Batman Accent Headcanons:
Since Gotham is located in South Jersey, its residents speak with varying amounts of South Jersey accent. Bruce and Tim have the softest accents, though Bruce falls into it more as Batman. Steph, Jason, and Duke have the heaviest accents.
Dick really only has a South Jersey/Gotham accent for words and terms that he learned after being taken in by Bruce, since he spent his formative language years in a traveling circus learning to speak from all kinds of people with all kinds of accents! (And learning all kinds of languages too, from the well-known Spanish and French to an obscure dialect only spoken in northern Slovakia because that’s where the fire eater came from).
Ra’s al Ghul speaks English with an impeccable British accent, since he first learned English from the British. Heck, he was born before modern English even came around. It’s impressive that he’s not still speaking in iambic pentameter, because he first learned English in the 1500s and enjoyed the original performance of Shakespeare’s plays.
Talia normally speaks with a British accent like her father, but she can do a perfect generic American accent when needed. However, she is terrible at doing a Southern drawl. She found this out the hard way during a League mission in Alabama.
Damian speaks kind of like Mr. Moseby from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. You know, he sounds kinda British, but not actually? Like that.
Cass speaks with a general South Jersey/Gotham accent, because that’s where she learned to speak, but mixed in there is the slightest lilt of an accent that no one can place. This is not a foreign accent. It’s simply because words feel foreign in her mouth, so she forms sounds slightly differently than everyone else.
Obviously Alfred speaks the Queen’s English.
Everyone in the Batfam (except Alfred and Damian) pronounces “water” like “wudder/wooder.” The first time Dick offered Damian a glass of “wudder” Damian was confused and thought it was some kind of poison (which, to be fair, is par for the course in Gotham).
Reblogging with these great additions from @theflopwonder that I felt shouldn't just be tags.
