When I was in college, I was taking French classes. My professor was an older woman who loved stereotypes of all kinds, but especially those of gender.

The first day of class, I told her I use they/them pronouns. She said she would try her best to accommodate me.

She regularly used the feminine form of every word for me when speaking to me, even though the masculine form would have been more appropriate.

When giving out worksheets, she would say “boys do the evens, girls do the odds” despite all of us being grown adults. I always picked one at random to do, and she always called on me to answer one that she had assigned to the girls. I would say I didn’t do those.

I would very often remind her of my pronouns but she eventually started treating me like I was being disruptive.

The final straw was one morning before class, she asked me about what it means to be nonbinary. I assumed she was finally trying to understand me, so I explained in simple terms.

“You can think whatever you want but it doesn’t change what you are,” she said, “I may not feel like wearing makeup sometimes, but that doesn’t make me not a woman.”

She also said something very bioessentialist, but I don’t remember it as much as I remember that first part, where she basically implied that I am delusional.

this is like a combination of exorsexism and racism i believe

my partner uses they/them pronouns and is black. everyone i know has automatically assumed they were white, feminine and slim, but the moment these people found out my partner is black? theyre suddenly masculine, suddenly they use masculine pronouns, suddenly they arent slim, suddenly theyre tough and scary.

no matter what, theyre pushed into some sort of binary instead of just being gender neutral, and it seems whenever theyre assumed to be feminine, that assumption comes with the idea that they are white.

this is in no way an attack on binary trans people- but many of the trans people i know try to shove me in gendered boxes, like no, I don't get more gender euphoria with you using he/him pronouns for me, just because i consider myself trans and was born female, doesn't mean you should use those pronouns. you know my pronouns, use them.
