international fanworks day! A Blue Beetle of your choice meets Ezekiel Jones the Librarian
Dan looked over the exhibit with a smile on his face. Decades of hard work researching ancient Egypt, digging into the sand, and begging Diana to let him interview various Amazons had paid off. In many ways, the Hub City University's prized exhibit on ancient Egypt was the crown jewel of his career.
There were gaggles of kids pointing at a replica of Pharaoh Kha-Ef-Re's mummy, gossiping about the hieroglyphs. His favorite student from the gen ed archeology class, Ted Kord, was standing in front of a piece of the pharaoh's tomb that depicted the scarab.
And near the display with some of the pharaoh's gems was a young man whose focus was more on the display case than the jewels. As Dan watched, he saw the way the young man's eyes went to the various cameras and the security.
Those jewels were on loan from Egypt. He absolutely did not want to get a call from Cairo about their missing artifacts. More than that, he worked too damn hard for those gems to end up collecting dust as some rich man's conversation piece.
Dan walked up. "Enjoying the exhibit?"
The young man turned around and smiled a too innocent smile. "Well, yeah! Of course! I love all this... Egypty stuff. Especially the tyet of Isis."
Dan smiled while keeping his eyes on the young man's hands. Said hands twitched at the attention. "Good. I love encouraging people to learn. I am not thrilled with the idea of people trying to steal it, though."
"Steal? Me? Never."
Dan gave his best Old Man look.
"Well. Um. I was thinking of borrowing it. Maybe. See, I'm a librarian."
"And I'm an archeologist. If your library wants to borrow something, I can give you the emails and numbers of those you need to contact."
"Well, it's a bit urgent."
Dan crossed his arms. "Then explain."
The young man tilted his head and sucked in his breath. "Well-"
A blonde woman who looked more like a security guard than the security guards walked up. "Is there an issue?"
"There isn't an issue now, and I don't think there will be, will there?"
The young man looked over to the woman. "This man's a guard dog over his life's work."
The woman nodded. Then she turned to Dan and whipped out her badge. It was legit, as far as Dan could tell. "We might need this for security reasons."
Dan nodded. "Let's go to my office to talk about these security reasons, Ms. -?"
"Eve Baird. This is Ezekiel. Let's talk, Dr. Garret."
