Okay, you guys remember this convo from the Sick Sakura mini arc
And I know I've brought this up before, my main thought was "And you, do you know how to use a phone Suo?”
And mixing this with the fact Suo never lets anyone see his phone or the way he always seems to respond to everyone but never initiates conversations himself, why I got was:
Suo does know how to use a phone but only from the receiver side, he's the one getting the call and he knows how to answer when someone uses the phone, but he probably doesn't know how to use the phone to make the call himself...
In other words, Suo is always willing to help everyone, he does his best to help, but he does not know how to ask for help, let alone let himself be helped.
When Nirei actually confronted him, when he told him to quit smiling, he took away one of Suo's masks, he overstepped that imaginary boundary Suo has, where his words are never questioned, suddenly Nirei is asking for reasons, reasons that Suo can't talk about without exposing himself, without becoming vulnerable...
For people who were parentified or had to assume too much responsibility too young, the sole act of showing the slight vulnerability feels like the world is going to crumble and you'll fall apart.
There's a fear of being told that you can handle it so it doesn't matter.
A fear of coming undone.
A fear of being told you're faking now because you always look so well put together...
Once again, Sakura is scared of vulnerability because he's been hurt before, cast aside, so once he started seeing that nobody was going to hurt him, to cast him aside, he started trusting people more
On the other side, the more people opened themselves up, Suo kept closing himself, a very delicate balance he kept to be able to help others open up without having to let himself be vulnerable.
At Bankoku-Gai, I feel nobody questions him because he is a figure of stability and protection, nobody ever questions his vulnerability, nobody expects him to open up...
Suo has essentially isolated himself from the world in a very particular way, unable to break away from his figure of officer or helpful friend, and that's such a lonely and tiring experience...
Also, "that also applies to friendship, I think" told me that Suo has never had friends before, or people he considered friends before, of course he doesn't know how to use that. Suo has the kids at the dojo that he's responsible for, the ones who come from outside that he feeds and pays attention to, his kyodai that he respects but he's still their superior and likely no one else, because I still think his master is dead.
All Suo has is people he has to care for or pretend for...
Which makes this panel much more compelling, because Suo clearly holds a lot of empathy and understanding for people, but doesn't include himself there. Only further proving that he definitely thinks he's not allowed vulnerability, of course he has fears, maybe more and bigger than the others, but he can't share them.
So, clearly, when Nirei said this, he probably felt fear at the possibility of any vulnerability being exposed.
He makes me ill, my son who has too much on his shoulders and won't let himself be vulnerable at all, won't let himself ask for help
I have to give a two hour tour in a forest for school in about 3 hours and i'm stressing tf out, but have some Sugishita panels and some of my thoughts surrounding him during last chapter, aswell as what i think might happen next chapter and if there's something happening between him and Suo.
I will say i've never posted something like this before.
Last chapter we had a lot of focus on Sugishita (which i love) and the whole time he looks lost in his thoughts. It could be because he's worried for Sakura, but maybe him and Suo had a talk before (or Suo told him another half lie/cryptic message) and he's starting to connect the dots and is pondering on what to do.
This panel could back up that idea. Here Suo connected the dots that Sugishita and Nirei talked, responding that he also wishes to talk a lot with Sugishita. I feel like IF Suo told anyone anything, it would maybe be Sugishita.
The left panel is when Sugi and the other found out that Suo is an officer of the red Chanpuru. He looks surprised but not as shocked as the other characters imo.
The right panel is from this weeks chapter, it takes place after Sakura leaves the school. I find his expression the most interesting compared to the others, there also a reason why We're focusing on his face. I'm not sure who his emotions are directed to, it could be Sakura but also Suo. If Suo really did tell him something, he might be connecting the dots here.
If he really did figure out what Suo meant/told him he might want to join Nirei and Momijikawa to tell Sakura not to give up on Suo and/or what Suo told him.
I do think that we'll see Sugishita's character growth next chapter. Nii-sensei definitely cooked with this trio. At this moment they're probably the best people to talk with Sakura and help him progress the situation (if he hasn't left on his own that is)
But yeah, those were a few of my thoughts. I would've loved to go more in depth but English isn't my first language and long rants like this can still be a bit tricky sometimes
Wind breaker already had me feeling emotional from todays chapter and then Gachiakuta decided to make my other son suffer even more.
Give my babies a break😭
I'm so curious about what's going to happen in todays chapter...
Guessing by 217's ending we're probably going to see the continuation of what happened on the rooftop, of not we will most likely see the day after. But we're going to switch back to Furin/Sakura's pov
new hair new life

Started drawing this 2 days ago. It seemed quite fitting with the recent chapter, especially with that ending
I'm not used to drawing digital so this was good practice for me
There's so many things about this panel
The affectionate "Sunfei-Nii", the referral as sir as well. Him praising the kids for training hard.
The way they said when they're 15 they'll also get to support Red Chanpuru, Suo's smile looks strained, because of course he's 15 and an officer and likely joined younger and whatever is up with Red Chanpuru it doesn't look like he's too excited for the kids to join
"don't forget to study, too!" How ironic from someone who just had to drop out of highschool.
Oh sweet boy, I know you had to grow up too fast and we're never really allowed to be a child, we're going to bawl during this arc.
I like guys that are pretty like girls …
As per heavy request, I present John in drag for @stewed-blog
Also still working on brothers posting but that thing is going absolutely amazing when I manage to somehow wreck my own theories before I've even fully written them down
Like case in point, don't think I didn't notice this guy wearing the same tassels as Suo
And at first I thought it would signal them being the disciplines of the same master (and how cute would that be) but then I was looking up an unfamiliar term I saw in a fanfic and ended up neck deep reading about Chinese symbols (again)
And I think I found out what Suo's earrings mean. And I'm not okay with this info
*deep sigh*
"Coral (珊瑚, shān hú) symbolises longevity and promotions in rank
Coral was historically thought to be an underwater "iron tree" (鐵樹, tiě shù) that blossomed once per century. Red coral is believed to be auspicious for its colour. Coral buttons were worn on the hats of government officials. Coral resembles deer antlers, and deer are associated with longevity. Coral is considered to be one of the Eight Treasures."
And as for the second white bead in his earrings? I always kinda thought it might be a pearl but now I'm more or less convinced it is
"Pearl (宝珠, bǎo zhū) symbolises endless transformation; perfection and enlightenment (when chased by a dragon); wealth, treasure, pure intentions, and genius in obscurity
Chinese dragons are often depicted as chasing a pearl-like jewel object. The pearl also resembles the moon, and as a dragon devours or disgorges the moon, it appears to wane or wax. The flaming pearl is one of the Eight Treasures."
Throwback to that scene of Suo admiring the moon (which could represent Furin)
I also looked up what the tassels mean. And apparently yellow/golden tassels symbolise authority. So Suo's earrings could literally be - and likely are - his rank insignia as a Red Chanpuru officer
(Also take note how the other guy I pointed out appears to have two larger coral beads in his tassels so would that mean his rank is higher than Suo's? Unless the meeting they're headed to next that Suo appears to be dreading is another promotion. Imagine if we see him next time with two red coral beads in his earrings)
Now I understand what Nii-sensei meant by saying Suo's arc is a trump card. It's been in front of us the whole time. Nii-sensei planned this from the beginning
Anyway, I'm gonna go bash my face into a wall
