But it's wild how that's just the standard way people talk sometimes? Like you'd think the word for "I" was "moi je".
I just moved to Paris a couple months ago and can confirm: everything French people do and say is silly :)

one of the most frustrating things about getting a job is that after you go through the absolute hellscape that is applying and interviewing and you finally prove yourself worthy of having employment, you'll end up in the workforce and realise that 90% of the people with jobs are not actually very good at them. so like why was all of that even so hard
"Racialised" is much better than PoC but I've been leaning a lot on the concept of racial markedness. Because that allows us to make statements like "the name Jamal is racially marked in USA". Rather than saying something like "Jamal is a PoC name", a nonsense statement, saying it's racially marked in USA allows us to contrast with societies like Albania or the Arab countries where the name Jamal is ordinary, thus unmarked.
It's a concept I've kind of imported from linguistic analysis; saying a speech pattern is more or less marked does not really allow us to avoid the subject of who's doing the marking. A statement like "womens' speech is more marked in Lakota" necessitates that we understand that it's the Lakota who are marking womens' speech. A foreigner can't tell the difference and probably doesn't understand why it would thus be weird to see a man using speech patterns associated with women, in the same way an Albanian wouldn't understand why USA people would think Jamal is a Black name.
You! You get it. In my view, if someone is saying "racialised" or "racially marked" without acknowledgement of context, they are doing it in a way that is gramatically incorrect.
Ok but also, one of the reasons I dislike the term racialised (in some contexts) is that folks will use it to describe everyone but white people and I'm like no!! They have a race, too! Thats where "race" came from!!!! It's not as though they are some invisible exception category 😤
If you think race is something that somebody, let alone everybody, "has", then you just disagree with the post entirely. Being white is absolutely freedom from racial marking. The second you're racially marked, it takes away your whiteness.

Yesterday afternoon, my phone lit up with two different robo-texts begging me to donate to the campaign of Janet Mills, current Governor of Maine who just announced that she's running for Senate. Mills— a moderate Democrat who in her late 70s would be the oldest ever first-term Senator in US history— is getting official backing from the Democratic Party establishment. This gives her campaign access to the party's list of small donors in previous elections, including my phone number and millions of others.
Mills is running in the primary against Graham Platner, a left-populist outsider candidate and former Marine and oysterman.
A strong public speaker and fundraiser who is 36 years younger than his opponent, Platner is running on a progressive platform that includes Medicare for All, ending mass deportations, defending public schools, progressive tax reform, abortion rights, ending the War on Drugs, environmental protections, raising the minimum wage, and "no more pointless wars." He is endorsed by the United Auto Workers and other unions, describes the assault on Gaza as a genocide, and has criticized "Democrats trying to pander to what they think Trump voters want by peddling soft bigotry" on LGBTQ issues.
The only polling we have so far is a small poll commissioned by a progressive group (More Perfect Union), but it found Platner beating incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins by more than Governor Mills (a 14 point lead vs. an 8 point lead). The progressive candidate is also the more electable one in this primary.
