuses.#bet these men dont do that around their bosses or anywhere there could be consequences they care about either 💅
lol “have you considered your abusive boyfriend might have ADHD? Try having some empathy once in a while”. Great. Love it.
Seriously, ‘the angry man being aggressive and physically threatening is doing so to express that he is mad’. WOW ya don’t say. ‘But this common abusive behavior is different because he’s special’. Bro they all think the reason they’re abusive is special and not actually abuse or not actually about hurting you or not actually about intimidating you!
Why does he do that? - Lundy Bancroft
I do think this is a valuable insight, but. Also.
This is not specific to men.
It's not specific to anybody. If you're feeling overwhelmed, and you haven't been taught how to outlet that upset, a lot of people will just lash out. While it's important to recognise patterns like this in certain groups, and to prioritise someone's health and safety over someone else's feelings, pinning anything onto 'oh, evil men and nobody else experiences emotions in a way that is not socially acceptable', is reductive and doesn't help us treat the core issue of not properly helping children to deal with their emotions in healthy ways, a problem which disproportionately affects men, but also affects neurodivergent people, abuse victims, and literally anyone.
And it is abusive! It's not healthy! But it's not men that are the problem, y'all.
is this the part where we all pretend that women commit domestic violence at equal rates to men
"nobody else experiences emotions in a way that's not socially acceptable" is a fascinating blind spot bc the entire point here is that men specifically behaving like this towards women is socially acceptable behaviour.
it has been socially accepted to a significant degree for centuries for men to express anger towards and power over women and children through displays of physical aggression and explosive anger. it is extremely normalised which is why it's notable that people are consistently excusing it.
antifemininist talking points are So Fucking Stupid because they act as if the point of feminism is to say that men are biologically uniquely disposed to bad behaviour and not that aggressive, coercive and violent behaviour in men is treated as justified and normal.
recurring dead wife flashback where it becomes increasingly apparent that the person remembering her has dishonestly claimed a romantic dynamic to their relationship that never actually existed and erased any conflict that ever existed between them now that she's no longer able to say no to them
dead wife flashback where each time we see her she looks more confused and upset by how she's remembered, then desperate and furious, until she's hammering on the glass screaming to be let out
this isn't how it happened. you know this isn't how it happened. but you still keep coming back, keep disturbing my grave so you can play out your fantasies. voyeurs crowding around my autopsy, straining for the best view; pawing through my entrails like grubby butchers trying to find some golden meaning in blood and shit because you can't bear to face the cold light of truth. you just can't bear the thought of never having really known me at all.
because people have flipped out two recent posts of mine i feel like tumblr should remember it’s actually fine to acknowledge non-white, non-western countries can also have misogyny/political corruption/religious extremism. like I know a lot of young liberal Americans try to overcorrect for our conservative government but acting like Saudi Arabia or India are baby countries entirely full of morally pure, simple people is actually playing into the Noble Savage stereotype and not the anti-imperialist flex you think it is
As someone living in a country like this that's having its elections soon, THIS
My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Let the historical record show that Mr. Beast was entirely ignorable if you were just like doing literally anything else. I've been on youtube as long as it's been around and I've never been recommended a video by him. I see him in passing as a meme. I thought he was a made up joke, a caricature of bad youtuber content miners until someone I trust confirmed his existence to me in late 2025.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR BOYYYYY
Im sorry but it is so funny how people outside of tumblr view us. Like why are the tiktokers treating tumblr like some professional ass website you need to do extensive prep before you begin posting on. And the follower farming advice is so fucking funny to me when this is the website where people actively hate getting new followers
Tumblr is the website where you ramble to yourself like a madman until someone decides they like you and put you into their pocket like a shiny rock. That's how you get followers
"have some idea of content you want to do", "have lots of drafts before posting" - no, silly, just post whatever comes to your mind at 2 AM. the best thing about tumblr is that you can start rambling about some obscure background character from a 3000 year old poem, and there'll always be someone equally invested
Every Website right now: Give us a scan of your driver's license or be banished. It's for safety.
Every Website for the last 10 years: Oopsies we had another massive data breach! Tee-hee!
