The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
We rolled out a significant change to how notes work on reblogs, and the reaction has been strong. We're not going to pretend otherwise.
First things first: We're reversing the change. Your feedback in comments, emails, and especially reblogs, made clear that the rollout created problems we need to address before moving forward. We also should have communicated this differently from the start, and we didn't.
We still believe there's a better version of how reblogs can work. One that gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves. But we want to get there with you.
In the coming days we'll share more on how we plan to do that, including ways to work directly with some of you on this and future changes before they ship.
I got the first book free on audible and I'm loving it, so went on Tumblr to have a look and you're the only person apart from the author posting - a tragedy 😭
Still, the fandom has reached the dizzying heights of TWO people now lmao
Look. The world is terrible and all the news is generally depressing but this Reddit drama has fuelled me.
For the last month, a guy has been coming into r/kitchenconfidential and has been posting photos of the chives he's cut in a bid to show he can cut a perfect bunch of chives.
He has been criticised, but his perseverance and determination to improve has endeared him to the subreddit to such an extent that his posts got enough traction to escape the chef-y/foodie subreddits and hit r/all.
People have posted their cat (called chives), been concerned when the guy was late posting - regular commenters have got their own status from being able to spot the problem chives.
There was palpable disappointment when there were NO CHIVES IN TOWN and so the guy had to miss a day.
Chiveguy got a flair under his username of "chivelord".
It's day 31 and someone posts to say that the chive posts are being faked. This gets deleted by the mods. A second post goes up - this time it stays up.
Mods post overlaying photos of chives to try to prove/disprove the theory.
It seems more and more likely, the betrayal is palpable. Someone posts the whole saga into subreddit drama.
People begin suggesting the guy is in fact a "chivefraud" (there have been a lot of chive based puns).
A few hours after this, the guy has come forward and admitted that the last photo was a fake. His car broke down and he did not have time that day to cut chives because he had to sort out shit in his real life - but the pressure of the level of engagement he'd been getting had fucked with his head and he felt he had to post so he used an old photo.
The reaction from people is overwhelming - currently the apology post has got circa 26k upvotes in 2 hours. People are saying they're not angry - they're disappointed.
He's saying he'll do whatever reasonable punishment Reddit decides and never lie again.
Public consensus so far appears to be that he is forgiven and that people are glad to have been there to witness Chivegate - although not confirmed yet it's likely that this man's punishment will be to cut the chives on camera.
Shit like this is why I continue to stick with Reddit despite it's myriad of issues.
So I was in the Kaladin tag, having just started The Stormlight Archives and obviously am now deep in my love for this sad man, and then at some point I must have clicked out and this gif came up... And I'll be honest I thought I was still in the tag lmao.
So, Waterstones sent me my copy before the release date and obviously as I have been impatiently waiting for this book, I read it all in an evening - and it was great!!
Spoilers/first thoughts/incoherent screaming below the cut

It was a really fun book, and we got to spend more time with Abigail who was the second narrator to Peter - something I thoroughly enjoyed, but people who didn't get on with her novella may not jive with.
But in my opinion, Aaronovitch was once again doing stellar work for the queers as Abigail's part included a SUPER CUTE sapphic romance with a MERMAID. Let me tell you I was INVESTED - it made me think back to my first lesbian experiences and it was just really wholesome and sweet? I think he captured the emotions really well and I felt like a teenager again seeing it all through Abigail's eyes.
Peter, Bev and the twins are great - and I liked seeing more of the family dynamic - also Bev (who, let's be fair, is always a badass) has an EVEN MORE badass moment in this book.
We got more info about the Talking Foxes which was fun, and also learned that the fox network is UK-wide.
It being set in Scotland was great and I think that the vibes were really very good - there is something about the way it talks about the sea and the beaches and the people and culture that just gives you the right feelings in your chest when you read them. I can't explain it better than that but you kind of feel Scotland in your heart by the time you get to the end - it's as much a main character as anyone else.
The mythology was brilliant - selkies and mermaids and the bonds of family; my ONE complaint was a lack of Kelpies but I figure that there may be time for that yet as clearly the book leaves room for the characters to return to Scotland in the future.
THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO KNOW ABOUT THE BLACK LIBRARY AND MAY WANT TO GET ACCESS - this was not part of the main plot but let me tell you I got ACTIVATED when I read that! Potentially laying groundwork for some intense conflict regarding that in subsequent books.
There wasn't enough Nightingale for my liking, although of course as my favourite character I want everything to be about him, but the bits we got were great and it was actually really nice to see him letting other people lead the way? And not trying to do everything himself? Talk about growth?? There was also a great moment near the end where Peter asks him how he dealt with losing people and Nightingale literally was like lmao I didn't deal with shit which is probably the most introspective and open he's been about, you know, all the crippling loss he's experienced.
Peter as always has made friends, snarked his way out of various situations and is very clearly levelling up on the magic - he mentions training with Nightingale and it's clearly paying off because he's genuinely getting to the point where he can face off against other practitioners on their level which was cool to see.
Lots of mentions of the American magic traditions - including summoning creatures from other dimensions was kind of cool, and I'm interested to see where that all goes.
The actual plot takes a pretty strong stand about oil drilling and human (?) trafficking, and yeah the oil company was the villain, but not necessarily all the people working for it - a differentiation I appreciated.
Overall, I enjoyed it very much, read it through in one evening and will be back to re-read because I'm sure I missed lots of stuff.

Thinking about how much Thomas Nightingale would hate the bastardized pseudo-Latin in some certain other wizard books. He would be so mad. As he should be, of course.
Having gotten to the point in The Hanging Tree where Nightingale finds out about Gender Recognition Certificates and is outraged to learn that trans people have to prove their gender to a panel, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that actually he would harbor a seething hatred for those other wizards books for many reasons.
The Joker’s violent attention-comedy bullshit would 100% just not work if his main opponent was John Constantine. Both because John is funnier than he is and just does NOT care. Joker would be bouncing around like “look at me, I’m so EEEEVILLLL” and John’s just bored because this isn’t even in the top ten evil things he’s seen this morning
