An Arabian sand boa (Eryx jayakari) in Biddiya, Oman
by Roberto Sindaco
It feels good
tier list of international radiotelephony spelling alphabet letters by how well they work as personal names
S - hell yeah
Echo - shades of Greek mythology, interesting and distinct while also being an actual name that some people have
November - @postoctobrist is the reason why I am making this list
Sierra - from the Spanish for "mountain range", falls under the same distinct-but-reasonable category as Echo
A - perfectly reasonable names
Charlie
India
Juliet*
Oscar
Romeo*
Victor
*these names are cool but be warned that if you choose one you will get the same three Shakespeare jokes for the rest of time
B - sure I guess
Delta - I have never heard of anyone with this name but I think it could work?
Mike - deeply boring name, try and be more imaginative. (the only reason Charlie isn't down here is that I know a couple of Charlies and they're lovely)
Zulu - probably don't name yourself this if you're white
C - I am really curious how you're gonna make these work
Bravo - I feel like this has the cadence and feel of a name, but it's definitely out there
Lima - people named after cities are not that common, but I guess if Paris can be a name then so can this
Papa - not sure this works as a legal name but it's definitely plausible as a nickname within a very specific in-group
Quebec - see Lima
D - maybe salvageable somehow?
Foxtrot - pretty odd, but you could shorten it to Fox and it's kinda reasonable
Tango - another dance, but even harder to make work than Foxtrot
Whisky - occupies a similar nickname space as Papa, with the extra downside that it makes you sound like an alcoholic
X-Ray - "Ray" on its own is fine but randomly shoving Xs at the start of things is something that basically only Elon Musk does
Yankee - it's not completely insane as a name but it has enough unpleasant connotations that I wouldn't recommend it
F - do not under any circumstances use these
Alpha - if someone introduces themself to me as "Alpha" I will immediately cover my drink
Golf - all issues with the sport aside, I just think this is a really ugly sequence of phonemes
Hotel - you are not a Monopoly token
Kilo - usually units of measurement are named after people, not the other way round
Uniform - too on-the-nose even for a badly written dystopia novel
I really recommend the Táin Bó Cúailnge to anyone looking to get into medieval literature because it's a great story, brilliant poetry (I read the Carson translation, and the way he translates the roscada sections are beautiful) and the backbone of the Ulster Cycle, but it's also just really fucking funny. It has a very slapstick yet dry sense of humor that provides just enough comic relief to make the dramatic moments of the story even more impactful. Genuinely I laugh out loud every few pages. Go read it.
You can't make this shit up
⁉️ happy pride month turns out I Saw The TV Glow is free to watch on youtube and has been for at least three months now and i did not know until just now

The Neighborhood Watch The little character on those signs always scared me as a kid - I was worried if I wandered around at night that I might see him. Like he was some kind of entity lol. Had to draw him!

I have never, and will never, use "ofc" to mean "of fucking course". It literally stands for OF Course...
people NEED to stop gatekeeping making music like ohhhh i don’t have an instrument ohhhhh i don’t know music theory ohhhhh i’m not gonna pay for some program. SHUT UP. take my hand.
you need NONE of that shit!!!!! there’s a website called beepbox.co. literally all you have to do is press things until it sounds a modicum of nice. it’s easy it’s free and it works on anything which has a browser because it’s a website.
if even ONE person starts making music bc of this post it will be worth it.
making bad music is just as important and okay as it is to write badly or draw badly or sing badly. you AREN’T BEHOLDEN TO MAKE GOOD MUSIC. making music is not utilitarian HAVE FUN. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!
love how people will encourage people to just start making shit and see what happens when it comes to drawing and writing but when it comes to beginner musicians (music makers if you wish to be less formal) it’s just COMPLETE RADIO SILENCE. it feels like no one even knows you MAKE music it just sprouts up from the ground one day and some guy picks it up. am i alone in this dark cave
Fuck it
I'm gonna try and make music
Call me betovan bc I'm deaf as fuck /j
HELL YEAH!!!
Alternatively if you wanna get into music producing in a more “proper” way, you still don’t need any money.
Ableton has excellent free websites to learn the basics:
Learning Music
Learning Synths
You can learn basically everything you need on YouTube. I recommend:
Mercurial Tones Academy
Dan Worrall
Bthelick
A lot of your favorite artists, mainly in electronic music, likely have done track breakdowns, you can watch those to learn how they do things.
DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) ultimately all do the same things, and Cakewalk is a great FREE fully fledged one. Sure it has some issues, and doesn’t have many plugins included, but it works just fine. All the music I released so far was made there, before I made the jump to Ableton.
As for VST plugins:
Vital is an excellent free synth
Native Instruments Komplete Start is a good free collection of plugins
TDR Nova is a great free EQ
There’s a lot of others and I don’t wanna name everything I’m aware of here, but feel free to DM me for more (Or if you have any other questions and stuff too).
And as for samples, you can get a bunch of free ones at:
Cymatics
Ghosthack
Having good headphones is nice and what I’d recommend you invest in first once it comes to it, but even your current ones will probably be fine, mainly if you slap AutoEQ onto them to flatten the frequency response. And ultimately, music isn’t all about the mixing, the most important part is conveying an emotion.
I know this goes against the spirit of the original post a little, but I want people to know that getting into music production also no longer costs thousands, you can just do it at home on your computer without no money.
Yeah, there is still quite the learning curve, I get that, though it’s also why it’s managed to hold me as a hobby for so long.
I do however have something of the exact opposite variety too, the most simple way to make music I know of, and a wonderful little semi-social experience, along the lines of the game Journey:
The New PLINK! is the long overdue update of #plink by @DinahmoeSTHLM. Jam with friends and strangers all over the world.
hi op i think you should know that i did indeed make a song for the first time because of this
I have just combined all rice in the world into a single rouse

Uhhhh here’s a concept that younger Ocean and Constance ended up swapping their dynamic over time with one being the outgoing one and the other being more nervous and unconfident. Ocean starts out super unsure of herself due to not really interacting with people in town before school and having parents who don’t really validate her. Meanwhile Constance had a normal family life with loving parents which is in short supply i guess. And as alluded to in the jawbreaker monologue, without the expectations of highschool she just had a fun childhood, which let her be more upbeat and cheerful compared to Ocean who is a concerningly turbulent kindergartener. Over the years Ocean gained (very conditional) confidence because of her academic achievements and constant chase for validation. Meanwhile Constance was further forced into the role of the nice agreeable girl and the combination of highschool, toxic friends, depression, and generally feeling trapped in Uranium made her a lot more reserved with Ocean pulling her around. If they didn’t fucking die and got to heal their relationship irl they’d probably balance out dynamic wise
Just finished playing citizen sleeper and HOLY CRAP this game is underrated.
Amazing character designs for one.
Also the character writing is fantastic. Love Lem & Mina. Love bliss & Moritz. Love Sabine and Rabiah. Also Emphis and Tala and Tala.
It’s really rare for me to find a game I think is underrated. I find games I like, but think they have the expected level of popularity. I tried looking up play through to see what the game was like, and the only thing that came up was trailers, and nothing else.
Also maybe I’m just not looking hard enough but I haven’t seen any fanart either.
What I’m trying to say is that this game is criminally underrated for how good it is.
