How I explain aromantism with food:

Say you have your prefered type of sandwich in front of you. It can be your classic pb&j, an all meat, maybe even a veggie, whatever it is it's sitting in front of you on a plate. Now, it's been a while since you ate anything but not to the point you're starving. So you could eat it but you're not really feeling it.

Others around you tell you: "you need to eat the sandwich before it goes bad" or "it's already made so you might as well eat it" or "what if you don't get a chance to eat again until it's too late?" But you still have no desire to eat the sandwich.

Not that the sandwich looks bad or is moldy or anything, you just don't want to eat it. That may change in a few hours but in that moment it's not what you're looking for. Maybe it's just too much food so you grab yourself a small snack to satisfy the small ammount of hunger or boredom.

When others see this they're likely to say: "If you wanted something to eat, why not the sandwich that's already in front of you?" But that still doesn't change the fact that the sandwich just isn't what you want to eat right now. You may never want to eat the sandwich and that perfectly fine. One day, a better sandwich might come along and change your mind but the fact is that at this moment, the sandwich in front of you is just not appetizing.

No one can make you eat the sandwich, and the sandwich might end up eaten by someone else or simply go bad by the time you want it, but that doesn't mean you have to eat the sandwich in fear of others opinions or in fear of it being taken away from you. What you do or don't do with your body and life is your choice and no one can force you into eating a sandwhich you don't want to.

Even if you hear things like: "Everybody's eating sandwiches, so why don't you eat one too?" "Aren't you really hungry without eating the sandwich?" "Why don't you just try it and see if you really don't want it or not?" "It's the perfect opportunity to eat it so just eat it." "Maybe this is the last chance you have to eat a sandwich."

It's okay not to eat it. However, it's not okay to shame someone for not eating it or pressuring them into eating it. They may never want a sandwich ever again and that's okay. You have to accept that not everyone wants or likes sandwiches. And just because you want or like them, doesn't mean that everyone else has to as well.
