I recently saw a year-old post remarking that the opening bars of "Holding Out For a Hero" kind of sound like Touhou music, and it occurred to me that both the Touhou series and Jim Steinman's body of work are situated in liminal spaces characterised by a sort of perpetual adolescence, but, like, in diametrically opposite directions.
I was about to make a joke about a milieu swap AU that casts Marisa Kirisame as a a thirtysomething dirtbag who peaked in high school trapped in a spiral of self-destructive nostalgia for a version of the 1980s that never happened, and also she has a really cool motorcycle, but then I realised that this would be unironically be peak fiction.
