Drarry fic recs I

Umm, so I’ve read a *lot* of Drarry in the past couple of months. SO MUCH DRARRY. And I have feelings. Here is a list of a few that I’ve loved so far. Keep in mind that my taste is usually a lil’ on the darker side when it comes to this ship (meaning I enjoy angst and actively seek out stories that will make me cry) and I have a thing for mentor!Snape. Without further ado~

• Turn by Sara’s Girl - This is my favorite thing ever and the best one I’ve read in a LONG LONG time. It’s essentially this epic 300k tale of Harry learning how to live his life to the fullest, and it has the most exquisite characterization of Draco, and you. won’t. be. able. to. put. it. down. For real. It’s even CANON COMPLIANT (i.e. not EWE) when it starts so you can just adopt it straight to your headcanon and live the rest of your life in happy Drarry heaven.

• Reparations by Sara’s Girl - IF YOU DON’T ALREADY LOVE DRARRY, THIS IS THE PERFECT INTRODUCTION. This is everything I adore about this pairing and it has all this fantastic flirting, pining, and sexual tension. It is all to die for and I want to stay in this fic ‘verse until the end of time. Also check out its lovely sequel Foundations. And everything else this author has ever written, particularly All Life is Yours to Miss, Stop and Stare, The Next Twenty-Four Hours, Salt on the Western Wind, On a Clear Day, All Must Draw Near.

• A Thousand Beautiful Things by geoviki - I’m so thoroughly taken with this fic and it’s such a wonderfully well-written piece that I didn’t even think about how long it took for the Drarry part to happen until I’d already finished it. Spy!Draco and war/post-war and touching friendships galore. I’ve cried so much, and it has this lovely mentor!Snape, and your heart will break for them all, but it’s all so beautiful, and I can’t rec it enough. Seriously, don’t miss it.

• Tempus Fugit by Poison Pen - This is the kind of fic that is so beautifully written that I want to read every word out loud just to feel how they taste in my mouth (and if you don’t recognize this feeling, I AM SO SORRY). Drarry has such amazing passion together here, the sort of romance I love to read but so rarely find. Deals with future-travel and all that greatness. It will really tug at your heart strings, and the writing is so rich and eloquent. 

• Chaos Theory by Tessa Crowley - This fic BROKE ME. IT KILLED ME. I AM DEAD. It tore my heart into tiny, tiny shreds, and eventually I was just begging for mercy, barely able to see what I read at certain points because I. could. not. stop. crying. Haven’t cried so much over a fic in years, if ever. But it was the most beautiful, beautiful thing. I loved it so much. Genius!Draco and mentor!Snape and the most soul-touching love story there is. It comes with SERIOUS trigger warnings though, so proceed carefully. Read the tags.

• Cunning and Ambition by MinaAndChao - I love Slytherin!Harry and this is the best one I’ve found. It’s a canon rewrite of all the books, but it’s so much darker and deals with things like the Dursleys’ abuse. I have cried myself to pieces every time I’ve read this one, and it is a thing of BEAUTY. It also has the most amazing mentor!Snape, and I just really like how you can feel Harry & co age in this, from their innocence as first years to the arrival of puberty in their teens later. I mean, Harry and Draco are best friends. Sooo good.

• Secrets by Vorabiza - BAMF!Harry, anyone? This is a 400k+ monster with the most badass characterization of Harry I’ve ever seen, and it’s such a thoroughly indulgent and enjoyable read that I had endless fun with. I can’t wait to read it again–soon. It was written pre-DH but some of this author’s ideas about Horcruxes are even better than in canon. This fic is not for everyone, I think, but do give it a try. You might end up loving it just as much as I did (and if that’s the case, try Malfoy Flavor too for some Slytherin!Harry.)

• He Who Must Not Be Normal by lettered - THIS ONE MESSED ME UP. The writing style is so unique to this author, Draco and Harry are so desperate and dysfunctional that it HURTS, and it is glorious. It is beautiful. It will break your heart a little. Also check out The Boy Who Only Lived Twice.

• Touch Me Fall by lumosed_quill - One of those fics that stayed with me for a good while after finishing it. This is such a lovely piece of writing and this author writes such a fantastic Drarry that I could weep. Harry also makes this really controversial speech in front of the Ministry in it and it. gave. me. chills. Check out Right Hand Red and the rest of this author’s Drarry works.

• Then Comes a Mist and a Weeping Rain by faithwood - This is going to sound strange but I just adore the way this author writes kissing. I’ve read all her stories and her Drarry is gorgeous, you have to see it for yourself. This one is my fave because it is such an adorable bundle of fluff and fuzzy feelings, so well-written you won’t even notice the lack of a proper plot.

watching a video about this cargo ship that blew up in texas in the 40’s and it’s like . i know that with a lot of incidents especially older ones like this the reason that the safety standards were so shitty was because they literally did not know that these kinds of disasters COULD happen (and in many cases these disasters are what MADE the safety standards better) but sometimes you just learn about this shit and you think. how could all these people be so stupid

- cargo of the ship consisted of twine (flammable) peanuts (flammable, oily) and cotton (FLAMMABLE) from houston and POST WAR AMMUNITION (OH MY GOD) FROM CUBA

- additional cargo they were picking up in texas city was LOOSE BAGS OF AMMONIUM NITRATE that the dock workers described as being ANOMALOUSLY WARM UPON BEING LOADED INTO THE SHIP ??????

- small fire breaks out in cargo hold, instead of putting it out with water that could damage the cargo the captain decides to close all the hatches to try to make the cargo hold airtight and smother the fire (stupid but you can kind of understand how they got there)

- the heat of the trapped smoke in the cargo hold instead causes the aforementioned LOOSE BAGS OF AMMONIUM NITRATE to undergo a chemical reaction and turn into nitrous oxide, massively increasing the pressure inside of the airtight hold

- one of the hatch covers fails

- mfw all the pressure in the cargo hold is released at once causing an explosion that fucking levels everything in the port within 2000 feet

- mfw the shockwave shatters windows up to a hundred miles away

- mfw on-fire twine and peanuts and fucking grenades are raining down over texas city

- mfw some of the pieces of the ship got launched into the sky faster than the speed of sound

- mfw they found the ship’s anchor inside of a ten foot wide crater over a mile and a half away

- mfw this was one of the largest and most devastating non-nuclear explosions in world history

- mfw this could have been avoided if they’d just taken the L and put the fire out with water

also worth a mention: the SECOND boat that exploded in a very similar manner the next day which was an even more violent explosion, but less devastating because most of the port was. you know. already leveled and evacuated

someone running rescue and recovery after the FIRST boat exploded noticed that the second boat’s cargo was on fire and reported it….and this just went. ignored. for several hours. until someone was like “oh shit better get this under control” and tried to move the boat to no avail and they just gave up and evacuated

next day it started raining glowing-hot metal boat chunks all over the city. AGAIN.
