What you'll need:
Photoshop (I use Photoshop 2023)
Basic knowledge on how to make gifs
Camera Raw filter installed
Okay so, first of all, I use two different methods depending on the size of the gif. Let's start with the one I use for most of my gifsets which are big gifs (examples: x x x x.)
METHOD #1: Smart Sharpen + Camera Raw
I started using the Camera Raw filter last year and let me tell you, I'm obsessed! It completely changes the game of sharpening. I use this method for all gifs with a 540px width.
We're going to work on timeline so get your gif ready and convert it for smart filters. I'm using this scene from my last set as a base:
Here's the gif after I color it (I usually sharpen my gifs before I color them but for the sake of the tutorial I'm showing you this so you guys can see the difference):
(1) Smart Sharpen Layer: Let's start by adding a Smart Sharpen layer (Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen) with these settings:
Disclaimer: I didn't come up with these settings myself I got them from these sharpening actions forever ago so I don't know which one it is :/. I also wasn't able to find that person's new blog (if they even have one since they've been inactive since 2021) so if anyone knows please let me know and I'll give them proper credit!
Now we're going to go to the 'Layers' panel and click on this little thingy:
This window will pop up and we are going to change the Opacity to 50%.
(2) Camera Raw Filter: Here's where the fun begins. Go to Filter and click on Camera Raw Filter (you'll need to have the plugin installed for it to show up.) I don't know how the Camera Raw window will look like the first time you open it but good thing you only need to change a couple of things!
If it isn't opened yet click on 'Effects' and we're going to change the Texture and Clarity:
Depending on the scene/show/film I'm giffing, or if I want a stronger or softer sharpening, I'll use two different settings, but 99% of the time they are these:
First setting: Texture (+20) Clarity (+10)
Second setting: Texture (+40) Clarity (+20)
As you can see the difference isn't huge but the first setting gives a "softer" look. As I said I'll use one or the other depending on how I see the scene (it's almost always about the vibes yk.)
Feel free to experiment with these two and see what works best for you (although I wouldn't go higher than 40 on texture because the sharpening will look too fake imo.)
Also this filter is soooo good at making low quality videos look 1080p! Every time I've had to use 720p videos the Camera Raw filter has saved me 🫡
METHOD #2: Smart Sharpen
I use this method for smaller gifs. For example, 8 gifs of 268px x 180px sets (like these) or small-ish gifs in complex sets (like the second gifs in this set.)
This process is much simpler since it's the one I explained before but without adding the Camera Raw filter. That's it that's the method. Just a Smart Sharpen layer with the Opacity turned down to 50%.
As I said this method looks best on smaller gifs but to be honest it looks good on big gifs too? Depends on what you like most!

like I know it's a fictional character in a fictional show and people are entitled to their opinions and it's not that deep and it's just the way of the internet but sometimes the robby hatred is so viscerally fundamentally mean that it's like. idk it makes me so upset. why are we being so mean. why is everyone so mean all the time. and yeah I feel childish for saying that and no I'm not exempt to taking a frustrated tone in posts or being too harsh myself but idk. it just makes me sad.
it's not childish and it's not too deep. michael robinavitch is not real. he's just a character in a multilayered story depicting mental health struggles. but the people who judge/shame that character for those struggles, the ones who make posts blasting him, his behaviour and his symptoms are making posts that real humans who relate to robby will see and read and they know its actually meant for them.

different statements, different views, all steeped in negativity and revolving around the same topic - mental health and a sense of entitlement. robby doesn't read those posts but people struggling with burnout, ptsd, suicide ideation, personality changes, they all read them and if you can't find empathy/sympathy/understanding with a fictional character then how do you possibly understand a real life human with complexities and emotions? i've said it before but imo these type of people are incredibly dangerous around the mentally unwell and the anonymity of the internet makes me fearful to be around people with such stigmatised views and a lack of basic humanity.

