What is your view on Helen of Troy?
She might be the most multifaceted character in mythology, every little aspect of her character and story is ever so slightly different depending on the source, and even those little details change her character so much.
Sometimes she chose to marry Menelaus, sometimes she doesn’t. Sometimes she went with Paris willingly, sometimes she’s kidnapped. Sometimes she has a fertility problem and has only one daughter sometimes she doesn’t and has multiple children. Sometimes she loves Paris sometimes she doesn’t. Sometimes she’s a seductress sometimes she isn’t. Sometimes she isn’t even in Troy but in some other place. Even her death myth has so many variations, sometimes she becomes a goddess sometimes she doesn’t. Every time I think I understand her character I learn more and realize I don’t understand her at all.
Helens story will always be told by an unreliable narrator like the school boys talking about the Lisbon sisters
