when youre reading/doing research how do you take notes? im kind of new at that sort of thing and i find that i split my attention between the reading and note taking in a way that kind of makes it hard to focus on either. also how much do you write when it comes to notes?
My strategy:
Skim the entire thing first. The entirety of the pierce might not be relevant to you. Mark down what sections will be useful.
I try to finish a whole paragraph, then check myself for comprehension. Did I understand what I just read? Can I use my own knowledge to arrive at these same conclusions? What are potential problems with the authors argument?
Once I think I got the hang of a section, I'll summarize it with a short sentence. Sometimes this is only 2 words.
I keep extensive track of page numbers. If I hear something interesting, I wanna know where I got it.
This process is methodical and slow. Reading for research is very different from reading for pleasure. Sometimes if I'm listening along in an audio format, I will pause the audio every few seconds to take notes.
its so humiliating to like shapes sometimes. someone will say "what have you up to today." and i have no answer except sending images like this.
and then i have to explain that no actually, ive never dropped acid this is just how i am.

row 2: layout ideas for a hypothetical basketball card game inspired by the resonant orbits of the gallilean moons of jupiter
row 3: byproduct of failed attempt to design a 2d "print-and-play" net of a fair and balanced hypercubic die with 24 faces

Ahh! The wrinkle-faced bat (Centurio senex) might look alarming, but fear not: This critter is a frugivore, meaning fruit is on the menu⦠not blood. Found in Central and South America, this bat prefers to suck the juices from overripe fruits like mangos and soft bananas. Scientists think that the deep folds or āwrinklesā on this batās face help channel extra juice to its mouth while it feeds! This small species only grows up to 2.76 in (7 cm) long. Males, who typically have more folds than females, also have scent glands in their āwrinkles.ā