I need something I just don’t know what it is yet
this has been going on for like 20 years by the way.. I will let you all know when I figure it out
Spending 4+ hours in a lab, mentally checked out and exhausted from back to back classes since 8am nodding sincerely and trying not to make the old lab demonstrator feel like his long lectures aren't interesting
AroAce culture is the sinking feeling when your friend or family member gets into a romantic relationship
Which feels selfish, because you love them, and you should be happy for them
And you would be, you would be so happy. If only even the most casual romantic relationships weren’t placed tenfold higher than even the most devoted friendship
.
also btw, you dont even have to be ace, aro, or have differing sexual and romantic attraction tendencies to believe in the split-attraction model, nor to see proof of it literally everywhere, even (and especially) in the straightest spaces imaginable.
(widely proclaimed) straight people who aren't involved in the queer community often display behaviors that prove its existence time and time again. have you even seen how so many straight people are romantically straight but aren't afraid to be a little homo in the bedroom? some of it is for laughs of course (kinda weird imo), but why would they be participating in the bedroom this way if they didn't get something enjoyable out of it? and yes this includes the enjoyment a person can get solely by pleasing another of the same sex or gender. that counts. that makes you sexually queer no matter how you spin it.
ive been wondering forever why straight people don't tend to see romantic and sexual attraction as different things that may or may not happen to match up at times. what causes these people to refuse to have any interest or curiosity about how/why these things may work?
depression is really one of the most obnoxious things to deal with. really difficult to articulate that you’ve been struggling to do the dishes because you’re too busy trying not to kill yourself without it coming off like a manipulative excuse. almost easier to just be like “I’m an unrepentant nasty slob and I love living like this.” than admitting you are not a functioning human being and have no idea what to do to make it better.
Book Grace ily
Book Grace:
Assumes past him was brave enough to take the mission, thinks that’s super dumb because there were definitely better candidates but accepts it.
“Well I guess that’s who I am. The smartest idiot to be brave enough to be shot into space.” Proceeds to wear that character as a mask to cover the fear and petty (justifiable) anger over his situation.
Post coma Grace is alarmingly blasé about risking his life and frequently jokes sarcastically about dying. He rushes through his work and makes many cavalier mistakes. He finds it quite easy to shrug off Rocky’s jabs at his work and readily admits when he’s wrong and Rocky is right.
This person is not the Ryland Grace from Earth. That Grace checked and double checked his work in the face of a race against the clock, he was petty and snarky every single time literally anyone even suggested he was wrong and he valued his life enough that the end of the world wasn’t enough to get him to risk it. He was also extremely uncomfortable about the original crew making light about their deaths.
Movie Grace:
Has an instinctual feeling that the situation he’s in isn’t right beyond the obvious. He can’t reconcile the idea that he would be brave enough to volunteer for the mission because in his gut he knows that he wasn’t and still isn’t. That’s why he said dumb when Rocky asked for the translation for brave when book Grace accepted that description. In the face of this he assumes that rather than something making him brave enough to volunteer, he was actually just caring and reckless enough to do it for his kids and the rest of humanity.
So this is the mask he must wear to overcome his fear, deep care for others with a dash of recklessness. This isn’t near as effective of a mask against fear, if it was enough he would have volunteered in the first place because that actually is who he is. So he has to try to move through the fear anyway, this winds up with him just trying to keep moving at a fast enough pace that the fear can’t catch him.
In the movie, Earth Grace and post coma Grace remain fairly consistent because they reduced the impact of his amnesia, which left him with an instinctual understanding of who he was as a person.
In the book, Earth Grace and post coma Grace have significant differences in how they respond to things due to the extreme levels of amnesia leaving him without even an instinctual understanding of himself, like for Christ sake he was genuinely worried he might be a pedophile for a second.
Yes book Grace was absolutely more bitchy and less awkward but there isn’t all that much difference in how they responded to the mission and stepped up to the plate once push came to shove. Movie Grace just wallowed more because he didn’t have the bravery mask to hide behind, and Book Grace messed around and wasted time making stupid mistakes, like leaving everything out knowing he was about to go into micro gravity, because he thought he was the scientist equivalent of Han Solo or something.
I think a lot of people were raised being told that things are bad with no explanation as to why they’re bad and I don’t think I know enough about psychology to make any big statements about that
but anyways I think a lot of people see cheating on your partner as bad because they were just told that sex outside of your partner is bad or something but really cheating on your partner is bad because you had an agreement based on trust with them and you broke that trust so like why should they trust you with anything else now