I'm thinking about Robby, just back from sabbatical, finally seeing a therapist (based on a recommendation from Javadi, of all people, who has now started emergency mental health work), and being told he should find an active hobby. Well, it's both November and basketball reminds him too much of helping to raise Jake, so when Ahmad and Jesse start talking about their volleyball league, well... Robby is tall and knows how to jump from playing hoops for so many years.
He goes to one practice, decides he loves it, and never looks back. Jack overheard Robby talking about an upcoming club tournament with Jesse during handoff one day, and is shocked. Robby hadn't said anything about picking up a new hobby in all the discussions they've had since Robby got back almost a month ago.
Jack gets the date and time of the next game out of Ahmad in exchange for some juicy betting pool gossip (the Jack, in turn, had gotten out of Parker). He shows up, not really expecting much, and then Robby steps out onto the court and Jack is absolutely mystified by the amount of leg he can see. Like, he knew Robby was tall, taller than Jack, certainly. It was hard to miss, working that closely with somebody for so long. But Jack had never quite realized how long Robby's legs were...
And then Robby goes up for a kill off a set from Mateo (really? Jack thinks, his own people betraying him like this and not telling him about the calves and hamstrings Robby has been hiding under cargo pants) and Jack is GONE. Robby executes the kill neatly, landing with grace before turning around to give Mateo a double high five and a hug to celebrate.
After the match ends (and Robby's team takes the win handily), he walks up to Jack with a smile, shoulders relaxed in a way Jack hasn't seen in ages.
"Hey," Robby says, and Jack feels like he's back in high school trying to talk to Jess for the first time.
"Hey," he answers, lame and hopelessly gone on his best friend.
"You wanna grab dinner to celebrate?" Robby asks, and his eyes say everything Jack is feeling.
"Just us?"
"Just us," Robby answers, reaching out and fisting a hand in the front of Jack's shirt to pull him in for a kiss.
As far as first kisses go, Jack wouldn't have picked to have theirs on the sidelines of a volleyball court in a poorly heated Rec Center two weeks before Christmas, but it's pretty perfect anyway.
Potentially unpopular opinion but this trend to "bookclub" fics in private servers largely ends up excluding the author from a lot of positive reader feedback. It's treating fan creatives like they aren't, y'know, -part- of the fandom community, is what I mean. In my experience it does not actually foster community despite having the outward appearance of doing so.
Like, it's not even about wanting to be showered with praise. It's that this person spent a lot of time making the thing yall are gushing about. Don't you think they, more than anyone, want to chat about it with other people who love it too? Putting them on some weird exclusive pedestal isn't flattering or validating. They're just another fan who wants to talk about The Thing We All Like, Together.
Anyway, I am once again encouraging yall to talk to creatives whose work you enjoy, they don't bite. 💜

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.

Cultural Insights of Our Own: Lessons From a Newly Decoded Digital Archive

Abstract
The recently decoded Internet Archive includes the digital artifact called “Archive of Our Own” (AO3) from early third millennium Earth. AO3 is unusually well backed up and therefore is presumed to contain some of the most significant -- perhaps even sacred -- texts of the time. In this paper we present our preliminary analysis of AO3 metadata, including new insights about the literature, gender and sexuality, religion, and scientific understanding of this historical era:
I. LITERATURE. We describe the cultural centrality of figures such as the Winchesters and Reader. We explore how they featured heavily in every dominant literature genre of the era, including Fluff, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, and Oral Sex.
II. GENDER AND SEXUALITY. We review the overwhelming evidence that male-male relationships were the most culturally significant sexual and romantic relationships, but we also show that it was a culture with an unusually broad set of sexual and gender roles. In particular, we highlight the unusual tripartite conceptualization of gender as including alpha, beta, and omega roles; we note the apparent prejudice against betas, illustrated in the prevalence of “no beta we die like men” and similar protest slogans.
III. RELIGION. We describe a newly discovered religious taboo: doves were a common sacrificial animal of the time, but they were forbidden from being eaten.
IV. SCIENCE. Finally, we present new insight about alternate universes. While previous scholars hypothesized that the scientists of Earth may have developed a correct early theory of the multiverse by the late second millennium, our analysis of AO3 presents evidence to the contrary. As late as the early third millennium, prevailing theories postulated highly specific universes, such as a universe in which everyone is in high school, or a universe contained within a coffee shop.
Taken together, these historical insights show that further investigation is warranted into the valuable documents stored within AO3, perhaps even going beyond the metadata to examine the full texts.
