The significantly higher public awareness of both Black Metal as a subgenre and heavier more serious outfits like Metallica and Iron Maiden has done a real disservice to the general understanding of just how unserious most metal subgenres actually are. You look up any power metal band on Wikipedia and it’s like “MightyElf of the DinoFlame are a Swedish-Italian power metal outfit. Their current members are Sunchaser (real name Fabio Theiri), Nighthruster (real name Karl Karlsson), Nightflyer (real name Lucas Argentino), and Dinoslayer (real name Magnus Kristoff Henriksson). Their albums are generally space operas about alien dinosaurs taking over the moon.”

and their album covers all look vaguely like AI art put through Microsoft word except they’re all much older than the existence of AI art. A person in armor stands in the middle of the frame on a swirly jewel toned background and faces down a dragon, monster, sailing ship, or other large object while the band’s name looms over on the world’s ugliest font

Beloved, I just looked up "MightyElf DinoFlame" and was very disappointed to discover that was just a made-up example and not an actual thing. I wanted to hear an album about alien dinosaurs taking over the moon. :(

And these album covers look like mediocre YA scifi fantasy book covers is what they look like! (I should know I read a LOT of those as a teenager.)
